Unscented-Chapter 1203 - 1145 He’s Back
Melissa stayed with the kids. Murray had gone to see the doctor.
He must have wanted to discuss how to make the treatment faster and discharged them. He didn’t really like staying in the hospital.
Melissa was about dozing off when the kids started crying. She wanted to stop but she couldn’t. She left for the doctor’s office immediately.
"They are crying!" she breathed heavily.
"Sit down, ma’am" the doctor said calmly. He was trying to make her calm.
"I am talking to the doctor how to make the kids heal faster" Murray revealed.
"That’s true. He said he wanted a quick recovery so you can all go home. And the news you have brought just now. It means that might be possible" the doctor seemed to be mistaking.
"News? They are crying, both of them" Melissa repeated to correct the doctor.
"Yes it is good. That’s a sign that the lungs are getting back in shape" he chuckled.
"That’s why they are crying?" Murray couldn’t believe it.
"Yes. And about what we have been discussing earlier. By the end of this week, they will be discharged" he announced to them.
"Thanks doc" Murray scoffed.
"But there are conditions" the doctor continued.
"What condition?" Murray and Melissa asked at the same time
"Mr Murray. You will need to prove that these children will be adequately taken care of" the doctor narrated.
"Of course, we are the parents. We do not care about anything except their lives" Murray boasted.
"Really?" the doctor asked sarcastically. "But this is the first day I see you here. You should have been here like a week ago" the doctor berated him.
Melissa looked away. She believed the doctor was right to question his love for money and family.
"I was hooked up somewhere and the most important thing is I am here right now" he asserted.
"That’s good, the children will be discharged to you when they are medically ready anyway. We don’t keep patients once they should be discharged" the doctor concluded.
Melissa and Murray left and went back to the ward. The children were still crying but as the doctor had told them not to worry.
"We still need to try and stop them for crying" Murray moved to the bedside. He held his child’s hand and rubbed with the other.
"Da-da" the baby stuttered trying to call him. He stopped crying and kept quiet.
"Baby, I’m sorry" he sobbed.
"He is happy to see you. Do you know how much he has missed you?" Melissa sighed.
The baby was now gentle. He was starting to sleep but the other one was still crying.
He walked to his side and held his hand too, rubbing him like he did to the other one.
"My baby, I am sorry" he whispered.
"That’s good" the doctor said suddenly. He must have been standing at the door for some time. "I have never seen them so calm" he gasped.
"They are always like that with their father" Melissa said quietly.
"You should have been here before now. I am very sure their healing would have been rapid, faster than this" the doctor nodded.
"I really regret not being here. They might have not caught the fever to start with and they won’t have lung inflammation" he said remorsefully.
"With what I’m seeing, I will discharge them soon. Their health will be better with you around" the doctor said to Murray. "Once the main treatment had been administered. The rest is follow up and can be done by both of you" he advised.
"Thank you doctor" Murray said happily.
"But I’m still not sure that you will be staying close to them. If you can leave them here for over a week without checking them, you won’t bother taking care of them" the doctor seemed to be doubting him.
"I love my kids more than everything. Taking care of them is my hobby. I don’t see as a burden" he clarified.
"But they were here for over a week and you didn’t call to ask about them" the doctor pointed out.
"Like I said, I was on a business trip. Then my phone got lost. My wife can testify to it. I am a responsible husband. There was a time when she was sick. I did everything by myself without complaining" he said and turned to Melissa.
Melissa simply nodded to ascertain the fact.
"I’m only saying this, because your attention means a lot to this kid. You should have known that before now" the doctor relayed.
"They are used to me. I promise to take care of them properly" he assured the doctor.
"Ma’am, you the mother of these kids. Everything that your husband said, is that the truth? Staying here will be more better if he won’t assist you in taking care of them" the doctor warned again.
"He always look after us" Melissa professed
"Then, I will be preparing them for the discharge" the doctor said and left the ward.
Melissa kept staring at Murray. She was trying to forgive him for not being around but whenever she tried that. Her experience in these past days with the kids, their cries of pain would fill her mind.
"I know you are still angry. I’m sorry" he apologized again. "I lost my phone, you know I can’t just stay out of touch without a good reason" he pleaded. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"You did not do well" Melissa let out. "When you lost your phone, you could have just gotten another phone and try to reach me or your father but you didn’t do any of that" she shook her head.
"That’s a mistake on my part. That’s why I promise to make it up to you. And I also promise never to embark on such trip to remote area unless I’m well prepared for it" he kept making promises.
"The problem I’m having now, is I can’t stop blaming myself. If I had been with the kids or you were with them. We would have avoided all these" she breathed heavily.
"That’s true, I’m full of regrets" Murray sighed.
"We made the mistakes but they are the ones suffering" she bursted into tears.
Murray held her and cuddled her.
