Unexpected Marriage: She is the Sugar Mommy!-Chapter 353: Blessings for You
Sure enough, Seraphina Sinclair instantly understood that Keith Hughes invited her to Old Master Hughes’s birthday banquet because his grandfather wanted to meet the girl he liked.
Without hesitation, Seraphina refused, "If it was just a normal invitation, perhaps I would attend the banquet. But if it’s to attend as the person our senior likes, then it’s unnecessary. I came today to make things clear with you."
Seeing Keith’s gaze dim, Seraphina continued, "Keith, there’s no possibility between us, and please don’t waste your time on me anymore."
"Is it because of President Fairchild?" Keith probably guessed the reason too. Seraphina always had lingering feelings for Desmond Fairchild, so rejecting him because of this seemed quite natural.
He never expected Seraphina to accept him instantly. In the emotional tug-of-war, he chose a gradual approach, so while he regretted Seraphina’s rejection, he didn’t plan to give up.
"Yes, Desmond and I have reconciled. Although you are a good person, Keith, I regret that there is indeed no fate between us, so I hope you will find someone better." Seraphina felt that since she was going to reject him, it should be clear and unmistakable—impossible means impossible. She didn’t want to give Keith any hope.
Reconciled? Keith’s eyes slightly dimmed.
Actually, he had suspected this for a while; he just didn’t realize it was true.
He revealed a disappointed smile, unsure for a moment how to respond.
Seraphina knew she was being direct, which might hurt, but in matters of the heart, there shouldn’t be hesitation. Since she already had Desmond and originally had no feelings for Keith in that way, she had to reject him thoroughly—being hesitant would only make things more troublesome.
She coughed lightly, clarifying further, "You are indeed very good, Keith. You could be a good boyfriend if we were to date, but we are not suitable for each other. So..."
"So I wish you happiness." Keith’s face didn’t look good, yet he forced a smile to bless Seraphina.
"Thank you for understanding." Seraphina didn’t expect Keith to accept so easily, and suddenly the burden in her heart lifted.
Keith casually curled his lips, "I admire you, this is a fact. But since you already have a better home, I can only bless you. Of course, even if you have a lover now, you shouldn’t lose a friend, right?"
Seraphina was momentarily stunned, "You mean?"
Keith gazed at Seraphina’s clear brows and eyes, smiling, "Although we can’t be lovers, we can still be good friends, right?"
"Naturally." Seraphina hesitated for a few seconds but then smiled. Since Keith considered so much, it would be somewhat childish to say it directly that it’s best not to be friends either.
Sitting behind them, Desmond Fairchild’s handsome face darkened upon hearing this. He had guessed right; Keith was using the retreat to advance, making it hard for Seraphina to refuse. So long as he had a role by her side, he could seize the opportunity to win her over.
Desmond knew exactly what Keith was plotting.
However, to interrupt now would be inappropriate. It would only lead Seraphina to think he was petty.
"Since, as friends, inviting you to my grandfather’s birthday banquet isn’t too much, is it?" Keith once again pushed the invitation towards Seraphina, signaling her not to refuse him.
At this point, if Seraphina continued to decline, it would be unreasonable. She could only take the invitation, "Alright, see you at the birthday banquet then."
After leaving the café, Seraphina let out a sigh of relief.
Having settled things with Keith, she felt much better, at least without the pressure of having to deal with him.
Just as she was about to hail a cab back to the company, a low voice sounded from behind, "Just coffee, aren’t you hungry?"
"What are you doing here?" Seraphina asked as she turned, bumping into Desmond Fairchild’s chest, her nose aching from the impact, bringing tears to her eyes.
"Would you believe if I said, it’s a coincidence?" Desmond stopped her with his arm, his long fingers gently soothing her sore nose, his husky voice carrying a hint of teasing.
To claim it was a coincidence, Seraphina would never believe. Leaning in his embrace, she could clearly smell the coffee aroma; it must have lingered here for a while.
Seraphina laughed at him, "What’s the matter? Worried I’d run off with someone else? Came to catch me in the act?"
Desmond shook his head, "I’m not worried you’d run off with others, only worried someone might snatch you away."
"Don’t worry, I’ve been trained, I won’t be snatched away so easily." Seraphina found it amusing yet felt warmth within.
Being cared for so attentively, she felt as if she were truly alive.
"What would you like to eat?" Desmond asked softly.
Just as Seraphina was about to answer, Desmond’s phone rang. Seeing the caller ID ’Nina Kerr,’ her expression instantly turned sour.
"Do you remember the condition for reconciling with me?"
Desmond hung up, his tone sincere, "I’ll resolve this matter soon."
Seraphina extended her hand toward him, "Your phone."
Desmond obediently handed over the phone, "Here."
"We have to resolve this sooner or later, why not make it clear to her now? Between you two, it’s merely a transaction. If Nina insists on being unreasonable, let her come to me instead." Seraphina opened Desmond’s contact list and dialed Nina.
Soon, the call connected, Nina’s soft voice came through, "Desmond, it’s been a while since we met. Do you have time today? Shall we have dinner together?"
Her voice was truly enchanting; if it weren’t for her knowing Nina’s character well, she might be charmed.
"Nina, it’s me." Seraphina’s confident and dazzling smile appeared.
"Seraphina?" Recognizing Seraphina’s voice, Nina’s voice halted for a moment but quickly turned more enthusiastic, "So Desmond hasn’t been seeing me because he’s with you, Seraphina?"
"As the father of our child and more as my fiancé, wouldn’t be with me but with you?" Seraphina was never lenient with her adversaries; with people like Nina who take an inch, she assumes control—there’s no need for politeness.
However, to Nina, Desmond was mostly a stepping stone. Even though she cooperated with Desmond, she never had genuine feelings for him, so learning he was with Seraphina now surprised her, but didn’t make her feel sad.
Just a little bit of regret indeed.
So towards Seraphina’s remarks, Nina felt mildly indifferent, "Aren’t you being a bit too much with your words, Seraphina? After all, I’m Desmond’s contracted girlfriend, and you claim you can just take him away—isn’t that a bit improper?"
