[Words of a Guardian|conditional|{Primordial}]

I paused where I stood.

"Great. Let’s get going then." Said Marcus as he grunted, cracking his waist. "Duz?"

I ignored him, staring at the screen hovering in front of me.

"Dustin?" Jerry called.

"Is he zoning out again?" Asked Markus.

"I think so. It’s really annoying."

[Tap to see description.]

Go ahead.

[The words of a Primordial Guardian carry power in the Guardian’s designated universe. Fate and the universe itself bend to the will of a Guardian’s words.]

[Conditional Skill: The condition for this skill’s activation is unknown. However, having more mana increases the chance of skill activation. With that said, please, Young Guardian, be careful what you wish for.]

My eyes widened.

Oh my word.

This... this explains it all.

This explains every–

But wait. When I made that ’wish’ before I died, I wasn’t yet the primordial guardian. Even when I was ’lying’ just a few minutes ago.

Was I already designated to become a primordial guardian? Or did the fact that Olephus once dwelt in my soul make me recognizable as a Guardian?

More. Fucking. Questions.

I narrowed my eyes.

Both the wish for the world’s end when I was dying in the alley and the lie I told a few minutes ago, what did they have in common?

A clue that I can exploit to find the condition?

Death? Sadness? Intent? Will?

Or...

Yeah. I’mma shelf this for later.

[The Guardian’s all-seeing eyes|Active|{Primordial}]

[Tap to see skill description.]

Go ahead.

[After having a hard time gazing at all four walls of this universe, Olephus, this Universe’s former Primordial Guardian, gouged his eyes out and bypassed plausibility as he augmented them with divinity. His eyes became golden, possessing the ability to peer through the laws of existence and the borders of the universe. With these eyes, the Guardian sees the stats of every living thing.]

I see.

Golden eyes, huh.

[Tip: Guardian can view the status window of every living thing. And when the Young Guardian gains {divinity}, the full, real power of the all-seeing eyes will be realized.]

So I can see the status window of all living things.

Is it kinda like how I saw the red status window of the monsters?

Those status windows did appear unstable and glitchy as they always suddenly popped out of nowhere.

I guess that was a premature version of the skill?

I nodded.

"Duz! Can we go now?!" Jerry yelled out, snapping me out of my daze.

I shook my head, clearing my throat.

"Yeah, sure. Let’s head out."

Marcus groaned. "Finally."

Marcus buckled his shoes, and Jericho arranged his coat, and they both walked forward, toward the gate.

I walked behind them, passing the groups and crowds, most of which were engrossed in their food. Injured men stood at certain corners, clenching their jaws as people applied first aid.

Obviously, those men risked their lives to bring food for their groups.

How amusing.

While holding my breath as I walked behind Marcus and Jericho, I suddenly had a strange enlightenment.

I gazed at both of them. Their broad shoulders stared back at me.

I can see the stats of every living thing, huh?

All-seeing eyes.

I activated the skill.

Immediately, an influx of status windows popped up from every single corner of the station.

What the-

I moved my neck, surveying the entire room.

A blue window floated on the head of every single person here.

The numerous, identical sights caused my eyes to ache.

I just wanted to check Jericho and Marcus’s status.

Turn it off!

The skill deactivated immediately.

I breathed out a sigh of relief.

Never again in a crowded place.

Maybe when we’re outside, I’ll check Jericho and Marcus’s status.

Wasting no time, we left the station, stepping out of the gate and into the city.

The first thing my consciousness noticed as I stepped out of the gate was the sensory cool that flushed over my entire body.

I closed my eyes, savoring the cool, fresh air that blew against my skin. The smell of... whatever that damn smell was, disappeared as soon as we got out. And although the smell of the city wasn’t any good, it was still far better than that of the station.

At least I knew that the smell that currently assaulted my nose was that of decayed corpse, dried blood, leaking pipes and some other things that I didn’t bother to list.

I opened my eyes, breathing out.

The pseudo-harsh sun rays showered on me, pouring their glistening light on the surface of the ruined city.

"Damn, the world really is fucked." Said Jerry as he stared at the ruin.

Destroyed buildings lay scattered in uneven blocks. The metal spines of most buildings still perked out like jagged thorns.

Buried under the pile of ruined blocks and shattered infrastructure, the cracked asphalt ground was nowhere to be seen.

"’Fucked’ is an understatement," I stated.

We all stood for a few seconds, just taking in the sight and noticing the change.

It was real. This was the new reality.

I raised my neck skyward, squinting my eyes and covering them with my arms to filter the sun rays.

"I think we should get going," Marcus chimed in, "to the nearby mall."

I relaxed my eyes, gazing at Marcus with raised brows as I asked: "What are the odds that the mall isn’t already ruined? Is that really the only place we can find food?"

"It’s the closest," Jerry said.

Fair.

"Exactly." Said Marcus, "Where else do you have in mind?"

I shrugged. "Nowhere."

Marcus nodded. "We’re good then."

"Yes, we are," Jerry said.

We all knew where the nearest mall was, and so, not much needed to be said. It was just about thirty minutes away.

That’d give me enough time to grind some Exp on the way, and also to see Jericho’s newfound light bulb power in action.

We began to walk, slow, steady and cautiously.

As we walked, none of us uttered a single word. We passed the damaged streets where no single monster roamed. In fact, the only monsters present in the streets were the already dead ones.

Needless to say, I was disappointed. WE were disappointed.

"Why the hell aren’t there any monsters?!" Jerry screamed, disappointed.

I sighed.

"It is a bit disappointing," Marcus said.

"Eh," I shrugged. "At least we aren’t far from the mall now."

And...

Jerry sighed, nodding. "Yeah, true."

I activated all-seeing eyes.

Their stats are really impressive.
