As the system flashed these messages in front of Nick, he grew more and more impressed. The evident approval in his eyes made Juliana smile even more, beyond glad to please her king.

Her new skill was perfect!

Not only that, but she felt far stronger now. Raising her arms in front of her, it was impossible to miss this new feeling of nimbleness.

It was like her arms were weightless, her punches stronger, and her magic far more devastating.

Chuckling, both in admiration and maybe a little fear, Nick said, "You got a bit stronger, huh?"

Juls laughed and punched his arm playfully, blasting him into the wall of the stronghold. Of course, he wasn't hurt too bad because 'aura of Destruction ' and all that.

"I'm only a bit stronger, huh?" Juls whispered, biting her lip as she spoke. Lightning coursed around her subconsciously, giving her eyes a beautiful, if dangerous, sparkle.

Still lying on his back and nearly breathless, Nick groaned, "Ok. Maybe more than a bit."

The next second Amelia was already by his side, lifting his head as she failed in her attempts at giving medical attention.

"Uh, sorry Nick, I-I don't know what to do!" Then she shot Juliana a motherly look of condescension as she continued, "Must you always hit him? You know that Nick is your friend, right? More than that, he is strong and protects us!"

Juliana walked to her king and plopped to the ground. Then she moved a lock of his hair that had fallen over his face as she whispered, "Oh, is my little king injured? No, he is strong. Even if I am his perfect Valkyrie, I can never be anything next to him."

Nick had closed his eyes, trying to block out their bickering, but at the last remark, he had to butt in. Never be anything?

"Why do you say stuff like that Juls? That you aren't good enough or perfect or whatevERR!!!"

Just as fast as her finger slammed onto his lips it retreated. Still, it did the desired effect of making her king quiet.

"King, we have more goblins to kill remember!"

"Yeah."

...

"Uhhhh... I don't know if I can do this!"

The stronghold loomed over Amelia like an insurmountable wall. Just by standing next to it, she could feel the intense bloodlust of the goblins within.

Their drooling mouths and excited chatter invaded her mind like a sick melody, a taunting revelation of death. Somewhere off in the distance Juliana and Nick were hiding behind a rock or something, doing their best to keep their aura from killing these goblins.

Though that wouldn't be too bad. It would be better than them attacking her, at least.

'Nick believes in you... Nick believes in you...' Amelia held on to that singular thought in between shaky breaths.

Nick was here anyway... even if the goblins went crazy he'd swoop in like a knight in shining armor.

Taking in a final breath of resolution, Amelia willed her heavy armor into existence and took a step forward. Suddenly, she felt free, liberated. Like a great weight was taken off.

Even the gentle breeze flowed along her skin, soothing her. For a moment before calamity, everything felt peaceful.

And then the goblins rushed forward.

"Sexy armor!" "Food! Food sexy!"

The goblins squealed in delight as they left their stations, eager to be the first to collect this new delicacy. As they rushed forward, Amelia's taunt skill caused them to become more and more aggressive.

Earthquakes spawned at their feet, causing the entire structure they danced on to groan. Once again, it was the dangerous melody of death playing during the middle of battle.

Except this time, the percussion set ended up taking a front row.

With one great crash, the entire front wall of the stronghold shattered. Dozens of goblins fell to their death, squeaking and squealing while wishing they could get another glimpse of Amelia even then.

Due to Amelia's taunt armor, their aggression had increased 100-fold. In their haste to capture her, they ended up destroying their own stronghold and dying in their own ruins.

'Wait, what!!!'

A bright light surrounded Amelia, the same one that Juliana had just gone through.

It was like a dazzling array of senses crashed into her mind at once. Like she could see the entire universe–beautiful stars, expansive galaxies, wonderful people.

Simultaneously, for the first time in her life, she felt strong herself. The more this light surrounded her, the less she felt the need for Nick.

But her connection to him never weakened even the slightest amount. Rather, even in this short moment of independence, Amelia found that she still valued her current relationship with Nick.

Just as fast as the energy came, it left.

Foll𝑜w current novℯls on ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm.

Empty–that's how she felt now. Feebly raising her hands in hopes of grasping any small remnant of power, she dropped them just as quickly.

Empty.

She paid no mind to the approaching footsteps of her new family. That fleeting feeling–not just of power, but also importance... she wanted it back again.

Badly.

But it was just so scary...

Because with that level of power, she knew people would expect her to help them. Just the same as she expected Nick to help her. And she didn't feel brave enough for that at all.

She wasn't even the reason the goblins died. They just... killed themselves.

Like idiots.

This didn't prove anything, she was still a little girl lost in a dark and endless sea–

"Amelia, smile. You just ranked up, you think our king wants to see you look this gloomy?"

Amelia tensed at Juliana's harsh words, piercing the space just behind her. But then all that tension was removed instantly after when Juliana gave her a quick but still soft hug.
