Chapter 245: The Meeting In Helheim [ 9 ]

The meeting room was small. Clear blue lanterns decorated every nook and cranny, and at the very end of the room, there was a tall window. It had all sorts of demonic runes and strange angel-like creatures painted on it.

But despite that, the things that actually got my attention were the people sitting at the round table. There were four other Demon Kings, and naturally, there were four catalysts... Saviors.

That would mean I’m the fifth.

Though, as I stood there in the doorframe, I couldn’t help but feel like something was a little bit off. Sure, all the saviors were there, and so were the Demon Kings, but... Why exactly was I the only one not wearing a cloak?

Everyone else not only had cloaks but also masks and even diamond crowns to hide their appearance. Obviously, even if their appearance was hidden, I was able to recognize one person. That person was none other than Kai, who had seemingly undergone a drastic transformation.

He had his wings out behind him, but instead of the white color I remembered, his wings were pitch black. They emanated fierce demonic energy, but the rest of his body was surprisingly gentle, almost like the demonic energy was only focused in his wings.

And that seemed to really be the case, since when I paused for a moment and recalled Wilhelm’s words about Kai, and how my interference made him turn into a Fallen Angel, I realized that I had really pushed him way past his limits and accidentally made him that much stronger.

But despite our past, Kai didn’t even look at me. Actually, none of the saviors did. Only the retainers looked at me, and obviously, their strength was nothing to scoff at, as all four of them were as strong as Wilhelm, if not stronger.

Anyhow, I went ahead and sat down in the only seat that was free. I sat beside one savior whose appearance looked slightly feminine, and another savior who was very short, and even his fingers were tiny. He was definitely a child.

Though, that didn’t change the fact that this kid, as well as the woman, were well over Grade 60. It felt a little strange being the weakest in the room, if I’m being honest.

When I finally sat down, the door that we entered through abruptly slammed closed. Once it did, Wilhelm stood behind me, and with that, silence descended. I was a little confused why no one said a word at first, until I saw Kai turn toward one of the doors at the very back of the room.

In the next instant, I felt it too. There was an abnormally small amount of energy heading toward us, but despite its volume... the sheer fact that the energy managed to scramble my senses was enough for me to know that whoever was coming was strong.

Possibly even stronger than our retainers.

But who could it be...?

The footsteps grew nearer, and my head spun as I tried to think of who could be coming. That was until I remembered something.

There were Demon Kings, and those ranks were reserved for demons between Grade 70 and 80. But that also left them with two more grades.

Demon Emperor.

A very small group of demons between Grade 80 and 90.

And then lastly...

Demon God.

A position held by only one demon.

The same position that can only be attained by being the very strongest demon alive.

The main character had never actually fought a Demon Emperor, let alone a Demon God.

So even if I didn’t know the full extent of their powers, I highly doubted someone like a Demon God would come here, which meant that the one coming was a Demon Emperor.

Since they were such a high rank... they had enough authority to control up to five Demon Kings as though they were the Demon Emperor’s lackeys. As it so happened, there were five retainers in the room right now.

And as expected, when the Demon Emperor finally entered the meeting room, the air quickly shifted, making it hard for everyone present to breathe, including myself. Not to mention, my energy seemed to be passively scrambled.

It was as if every time I tried to control my energy to flow in one direction, this strange pressure would take 1/10th of that energy and reverse it, causing scorching pain to travel all throughout my body every second.

But I also knew if I gave in, then the Demon Emperor would cause much more damage to my body than I could likely regenerate.

I glanced over at the Demon Emperor’s scarlet eyes. Even though it was a man, his skin was very smooth and looked feminine. His long black hair didn’t make things any less confusing, nor did his horns, which were small, pure crimson, and spiraled in asymmetrical directions.

He looked rather odd, but his commanding presence and just the sheer amount of strength he was emitting with so little energy was enough to make everyone take him seriously.

And so when he arrived at our table, the first thing he did was introduce himself.

"I’m glad all the saviors could make it. I’m Ren, the Demon Emperor of Despair, and the current ruler of the capital city of the Demon Realm, Helheim."

He tapped the table once, then said:

"This meeting is more so to establish a connection between the saviors. The retainers mustn’t intervene. As for me, I’m only here to spectate for the moment. I will only comment on things I deem horseshit, so please, while you’re in my territory, speak the truth and nothing but the truth. Thank you in advance."

With that, he clapped once. In the next instant, all the cloaks and masks from each of the saviors were torn off, revealing everyone’s appearance. Some were surprised at the sudden unmasking, but people like Kai and the kid beside me didn’t even bat an eye.

Speaking of, the kid had a blindfold over his eyes, and seeing the fate trace of a large scar at the top and bottom of his blindfold, I’d guess his eyes had been clawed out.

Despite that...

"Let the meeting officially begin, my dear saviors."
