Chapter 314: CAN YOU MAKE IT LESS PAINFUL?

Lucian widened his eyes in alarm. He looked at River as if this woman were holding a knife and was going to kill him.

"What? No! You misheard that!" Lucian immediately went to hide behind Ranon’s back, while the latter smirked to see how upset River was.

Water trickled down to her cheek, following her jawline, while her hair was bundled up with a towel above her head.

She was not Hazel, and that was very obvious, but Ranon’s feeling couldn’t be mistaken. Her appearance changed completely, but it was still the woman that he loved, and Ranon recognized her, no matter what name she used or how her appearance looked.

The annoyance in her eyes, the way she pressed her lips when she was pissed. Her sharp, deadly gaze... He loved her no matter how dangerous she was.

"Misheard?" River took a step closer toward Lucian, which made the man feel threatened by her presence. "You asked Ranon to find a normal woman. Do you think Hazel was not normal?"

Lucian was tongue-tied. He didn’t know how to respond to that. He looked at Ranon, but his best friend was staring at River with eyes full of adoration. He must be crazy.

The topic of Hazel has been sensitive for Ranon over the past few months. They wouldn’t talk about Hazel so casually without triggering something inside him.

However, Ranon didn’t even mind when River mentioned Hazel so casually.

"What? Do you think the woman with Ranon was not normal?" River took a step forward again, and now there was only Ranon between her and Lucian.

"I..." Lucian glanced back and forth between Ranon and River, but there was no word that he could produce; his mind was a mess. What kind of situation was he in right now? This situation was so absurd. Why was Ranon so chill when River brought up Hazel’s name?

Finally, Ranon showed some mercy on Lucian. He kissed River’s forehead and wrapped his arm around her shoulder.

"You need to dry your hair properly." Ranon wiped the water droplets that trickled down her neck. "Come on."

"Ranon..." Lucian hissed; his intention was only for Ranon to hear him, but River was too close to them not to catch that. "You are not drunk, right? Did she put a spell on you? We need to get you checked." Lucian grabbed Ranon’s elbow to stop him.

How could he bring another woman to his bedroom? Wait. Did River take a bath in his bedroom?

River then swatted Lucian’s hand away. "Draw another contract for us if you have some spare time." River winked at him. "The same clause you included in Ranon and Hazel’s contract."

Those last words left Lucian dumbfounded. And before he could recover and ask for more, the two of them had disappeared from the kitchen.

"What?" Lucian blinked his eyes, and then shock washed over him. "What did she mean by that?!" The contract was supposed to be confidential. How did River know that?!

River stared at Ranon’s reflection in the mirror; everything felt like a dream. It felt as if the past few months had never happened, and they had never been separated.

However, when she looked at her own reflection, she felt a little bit off. She had been used to seeing Hazel’s face staring back at her to the point that she had forgotten what her own face looked like. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

And now, she returned to her own body, but the feeling was the same as when she occupied Hazel’s for the first time. She needed to get used to it again.

"What are you thinking?" Ranon asked. He combed her hair after he dried it. He loved her long black hair, the same way he loved her curls.

"A lot of things." River looked up to see his face. "Do you really trust me? What if I lied to you? Don’t you want to ask me questions?"

Ranon kissed the tip of her nose. "Will you answer my questions?"

Hearing the question, River laughed. She brought his lips to hers and replied. "Well, you can try. I will answer the question if I can."

This was the same conversation that they had more than a year ago. Ranon had asked the same question, and River replied exactly the same.

There was no way other people would know about it. Even if River faked it, she wouldn’t be able to answer it exactly the same way Hazel did.

"I have no question," Ranon whispered against her lips, but when his hand brushed away her collarbones, down to her chest, River pushed it away.

"But I have a question for you," River said with a stern voice. She lifted her head and broke the kiss between them. She turned her body to face Ranon.

The man was still standing while she was sitting; thus, River had to crane her neck to see him.

"Were you with someone in my absence?" River narrowed her eyes. She was still upset because Lucian intended to introduce Ranon to other women. That man needed a good beating.

"Why?" Ranon raised his brows. He crossed his arms, seemingly in a very good mood, as he had the energy to tease River.

"Why?" River repeated the question. She stood up and put her hand on her hips. She wanted to intimidate Ranon because of how annoyed she was with his answer, but that was a silly thought. "How could you?"

"Weren’t you with another man too?"

"Ranon!" River was furious, but Ranon laughed to see her face turn red. "Answer me."

"You know the answer," Ranon said between his laughter.

"I want you to say it. I want to hear it."

"You know it."

"I want to hear it." River was adamant, but Ranon was so childish. He refused to give in. "Ranon!"

Ranon kissed her to shut her up. He pushed her to bed and pinned her down. "It is only you, no one else." He kissed her with urgency when River tried to twist her wrist to get away from him.

In the end, however, she easily gave up. Her whole body felt like it was on fire. The more he touched her, the more she wanted him. The longing made her feel like dying, and the sexual tension drove them both crazy.

Yet, before they could go further, there was a knock on the door, and Lucian’s voice travelled inside.

"Ranon, Logan is here," he said. "Ranon?"

Both Ranon and River wanted to ignore him, but Lucian knocked on the door rapidly and kept calling Ranon’s name like a broken radio, which made their desire plummet.

"I am going to kill him," River groaned when she pushed Ranon away from her. She was frustrated with Lucian. Couldn’t he wait for another hour or leave when no one answered him?

In this case, River believed Lucian did it intentionally to interrupt their moment together.

Ranon lay on his back. He closed his eyes, trying to simmer down. "Hm. Kill him. He has been very annoying lately," Ranon said, agreeing with River.

If only Lucian heard what Ranon said, he would cry a river.

Thankfully, River was not crazy enough to end Lucian’s life for being a nuisance. She opened the door and snapped at him, while the other man took two steps back, scared of her.

"What?!"

"Lo—Logan is here. Where is Ranon?" He craned his neck to peek into the room, calling Ranon in a small voice. "Ranon? Ranon? Where are you, Ranon?"

"Do you think he is a cat?" River frowned at him.

And from behind River, Ranon finally appeared. He looked at Lucian with a sharp glare before he walked away to meet with Logan.

Lucian hastily followed him, while River was right behind the two of them.

"Are you okay?" Lucian asked worriedly. "She didn’t do anything weird to you, right?"

Ranon glanced at him with a scowl. "She would have without your interruption."

However, the way Ranon said that was not in a grateful way. He was exasperated with the interruption, and Lucian was speechless.

How could River have Ranon mesmerized when they just met for the first time? Lucian didn’t even see that River was trying to be flirty with Ranon.

Lucian glanced over his shoulder to see River but immediately turned his head away because that woman was scary.

He missed Hazel so badly; at the very least, she didn’t have a scary expression like River.

Well, fairly speaking, River’s features enhanced her murderous aura, especially when she was in a terrible mood.

In the living room, Logan was waiting for Ranon. He was sitting on the sofa with his head between his palms. He looked haggard and thinner than the last time River saw him.

Meanwhile, Archie had moved to the guest room, where he continued sleeping after he was full and happy enough to watch a movie with Lucian.

"Ranon," Logan greeted Ranon, his voice hoarse. "So, this is it?" he asked. He came without any intention to fight back.

He knew this moment would come eventually.

After Logan learned that Daniel had died because he fell from the stairs in his wheelchair, he knew it was not that simple.

He was well aware that his turn would come one day. Thus, when Ranon called him, he had prepared himself.

But still, he couldn’t stop trembling.

Behind Ranon, Logan saw Lucian and a woman, who fixed her eyes on him. He wondered who that woman was.

"Can you make it less painful?" Logan asked, almost begged, Ranon.
