In present time,Lily still depended on Tom to fund her bills,She shared a rented apartment with him as well.

Upon meeting Tom,Lily hasn’t picked up any job,but Tom has been employed within a month.

He worked energetically and relentlessly each day till midnight.

After the hectic day at work,Tom boarded a bus home,he leaned against the glass tiredly,as he took a nap.

His exhaustion from work made him oblivious to certain important things,his phone inclusive.

An hour later,Tom arrived at his rented apartment,the moment he stepped in,he spotted Lily heading towards him with a smile.

"Why’s your hair so messy,huh?,ain’t you worried that your colleagues will make jest of you?"She teased,while taking off his coat as a virtuous wife would.

However,Tom wasn’t in the right frame of mind to chit chat with her.He replied wearily,"it doesn’t matter,all that matter is that I’m being paid when due"

He stretched himself and sat down on the simple and cheap pink sofa.Lily stared at his tired face,she sat gently beside him and thoughtfully said,"don’t you think you’re overworking yourself?,You won’t be able to earn money if you fall sick,it’s good to take some rest when due.."

"Do you think I don’t realize that?"Tom shook his head and smiled bitterly,"My boss specifically instructed the employees to work relentlessly until the day’s task was completed,hence we had to work overtime."

Tom lowered his head and touched his grumbling stomach.He looked up at Lily and with a smile he asked"did you help make me dinner?,I’m really famished"

The relationship between the two were like that of friends or couples.Although they lived under the same roof,they both slept in separate rooms.Tom fully respected their boundaries.

On the other hand,Lily was diligent.As long as she was home,she would take care of all the housework,wash her clothes and his,and prepare him breakfast each day.

Although Tom thought that it was out of indebtedness that Lily did all those,but Lily on the other hand just viewed themselves as an unmarried couple.

"I prepared supper already,I was only waiting for you to return home"Lily replied gently.She stood from the sofa,walked into the kitchen,grabbed a warm bowl filled with food,and headed back to meet Tom.

Tom leaned against the sofa lazily,he reached out for his phone which was in his pocket,he swiped it open and was about to check the news of the day.

"I can’t believe I’m unaware of the happening in my society due to work"he muttered as he swiped through the voluminous news.

Lily walked in with the bowl of food,Tom reddish lips cracked in a delightful smile."Thank you Lily"He said as he sat upright.Lily placed the food on the center table.

"Come back early tomorrow,so we can go to the market together okay?"She requested with a smile as she sat back besides him.

"If my boss let us go on time,I’ll sure be back before seven"Tom agreed without hesitation.He opened the bowl,it was a meal of pasta and fried chicken,his favorite.He begun eating with his right hand,while his left hand handled his phone.He opened a website and was struck by the title.

"There was a fire outbreak in the community tonight,an electric car got burned"Tom read out with a frown.

"I keep emphasizing that those cars ain’t safe,I rather take a bus than buy one"

Lily’s face changed abruptly,it seemed that Tom wasn’t aware of whom the victims were.

"If only he knew that Nina’s family were the victims,I’m pretty sure he’ll rush to the hospital immediately."Lily thought.In order for Tom not to realize that Nina was the victim,Lily quickly changed the topic.

"By the way,Tom,I saw a nice shirt today.Can I purchase it for you later?"Lily grabbed her phone which laid on the center table,she opened a shopping website in an attempt to capture Tom’s attention.

However,Tom wasn’t a fan of clothes.He politely decline saying,

"No,thanks,I have enough clothings"

"It’s a gift Tom.Do you like it?"Lily acted coquettishly and showed him the picture on the phone.

Tom paused his chewing and took a glance,he found the colour a little bumpkinly.He shook his head,indicating her not to place an order.

"If you’re feeling sleepy,you can retire to bed.I’ll hit the hay after reading the news."

Tom felt chagrined that Lily had to wait up each night for him to return from work,hence the reason he urged her to go bed.

Lily noticed that Tom’s eyes were still fixed on the fire incident,she thought of another way of distracting him.

"Tom,I bought a kilo of beef today,I think they sold an old meat to me,can you help me smell it,to decipher if it’s still new or not?"She muttered with squinting eyes,while trying to pull him to the fridge.

Noticing that she was a bit talkative today,Tom felt it was weird,but still walked to the fridge with her.

He opened the fridge and perceived the meat,"The meat’s still fresh and without odour,so worry less"He said as he walked back to the sofa.

Lily hadn’t even purchase the meat that day,she just didn’t want him watching the news.

After a while,Tom gobbled up the food,with a grin he said,"Lily,thank you so much for making out time to prepare this meal for me.I’ll go get a shower now.

He stood up and headed to the bathroom with his phone.Lily was anxious,she had tried her best to prevent him from focusing on the news,but now that he went into the bathroom with it,she couldn’t follow him in.

Lily stood in front of the bathroom door,listening to Tom’s reaction from time to time.

Tom was sitting on the toilet.He turned on the phone again.This time,he was watching a short video from a website.His fingers slide a few times on the screen,and he happened to see the scene of the fire.

Upon staring at the house for a few seconds,Tom noticed that the neighborhood looked quite familiar.He spotted a familiar figure lying unconscious on the ground.

"Nina?It’s her house that’s on fire!"Tom was appalled.He rushed out of the toilet without washing his hands.

Seeing Tom ran out in a hurry,Lily caught up with him and asked,"Tom,where are you going?"

"Nina’s house caught fire,I have to go to the hospital!"Tom replied quickly and ran out of the house.

She knew he would react this way!

"Don’t go out so late.You have to turn up at work tomorrow morning!"Lily stated chasing after him,she didn’t want Tom seeing Nina.Unfortunately,Lily couldn’t deter him at all.

Tom arrived at the hospital in a hurry,he inquired from the nurses about Nina,he was told she was in a ward.He sighted Harley walking in the hallway with a bucket of hot water.

Without hesitation,he approached him and asked anxiously,with his heart pounding heavily,

"How’s Nina?,Is she burned?,Is True okay?"

Tom was the perfect definition of’Love me,Love my dog’Although True wasn’t his daughter,he wanted no harm reaching the child.
