Under The Veil of Night-Chapter 716 Complicated Matters of Officials 1
Chapter 716 Complicated Matters of Officials 1
"I'm tired," Kanae murmured as she dropped to the ground. After forcing her legs to move around so much, she could feel the fatigue and pain coming at her. Beads of sweat formed on her face, showing how tired she felt.
Kevin stood still with his sword by his side, blood dripping from the sharp end. He looked at Kanae with worry. "Are you alright?"
"I think I strained my muscle," Kanae smiled wryly. Part of her calf didn't seem to feel anything at this point. Except for the slight pain that she experienced here and there, there was nothing else.
Frowning, Kevin sheathed back his sword and crouched near Kanae. He stretched out his hand and pulled the girl's right foot only to earn a yelling right to his ear.
"Stop that! It hurts!"
"I need to look at your feet."
"You're not a doctor. Just leave it be, I'm sure it'll heal in a few hours," Kanae scrunched her face.
Kevin shook his head and lightly massaged her feet. The girls face changed abruptly as she felt pain occasionally, but her mouth was closed firmly.
On the back, Cain was watching the two of them with a blank expression. He couldn't associate these two nonchalant teenagers with the two powerful fighters just now. It felt as if the fight he watched was nothing but a dream. The contrast of their attitude was a bit too much.
But he knew that it was not something impossible. Knowing the people around Ferdinand, those cold-hearted people during battle have their own humanity side too. They could act like there was nothing that differentiate them with ordinary people.
'Well, one can go crazy if they have to have the same mindset of ruthlessness all the time.'
Turning his head to look at his father's body, Cain's heart tightened. Even though he never had any good impression of this man, the latter was still his father. He was someone whom he has accompanied for a long period of time.
While he was lamenting, the voice of Kevin snapped him back to reality.
"Let's go up. We still have to search for Mrs. Erica," Kevin called the man. "Do you still have the energy to continue?"
Cain nodded his head. "I barely expend any energy in doing the work."
The three of them walked on top of the imbalance ground. It was the result of an avalanche, so they have to be careful to not induce the second round of avalanche. That would have been a great disaster.
Some trees were still barely visible in tilted position. Even though only part of them were visible, it served as the mark that this place once was a forest. It could make one wonder how an avalanche could happen in this place.*
"There are several people up there," Kanae pointed to the area where the trees were still standing firmly. A rather deep pit between the trees and the ground, which partially covered their lower half of their body.
Kevin nodded his head. They walked closer and recognized the two of them as Patrick and Neo.
"Boss!" Neo exclaimed in excitement. His brows creased when he realized that their conditions were far from good. "You need medical treatment right away!"
"I'll be fine," Kanae waved her hand with a grin on her face. Even though it felt painful for her to walk around after being thrown and hit numerous times, she didn't really care much.
The two of them could be considered as experts in terms of concealing their real feelings. For years, they have trained the skill and endured harsh training that would make one unable to stand. Just a little bit of pain would be nothing much for them.
Kevin's attention was on the car that was partially buried near them. Only the front with part of the window was still visible. However, it was clear that the glass had been broken and the inside was filled with soil and dirt.
"Is this Erica's car?"
"Yes," Patrick nodded his head. He had dug part of the soil in the side, which allowed him to see the driver's seat. Even though it was only partially visible, there was a woman in horrible condition inside. He hadn't dug her completely as he was unsure what he should do.
As a fighter, he was very capable in terms of combat. Unfortunately, he was not capable of mending the troubles he had created for the clan. Most of the time, the other members would have to work hard in order to make sure that there was no problem for him.
In short, he only knew how to create trouble but knew nothing of how to deal with it.
"Sorry, Boss," Neo scratched his head. "I never thought that the car Ferdinand prepared for her is not strong enough to handle an avalanche."
"It's not your fault," Kanae smiled wryly.
In the first place, who would expect that they would use the terrain and created a forceful avalanche? To be able to prepare a car that suited this situation would certainly be something above Ferdinand. After all, he had not picked the ability to see the future.
"I'll deal with it," Kevin replied. "For now, let's go to hospital."
"Yes."
….
While they were busy cleaning the mess that occurred because of this incident, Jason was busy following after George. Different with Erica, George only visited several stores to see how they conducted their morning service. So far, what he saw was quite satisfying.
After toiling around for a few hours, he returned back to the hotel and sat down in the restaurant. He had missed his breakfast because he departed before they prepared the food, so he quickly stuffed himself with food.
"Good morning Mr. George," Jason greeted cheerfully, not showing any mark that he almost didn't sleep at all the night before.
George nodded his head and gulped down the food in his mouth. "Good morning, Jason. Do you have good sleep?"
"I do," Jason lied with a composed expression.
Even though George suspected what Jason said, he didn't say anything. He pointed at the plate of grapes that he had taken for his breakfast. "Have some. I'm sure you're pretty hungry."
"There's no need, I have eaten not long ago," Jason refused politely.
"If you say so."
Seeing that George didn't seem to feel that it was weird that Erica disappeared, Jason grew curious. The attitude that George showed seemed to be very nonchalant and distant.
George caught the inquiring look that Jason purposely showed. "Everyone has their own reason to come here. I may be only someone who has poor luck, but it might not be the same with her."
He spoke in riddle, but Jason caught his point immediately. They only picked two people randomly. This man came here because he lucked out in the lot, but Erica never told them the reason why she came here.
Jason understood the man's intention and smiled warmly. "I'm sure you have your own share of trouble too, Mr. George."
"The lives of officials have always been filled with acting," George replied solemnly. "Even the most innocent ones will never be able to escape the corroding nature that they spread out."
"I see."
George put down the spoon on his plate. "Our objectives are different. Now, what's the schedule for today?"
"Today…"
