Chapter 160: On the Verge of Insanity (2)

Adrienne and Irina’s conversation wasn’t finished when the door opened, revealing an enraged Camilla Yan. Adrienne laughed inwardly. She knew that Elise’s misfortune was enough to drive this woman mad. Camilla might be ruthless to others, but she treasured her children the most, so Adrienne was set to destroy both siblings.

She turned her head with all her smiles toward her stepmother. She then gave Irina a meaningful look, telling her bodyguard not to get involved this time.

"Aunt Camilla, how is Elise? Is it time to return home yet?’ Adrienne stood and greeted the newcomer. She hadn’t expected Camilla would confront her this early.

Seeing Adrienne’s mocking smile, the simmering rage Camilla was nursing almost reached its limit. She stepped forward and raised her hand, intending to slap Adrienne’s face.

Irina wanted to stop it but couldn’t interfere because of her miss’s order. However, before Camilla’s hand touched her face, Adrienne grabbed her stepmother’s wrist harshly. Her grip was strong and tight, and Camilla sucked in a breath in surprise.

"Why is Aunt Camilla pushing the blame on me? Although you married my father, you have no right to discipline or beat me at will," she said straight-faced. "Anyway, I wasn’t the one who defiled your daughter. Shouldn’t you be going after Young Master Gu instead of me?"

Camilla didn’t expect that Adrienne would be able to stop her. The young woman before her was shorter than her, but Adrienne’s strength was astonishing. She didn’t know when Adrienne became smart and conniving. She could no longer intimidate or humiliate Adrienne. However, with Elise’s misfortune, she wasn’t willing to let go of Rosemary’s daughter!

Her anger boiled within her as she clenched her fists. She knew that going after Young Master Gu would be a futile attempt, as his family was well-protected and influential. Despite Adrienne’s newfound strength and cunning, Camilla was determined to find another way to ensure Rosemary’s daughter suffered for her actions.

Elise’s future wasn’t as promising as it was before. Now that the matter had been revealed to some guests, Camilla feared it would destroy her daughter’s chances of marrying into a good family. She didn’t know what method Adrienne used to switch places with Elise, but Camilla did not doubt that the young woman before her was the reason for their failures. She should have found it odd or suspicious that Elise never answered her call last night.

"Young Master Gu defiled Elise, but what does it have to do with me? I didn’t ask her to move into that room last night. If I didn’t leave and meet Miss Shen, the person who would suffer such misfortune would be me, yet Aunt Camilla is blaming me in the end."

It would have been better if Adrienne hadn’t said those words, but they only reminded the older woman that she was partly responsible for all of it. How could this little bitch be so lucky? Adrienne’s words undoubtedly infuriated Camilla even more.

"Excuses! Excuses! There’s no way Elise would want to move into that room! It must have been you who instigated it! If someone should have defiled and ruined last night, it should be you, not my Elise!"

When Irina heard what Camilla Yan said, her eyes darkened dangerously. This woman was courting death by cursing her future mistress like this. No one in this world would bully their future mistress without facing the consequences. Camilla Yan only added more reasons for Lennox Qin to go after her.

Adrienne maintained her composure, appearing unfazed by what Camilla had told her. She had long expected that Camilla would shed any cordiality left between them. Elise was Camilla’s sore spot, and there was no way she would let the matter go easily.

"Do you think your father will let you off now that you harmed Elise? Adrienne, your days are now numbered!"

Adrienne let out a laugh behind her hand. She looked at Camilla as if the woman had truly lost her mind.

"Does Aunt Camilla still believe that Father has control over me? Adrienne thought, amused. She knew that her father’s influence over her had waned long ago, and she was now free to make her own decisions. Camilla’s delusion only fueled Adrienne’s determination to assert her independence even more.

Camilla sneered at her before turning around and leaving. Even with the help of the Gu family, she still failed to ruin Rosemary’s daughter.

After she left, Irina glanced at her young miss with curiosity. She curiously asked, "Miss, aren’t you afraid they will go all out after you?"

She wasn’t worried about Adrienne, for Irina knew that with her Master Nox around, he wouldn’t allow anyone to hurt their young mistress.

"What is there to be afraid of?" Adrienne crossed her arms and smiled. "At the end, all pretenses should be shed. Why should I allow them to trample over me and use me as a stepping stone for Elise’s future? Don’t worry, Irina. If they insist on making me responsible for Elise’s misfortune, I wouldn’t mind fueling the fire even more."

Camilla sought her out in her past life after leaving the Jiang family. She insisted that her grandparents say Adrienne should attend Marion Gu’s party. At that time, Adrienne didn’t know why the Jiang family suddenly treated her well. She was dressed up and pampered before the party.

Who knew she was the Jiang family’s sacrificial lamb about to get slain to gain an advantage over the Gu family? She had known Alistair since the incident at the Elysian, and he was the one who took her away and prevented Ares Gu from defiling her.

Irina briefly regarded her young mistress as she considered how vicious Adrienne was similar to their Master Nox, though they each had different strategies for dealing with their foes. Adrienne Jiang took pleasure in torturing her enemies first, denying them any chance of escape, while Lennox Qin would move covertly, dispatching his enemies in one swift motion.

Irina admired Adrienne’s cunning and ruthlessness, knowing that these qualities made her a formidable opponent. Despite their different approaches, both Lennox and Adrienne were equally feared in their own right, ensuring that their enemies never stood a chance against them.
