[Set bonus: +5 defense]

[Uncommon leather chest plate x2 obtained]

[Rare Hammer obtained]

[Unlock new interface: Forge]

'Forge? Another new mechanic?'

[Would you like to begin the Forge tutorial?]

Nick shrugged, figuring that this would just be another method to power up.

'Sure.'

A light flashed in front of Nick, showing him his current inventory screen. It prompted him to select his chest plate, so he did so, which introduced another menu.

[Uncommon leather chestplate]

[Sell: 500g]

[Transfer]

[Upgrade: 1 hammer, 2 Uncommon leather chestplates]

'Hmm? They need a tutorial for this? You just press the button.'

[No... There- there's more.]

'Really?'

[Yes. You don't know what upgrading does.]

'I'll find out the second I press the button.'

[Well... you won't know what the ranks mean!]

'Hmm. That's true.'

[Yes, it is true!]

[Equipment ranks]

[Common – horrible gear. Literally even bottom feeders can obtain better gear;

Uncommon – Ok gear. Can be found in the corpses of any monster;

Rare – Good gear. The standard for footsoldiers in an army;

Epic – Really good gear. Used by many generals and commanders;

Legendary – Absolutely busted gear. The epitome of mortal weaponry;

Mythical – This gear's quality transcends even space and time. Very few weapons and armor exist at this level of quality, and the few that do exist are always noted in history.]

'Hmm... So, my gear isn't all that good right now. Besides the ring I got from the boss, everything else is less than what even a regular footsoldier would wear.'

Nick looked at the ruins that were just a goblin stronghold and smirked.

'Yet they still died!'

[In order to upgrade your equipment, you must collect duplicates of that equipment as well as a certain amount of hammers. Any equipment can be upgraded once, which will upgrade their rank. For an example, upgrade your chest plate now]

The system repeatedly flashed the leather chestplate's menu in front of Nick's face. As if it wanted him to stop gloating and get on with it.

'Ok...' He thought as he selected the upgrade button.

A light encased his chest plate, blinding him for a second.

Amelia squealed, "Nick! Are you ok?!" While Juliana prepared a bit of lightning at her fingertips.

'Is she really trying to defend me by zapping me?!'

'Hurry up, hurry up armor!!!'

Updat𝓮d from frёewebnoѵēl.com.

The next moment the light disappeared, showing an armor that was mostly the same.

[Uncommon leather chest upgraded to rare]

[+10 defense]

'Too lazy to add a cosmetic change, huh?'

The system was silent against Nick's sass, having already performed its job.

Left with the ruins of a goblin stronghold, Nick turned back to Amelia and Juliana.

Juliana was seemingly still suspicious of the armor—or just looking for a reason to attack him. Amelia's eyes were star-struck.

Leaping in the air with glee, Amelia shouted, "Wow, Nick! I didn't know you were this strong!!!"

Nick smiled as he placed his hand behind his head. 'Yes, I am strong. But.. '

"Sorry that you guys couldn't kill any goblins."

Amelia's face flushed as she looked to the ground, averting her gaze from the dead goblins. Mumbling, she told the ground, "It's ok."

Juls shrugged as she zapped a goblin corpse, saying, "It's ok. You need the experience more than me, my king."

'Yeah...'

He didn't know if he enjoyed their versions of consolation, but there were plenty more goblin strongholds to raid anyway. Juliana and Amelia were going to get some experience either way.

...

"Ok, next goblin stronghold! This time, I'll just sit back and watch. Juliana, you take out half the goblins, and Amelia, you take the other half!" Nick stood before them, exuding the demeanor of a commander who's seen countless battles.

Except...

"Uh, Nick. The goblins are already dead."

Huh?!

Starting with just a peek behind him, Nick then quickly turned his whole body to face the stronghold. Sure enough...

'ALL 40 GOBLINS DIED?!!'

[40 C-Rank Goblins killed. Classification: Greater]

[Experience gained: 4,000]

[Level 6; 11,713/12,000 Experience]

[Cause of death: Aura]

Aura?

Aura!!!

Looking closer, he saw his aura of Destruction eat away at the dead goblins and even their buildings. Just his presence killed them then?!

'Ok then... next time, I'll give my orders from a distance.'

...

"JULIANA!!! USE YOUR LIGHTNING ON-"

"SKREEEEECHHHHH!!!"

Oh. That wasn't the best idea.

Alerted by Nick's loud screaming, the goblins launched a barrage of spears from their fortress. To Nick's surprise, she wasn't fazed in the least.

She simply raised her hand and said, "Yes, I know. Only target 36 goblins."

With that, 108 rays of lightning shot out from her hand. 72 for each of the goblins' spears and 36 for her targets. The smell of molten steel filled the air for just a second before it was followed by scorched flesh.

Nick watched as she perfectly hit 36 goblins in the chest with her lightning, instantly exploding them. Now it was Amelia's turn—

Squelch!

What...

Discarded bones from the Exploded impaled the living goblins. Within seconds, Juliana had killed 72 goblins by accident.

"Shet!!! Fluck!!! Sorry!!!" Juliana grabbed a fingerful of hair and twisted it before Nick's view of her was blocked by his system.

[Juliana killed 72 C-Rank Goblins. Classification: Greater]

[Rank experience gained: 17,280]

[Ranked up!!!]

'Rank up?'

An aura surrounded Juliana as she turned to her king with a smile. She was becoming stronger, better, more perfect! That's what her face told him.

A soft chuckle escaped his own lips. Juliana was going to be B-Rank. He didn't know exactly what that would entail just yet, but he figured it would make her above the monsters they just faced in the special dungeon.

Amelia squeaked as the light surrounding Juls grew even brighter, stronger.

'Heh. Always scared, huh?'

She was only D-Rank, though, to be fair. Once she grew more powerful, Nick figured she'd gain some more confidence just like himself.

Now that there were no more goblins that his aura could kill, Nick walked toward his Valkyrie. For just a moment, it felt like this new aura surrounding Juliana was pushing back against him.

But then in the next the aura dissipated completely, leaving Juliana smiling breathlessly as she stared at Nick, her eyes filled with life.
