Noticing that Tom was panting heavily,Harley’s face clouded in anger.

"What are you doing here?Nina doesn’t request your presence"Harley muttered rudely.He moved hastily blocking the way to the ward.

"Besides,is True your daughter?,You shouldn’t be concerned about her!"Harley voiced his hostility to Tom without remorse.He opened the door to the ward and walked in.Turning around he realized that Tom had followed him in shamelessly.

Harley glared at Tom,with disdain he warned,

"Please respect yourself.Don’t bother Nina,if you get her upset,I wouldn’t mind punching you in the face!"

"In your dreams!"Tom wasn’t so calm.Realizing that Harley was trying to stop him,he pushed him away with a sneer.

"Are you trying to get in by force?,Get the hell out of here!"Harley grabbed Tom by the collar as he tried entering the ward.He landed a hard punch on his back and pushed him away.

Tom wasn’t weakened by the punch.He suddenly accelerated like a football player.

The two scuffle relentlessly untill a nurse halted their drama,urging them not to fight in the hospital.

Neither of them made a move,they just shot eye lasers at each other.

"Nina just lost her parents.She’s yet to recover from the trauma and grief.Can you please not disturb her for the time being?"Harley stated trying his best to suppress his choler.

Tom straightened his collar,moved closer to Harley and muttered viciously,

"Aren’t you also disturbing her?,If you can comfort her,why can’t I?"

Their banter agitated Nina,she came out of the ward slowly,using her right hand to wipe her tears,when she had reached them,she muttered.

"Stop the argument.I need neither of you to stay with me,you both should leave..."

Tom and Harley stared coldly at each other before walking away from the ward into the hallway.Nina let out a sigh,her mind wandered to her daughter,she just wanted to hold her so badly,especially after losing her parents.

The bang from the ward door indicated that Nina had gone back in.Tom suspired heavily.

Sadness was spelt all over Harley’s face.He knew that no one else could console Nina except them,Thus he realized that their petty conflict was totally unnecessary at the moment.

Although the incident couldn’t be reversed and the people couldn’t be revived,Harley was still concerned about Nina and hoped that she would come to terms with reality soon.

"It’s meaningless for us to wrangle with each other"Tom broke the silence.His tone was not as fierce as before.He stared at Harley calmly and added,

"Nina just said that she doesn’t require our company,but we can’t leaver her alone,not now,she needs us."

Notwithstanding the obvious fact that the two were rivals,Harley just could’nt agree less to what Tom said.

Harley fixed his look on Tom,with contempt he asked,

"What do you want?"

"Fair distribution!"Tom stated,he shrugged his shoulders,and added.

"I can’t drive you away,and you can’t drive me away either.Since we’re both here to take care of Nina,why don’t we allocate the time?"

Harley saw some iota of sense in what Tom proposed,he nodded in acceptance of the deal and said,

"I’ll look after her during the daytime"He realized he could use his free time at night to write some books.

Now that Nina’s parents were gone,he had to take up the responsibility of taking care of Nina and True.

"I’ll look after her in the night,that’s a deal!"Tom agreed and stretched out his hand for a shake,Harley stared coldly at his hand,he ignored Tom’s hand as he moved into the ward.He meet Nina and True,he bade them farewell and left the hospital for Tom to begin his shift.

The footsteps in the corridor gradually faded away.Seeing that Harley had finally exited the building,Tom hurried to the ward.

Moving inside the ward,Tom saw Nina lying wearily on the bed,he desperately wanted to give her a hug,but he restrained his self.He tried speaking but the words couldn’t form in his mouth,he summoned up courage and muttered,

"Nina,I’m so sorry."

"Thank you.You can go home now and get some rest"Nina answered absentmindedly.She had exhausted all the strength left in her,hence she needed to rest.

"If you need anything,I’m in the waiting room"Tom muttered before walking out of the ward.

Nina was not in the right frame of mind to care about Tom.Her parents accidental death broke her severely.

This night was the longest she had ever witnessed in the last twenty years of her stay on earth.

The bright moon finally disappear making the night come to a halt.Before seven o’clock,Harley arrived the hospital to take up his shift.

From this day onwards,Harley and Tom tooks turns in looking after Nina.They didn’t converse much each time they met,but they tacitly kept to their end of the bargain.

Two days after the fire incident,Nina’s condition seemed to improve.The realization that she had a daughter to look after made her stronger.

In the evening,Harley was helping Nina feed True some milk.Suddenly,he heard that Tom was on his way to the ward.

"Nina,during this two nights,did Tom do anything to you?"He asked concernedly.

Nina was leaning against the window viewing the sun set,she knew that Harley’s question was from a place of jealousy,she scoffed and asked.

"What do you think he’ll do to me?"

"I’m sorry for asking okay?,I just wanna make sure he’s not making you sad"Harley explained awkwardly.He was just too sensitive when it comes to Tom.

Lying on the bed,True kicked her little legs excitedly.She was so carefree,and not aware that her grandparents had just passed away. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Harley stared at his innocent daughter and emergently wanted discussing with Nina about her future.

But before Harley could utter his thoughts,he heard quick footsteps on the hallway.He instantly knew it was Tom who had come to take up his shift.

A knock was heard on the door of the ward.Harley went to open it.There stood Tom with a bouquet of flowers in his hands.

Harley was disgusted at Tom’s thought of present,he stopped him and muttered sarcastically,

"Are you bunkers to buy flowers now huh?,You wanna confess your feelings to her or declare your love for her?"

Tom’s face clouded in anger on hearing Harley’s words.

"I just want to cheer her up"He explained coldly.

Harley raised his eyebrows and added,

"I’m certain Nina will be upset when she sees your flowers."

Harley stared at the outer packing paper of the flowers,as well as the carnations and Magnolia with a more disdainful expression on his face.

"Why are you purchasing cheap things,ain’t you aware that Nina doesn’t like cheap and low-quality things?"Harley muttered irritatingly.

Tom didn’t utter a word in response.He looked down at the bouquet of flower in his hand and suddenly felt self abased.
