Village Doctor's Women-Chapter 113 - 108 Don’t move, be good
"A solution?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
"Let me think..."
His master, Xu Changqing, had once been the Temple Master of a Daoist temple. He later left due to certain events, becoming a free-spirited wanderer. Wang Jian knew his master was one of the country’s early scholars and that becoming a Taoist had been purely a coincidence; he was the type of man who possessed extensive knowledge, both ancient and modern. Even so, Wang Jian had no idea where Xu Changqing had learned his Medical Skills. Nor did he know the origin of the numerous precious ancient books in his possession, which were filled with ancient medicine and various rare Medical Records, all worthy of being displayed in a museum. The first time Wang Jian saw these things, he even wondered if his master had stolen the entire legacy of some prominent medical family.
In any case, even after following his master for so many years, Wang Jian still found him incredibly mysterious. While he hadn’t quite reached the point of appearing and disappearing without a trace, he was close. When Xu Changqing left, he only provided a phone number, leaving no address or other information. The only way for Wang Jian to contact him was to call that number, which led to the current scene.
The clatter of mahjong tiles on the other end of the line was rather jarring. Never mind Cai Qiong, even Wang Jian felt the "reclusive expert" persona he had helped his master build was crumbling.
Xu Changqing hummed and hawed for a moment. "I don’t have a good solution, but I have a crude one. Want to hear it?"
"Yes, yes, of course!"
Of course, he wanted to hear it. Wang Jian hadn’t found any preventive measures in the ancient books, which was why he decided to contact his master. If he couldn’t figure it out, surely his master could.
"Alright." Xu Changqing pondered for a moment before speaking. "Actually, prevention is simple: eat clean, live in a clean environment, and stay away from danger."
"I know that," Wang Jian said with a wry smile, "but you can’t guard against those who are determined to cause harm."
This little rascal... talking as if he has a solution.
Xu Changqing was genuinely stumped. Wang Jian’s talent was astonishing, and Xu Changqing had long since taught him everything he knew. The real reason he’d only taught Wang Jian for a few years before running off was that Wang Jian learned too quickly. Xu Changqing had felt out of his depth, afraid that his illustrious image would shatter once he had nothing left to teach.
What he didn’t realize was that in his beloved disciple’s heart, he barely had an illustrious image to begin with.
The truth was just as Xu Changqing had suspected. Ever since he had slipped away, Wang Jian had hardly encountered any problems, so the phone number he left behind was rarely used. Wang Jian wouldn’t seek him out unless he ran into a truly difficult situation.
But he had never encountered Gu Technique either, so he had no practical experience to share. Xu Changqing thought for a moment; he couldn’t just suggest something as unreliable as metaphysics.
"If all else fails, just find the person who cast the Gu... Ugh, forget it. You’re a doctor; don’t get involved. This matter probably isn’t that simple." Though far away, Xu Changqing knew from the ancient texts just how formidable Gu Technique could be. He said directly, "Stay out of this. I’ll find someone to help you. Just wait patiently; they should be there in two hours at the most."
"Alright, I’ll listen to you, Master," Xu Changqing instructed. "That Gu Poison isn’t easy to defend against, so you and the people around you need to be careful. Wait until the person I’m sending arrives, and then we’ll figure out what to do next. In this day and age, anyone who dares to spread Gu around like this will be taught a lesson. You can rest assured."
"Master, you’re not setting me up again, are you?" Wang Jian raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean ’again’? When have I ever set you up? That’s nonsense."
"The last time you said something like this, I woke up the next day abandoned in the mountains."
"..."
Xu Changqing knew Wang Jian had never forgotten that incident, but he hadn’t expected him to bring it up now. That little rascal! I only sent him to the mountains to toughen him up. After all, physical fitness is very important for a doctor these days.
Naturally, Xu Changqing didn’t dwell on the topic. Instead, he asked directly, "Your hometown is Shanghai City, right?"
Wang Jian nodded, then remembered that Xu Changqing couldn’t see him and spoke aloud, "That’s right."
"Great. I happen to have a friend there. Rest assured, this kind of thing that causes public panic is best left to professionals. You just stay put."
After saying that, he simply asked for Wang Jian’s current location and told him to wait there, not giving him a chance to ask any more questions. Less than ten minutes later, Wang Jian received a message from Xu Changqing telling him to wait for an hour.
After Wang Jian hung up, the two sat in silence for a moment before Cai Qiong finally spoke. "Your master... is certainly interesting."
Wang Jian responded with a bitter smile. "Is he very different from what you imagined?"
Cai Qiong smiled but said nothing. Indeed, he was. Whether from Wang Jian’s descriptions or the information the Cai Family had gathered, the image was always of a mysterious old Taoist, a figure detached from the mundane world. Yet the voice on the phone was clearly that of an ordinary old man you’d find at home. And judging by their conversation, this old man seemed to be quite young at heart.
So, Cai Qiong added, "He sounds very spirited."
"Hahaha." Wang Jian laughed out loud at the description. He knew Cai Qiong was trying to be diplomatic, but it didn’t matter. His master was indeed extraordinary, not some common man. This persona was what truly suited him; after all, very few people in this world could truly unify their knowledge with their actions. "Let’s just wait here. Since my master said someone is coming to help, they can definitely solve this. All we have to do is wait."
Wang Jian completely relaxed. With his master taking charge, he was happy to let go of the problem, ready to just sit back and see what happened.
Cai Qiong asked curiously, "Who is it?"
"I have no idea." Wang Jian leaned back on the sofa, his earlier worries gone. "Let’s just wait."
Cai Qiong frowned slightly, puzzled by how completely at ease Wang Jian had become. Even the Cai Family, a prominent name in the country, was helpless in the face of such things. Although Wang Jian possessed exceptional Medical Skills and his master was special, what could they do? The power of a single individual was nothing compared to that of a large organization.
So, Cai Qiong had already begun considering other options. She wondered if there were special measures they could take, like calling the police... However, Gao Yang’s background in Shanghai City was formidable. A previous police operation had failed to capture him and his crew, which was precisely why the Cai Family was so cautious about their raw materials business.
Cai Qiong dismissed the idea of calling the police. Soon, another thought occurred to her: why not report it to the higher-ups? If the local authorities couldn’t handle it, wouldn’t intervention from the outside be the perfect way to break the stalemate?
As she considered this, her eyes lit up. Just as she was about to go find Cai Wenji, Wang Jian grabbed her hand.
"Wait a moment."
"Sit down here."
Wang Jian patted the empty space beside him and looked at Cai Qiong. "Right here. Be good."
Seeing that she didn’t move, Wang Jian patted the seat twice more.
Cai Qiong tilted her head in confusion and glanced upstairs but eventually sat down. It’s not like I sat down just because his tone was so forceful... The thought made her face grow warm.
"What is it?" Cai Qiong asked quietly. "Why did you suddenly tell me to sit down?"
Wang Jian didn’t reply, simply placing his hand high up on her thigh, very close to the top. She was wearing a short skirt today, leaving most of her legs exposed.
Too close.
Cai Qiong shuddered. If it had been anyone else, she might have stood up and stomped her high heel into his crotch. What on earth is he doing?! The feeling was bizarre. Her body instinctively resisted, yet her heart was a tangled mess of confusion and, strangely, anticipation for what he would do next. It was a very peculiar psychological shift.
"What are you doing?" Cai Qiong asked in a low voice.
She received no reply. Then, she felt his hand begin to move, applying enough force to pinch her skin. Cai Qiong instinctively shifted away, but to her surprise, Wang Jian immediately said, "Don’t move."
Fortunately, his hand was moving downward, and Cai Qiong let out a small sigh of relief. Then she noticed his expression was completely serious; this clearly wasn’t the attitude of someone trying to take advantage of her. Even if Cai Qiong were clueless, she would know by now that something was wrong.
