Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain-Chapter 315: MEETING ASHLYN
River raised her brows. She didn’t expect that Logan would surrender himself easily. How depressed was he to be willing to be killed by Ranon?
Logan lost his son and had been living with a strong sense of guilt because he thought he caused Hazel’s death.
Ranon looked at him, but he said nothing. It only made Logan a little bit confused, and he didn’t know what to do.
"Can you... leave my father and brother alone? Can you make my death as if it is an accident and give my body back to them so they can bury me?" Logan made his requests, and he started talking about unnecessary things when Ranon didn’t say anything.
On the other hand, River was not sure how to feel about him.
Logan was not like a brother to her, especially now that she was River, but they had grown close in the last few months before Hazel’s death.
But then, Logan’s betrayal was the cause of everything.
However, to kill him...
Ranon still didn’t say anything, and Lucian chose not to interrupt this moment. He could understand if Ranon decided to kill Logan for what he had done, and Lucian was also well aware that whatever he said wouldn’t change Ranon’s decision.
In the end, River spoke up because Logan was getting more and more scared. She had never seen him like this before.
The reckless middle child from the Rose family, who had caused so many headaches for Greyson, looked so desperate right now.
River had discovered so many sides of him at this point. He was actually a caring father, and he was not as ignorant as people assumed he was.
"You have so many requests for someone who is going to die," River said coldly. "Follow me."
Her words draw the attention of the three men to her. Ranon had been quiet the entire time because he wanted River to decide what she was going to do to Logan.
On the other hand, Lucian and Logan looked confused as to why she was the one who gave an order. They looked at Ranon, but the latter didn’t say anything.
And because Ranon didn’t give an objection, Logan had no other choice but to follow River to one of the guest rooms.
"Go inside," River said, nodding at the door for Logan to enter first. She watched how beads of sweat formed on his forehead, his breathing became uneven, and his face turned pale.
Logan was scared shitless.
And then River thought what he was feeling now would be enough. She didn’t see the point of killing him.
"Go inside," River said again when Logan froze in his place. He was unable to meet her eyes, and for a split second, River thought he was going to run away.
However, to her surprise, Logan took a deep breath and then entered the room. His expression was like someone who was guided to their gallows.
Once Logan entered the room, River closed the door, and it didn’t take long before they heard loud sobs from inside, as Logan finally realized his son was sleeping peacefully on the bed.
"You are not going to kill him?" Lucian asked Ranon, but he glanced at River, who approached Ranon; thus, out of instinct, Lucian moved out of her way.
"Not now," Ranon said.
He didn’t promise to let Logan live, but he would definitely kill him if he made a mistake or breathed around him wrongly.
This would also be the last time he stepped into his house.
"I want to see her," River said. She didn’t want to delay it anymore. She was going to see Ashlyn.
Ranon glanced at the clock. "She is sleeping," he said reluctantly, and River caught his hesitation, which made her even more adamant.
"I know. I want to see her."
Ranon looked at her for a while and then gave in. "Fine." He took River’s hand, but Lucian was already on his ear, hissing like a snake.
"Who? Who are you going to see? Ashlyn? You are going to let her see Ashlyn? Ranon, are you crazy? Don’t you know who she is?" Lucian shook his head comically. "Ranon? Did you hit your head or what? No, you can’t."
"Why?" River was amused by Lucian’s antics. He recoiled when she shifted her attention to him, but he wouldn’t leave Ranon’s side. He looked like the unwanted third wheel, clinging to Ranon’s left side. "Do you think I am going to kill her in her sleep?"
Lucian widened his eyes dramatically as he shook Ranon’s shoulder. "Do you hear that? Do you hear that?"
Ranon frowned. He pushed Lucian away from him before he entered the elevator. "Get off me."
"No! Ranon!" Lucian wanted to enter the elevator too, but River had closed the door; she pressed the button rapidly like a mean girl.
Once the door was closed, she laughed heartily to see Lucian’s panicked expression.
"You are so happy." Ranon caressed her cheek gently, wiping the tears away from the corner of her eyes, because she laughed too much.
"He is so funny." River grinned. She tiptoed and lifted her body slightly by holding onto Ranon’s shoulders to kiss him. "What?" She asked when she saw Ranon raise his brows.
"It’s a good thing that you get taller."
"What?" River hissed at him.
Hazel was shorter than River, so, even though Hazel tiptoed, if Ranon didn’t bend his body slightly to accommodate her height, she wouldn’t be able to kiss him.
However, River was taller. With a little effort, she could kiss him, especially since he was leaning back at the moment.
"Are you mocking my height? Had you been mocking my height all this time?"
Ranon laughed. He didn’t answer her question, but he took her hand and walked out of the elevator. "Let’s go."
It was close to midnight, and everyone was already sleeping, aside from a few men that Ranon put around the place.
Because River would come, Ranon asked Renna to stay with Ashlyn in the apartment that they had occupied before for the night.
Cam was there when they were about to enter the apartment. He was shocked to see Ranon was going in with River, since he knew who she was.
"Mr. Leighton..." Cam called his name, as if to warn him, but he didn’t finish his words when Ranon waved him off, so he had no other choice but to step back.
River looked at him. She wanted to thank him because he had saved Ashlyn, but finally, she chose not to say anything and silently followed Ranon into the room.
"You are so mean. Why did you move her here? Where is her room?" River looked around the place. It was not big, so it wouldn’t be hard for her to find Ashlyn if Ranon was trying to annoy her.
Ranon closed the door. He stayed and held River’s hand.
"Ranon, I don’t want to play. Let me go." River frowned; she was not in the mood to play whatever games Ranon had in his mind. She wanted to see her daughter quickly.
Yet, Ranon didn’t let her go.
"There is something I want you to know," Ranon said. His voice dropped, and his expression became serious. His goofy side, just a few seconds ago, had disappeared, and River could sense there was something not right.
"What is it? What happened?" She felt her heart was thumping wildly. When she was with Rafael, she didn’t have access to information freely.
It was already difficult to catch a glimpse of Ranon on social media. But it was nearly impossible to find out Ashlyn’s well-being.
"Tell me. What is it, Ranon?" River moved closer as if she was afraid she would miss his words. "Something happened to her? Did she... lose something?" River didn’t know how to put it into words.
Was her daughter disabled? Deformed? Did she lose her sight? A finger? A hand? A leg?
"What, Ranon?!" River became agitated. The longer it took for Ranon to speak, the worse and weirder River’s mind became.
"She doesn’t speak. She has not spoken a single word since what happened," Ranon finally said when he saw the panic on River’s face.
"She doesn’t speak?"
"Yes." Ranon nodded and then told her that they had tried a few methods, but they didn’t show any progress at all.
River couldn’t believe it—that Ashlyn had still not spoken until now. She was so little. Did she still remember that?
"Where is her bedroom?" River asked; her mind was blank. How could Ashlyn still remember that? Would she still remember what she said before, or would she never speak at all?
Ranon took River to Ashlyn’s bedroom, where she was sleeping with her stuffed bunny. Her chest suddenly tightened as tears welled in her eyes.
It had been close to a year since the last time she saw Ashlyn. And now she was going to turn three. She was getting taller, and her hair was longer. She lost some of her baby fat.
Suddenly, the thought of how much River lost of Ashlyn’s milestones hit her hard, but then she was frozen in time; her daughter still didn’t speak, and it was all her fault.
"I am sorry..." River whispered to herself as she walked toward the bed, where Ashlyn was sleeping. She touched her cheek with trembling fingers while Ranon was standing behind her. He remained silent.
As if Ashlyn could feel someone in the bedroom, she stirred in her sleep. The little girl opened her eyes and looked at River...
