Chapter 244: The Meeting In Helheim [ 8 ]

Once the door fully opened, I spotted a very familiar face sitting on the couch to the right, eating some cookies with his feet kicked up on the table.

It was none other than Wilhelm, except now he looked a little different.

His hair was pitch black for the most part, yet the tips were not only spiky but completely white, radiating with vast amounts of energy, like some sort of protective barrier.

Not only that, there were two very thin horns sprouting out of his forehead, and for someone who went by the moniker of Demon King of Wrath... those horns seemed very puny?

Did they represent his patience...?

Maybe?

"Ah! You’re finally here," Wilhelm said, accidentally cracking the cookie and causing the crumbs to fall all over the couch.

Just seeing all those crumbs falling and him not even attempting to catch them made me want to hit him... but since he was much stronger than me, I held back.

"Glad you could make it. I honestly thought that, with how wary you are of anything, you’d be smarter not to come here. But oh well, welcome aboard. I heard from Alexius and one of my newer friends that you can control Divine Energy? Is that true?"

Divine Energy?

Right...

I remember the Divine Beast I fought mentioned that, but I didn’t think too hard on it. I thought that maybe it misunderstood something...?

But then I quickly realized that the reason why my energy and Alexius’s energy reacted that way was because it was inherently similar.

I unknowingly felt his Divine Energy and then, without meaning to, countered it with Divine Energy of my own. I had no idea how to control it or where it even was... the only thing I knew was that the reason I had it was because I absorbed Rachel’s shackles.

Despite that, if that energy really existed in my body, then that meant there had to be a way to train it, increase it, and force it to overtake my regular energy to give me a massive boost in strength.

As if reading my mind, Wilhelm let out another chuckle.

"You don’t know how to control it, do you."

"I don’t."

"Hmm~ Well, that’s better for me, I guess. I’ll have the luxury of introducing you as the chosen one."

My brow twitched.

"Pardon?"

"Remember that great calamity stuff I mentioned last time? Well, as it so happens, the Demonic Oracle mentioned the great calamity would wield Divine Energy and bring ruin everywhere," Wilhelm answered.

I felt a headache form from all these superstitions.

Just who was this damn Demonic Oracle anyway, and how did they predict so much?

"Nice horns, by the way. You’re pretty much ready for the meeting. Though... are you sure about this silly cloak get-up? I mean, Merilyn should’ve told you it’s not mandatory."

"I’ll take it off if the others have theirs off," I replied.

He shrugged.

"Suit yourself. She didn’t tell you anything else, right? Like what the meeting’s really about?"

I shook my head.

At that, he just nodded in satisfaction.

"Good, because with the amount of shitty rumors I spread throughout the city about what this meeting could be about, I half expected someone to snitch to you. If they did that, I would’ve massacred that group of demons. Thankfully, everyone’s loyal to the great cause, isn’t that right?"

He let out a hearty laugh and tried to tap my back, but I nimbly dodged it.

Or so I thought, until I noticed that he was now holding my cloak in his left hand and my mask in his right.

Then, in a slightly ominous tone, he said:

"No savior of ours wears a silly fucking cloak. That piece of shit Demon King of Envy can go fuck himself."

"...?"

That’s a little...

I thought he was the calm type?

Despite that, Wilhelm quickly crumbled both the cloak and the mask in his grasp, then pulled out some kind of diamond crown out of his dimensional ring.

It looked a little strange at first, but after just a few seconds, the lore I had read about the crowns in particular sparked back into my mind. Whenever a Demon King directly gave someone a diamond crown, they’d be deemed as the Demon King’s successor.

When done in private, no one would really take it to heart. Rather, the two in question would just shrug it off and say it never happened.

But if that successor were to step out wearing a diamond crown and be seen by others... the responsibilities that come with being the successor to a literal Demon King would bite them firmly in the ass.

Naturally, I didn’t want it, so instead of taking the crown, I stepped back.

Noticing that, Wilhelm raised a brow.

"You know about this?"

Then, he narrowed his eyes.

"I thought the way our successors are chosen was purely known within the Demon King circle, and not outside it~? Do we perhaps have a leak?"

Shit...

Was that information actually private?

Before I could wonder further, Wilhelm stashed away the diamond crown and, with a slightly pissed-off look, nodded at me.

"Don’t say a peep of this in the meeting, or I will kill you."

After a brief pause, I shrugged.

"Alright."

With that, it seemed like he was done trying to pull some strange tricks on me. Instead, he finished the rest of the cookies that remained on the table and then finally led me out of the room.

We went further down the hallway, and noticing that the very end of the hallway was decorated in a different style, I assumed that we had entered a different palace. After all, that was especially easy when all of them were connected.

And so, after just a few more minutes of walking without saying a word, we arrived in front of a relatively normal door. However, beyond the door, I could feel an incredible amount of energy, belonging to both the saviors as well as the retainers, which I assumed were all Demon Kings.

Wilhelm let out a slight chuckle upon seeing my reaction and, without wasting another second, confidently pushed the door open.
