Transmigrated As The Final Villain of a Death Game-Chapter 222: The Gala [ 9 ]
Dark purple lances and swords filled the sky, drowning out all the clouds and inflicting despair on everyone who was down in the palace.
No one believed they could survive attacks of such caliber, especially when those attacks came from a powerhouse such as Alexius.
Yet despair was far from their concerns, as the circling demons who clawed at their flesh and corrupted their bodies were also something to worry about.
But amongst those people who despaired, there was Clementine.
She was also in the sky, floating just a few meters away from Alexius. There were hundreds of Soul Knights and Soul Mages behind her. Some of them were pure demons who had their souls corrupted and demonic cores hijacked.
There were also some nobles in the mix who, although not as powerful as the demons or the Soul Knights, had unique Gifts that made them perfect for support. They were especially useful after Clementine enhanced them with her Soul Sewing Needle.
And now, as she stood face to face with Alexius, her nails slightly bleeding, she only felt regret.
After all... despite all her efforts, the emperor had lost an arm, and even with her rapid healing and Melina’s reality warping, the emperor had entered a coma.
...It was uncertain if he would wake up.
Anyhow...
"You should back down now, Clementine Noir. This battle does not concern you."
Clementine scoffed.
"Actually, it does. Matter of fact, I’m not even fighting because I want to protect the emperor. I just want to beat your ass because of what you did to Amon."
Alexius tilted his head.
"What I did to Amon? What is it that I did? Make him stronger? Make him more resilient? Had I not done what I did, the two of you would’ve never had the confidence to come back and stand before me."
"Mmm... Is that so..."
I had listened to their brief conversation from afar, but I felt like that was enough. Hence why I teleported to my lightning behind Alexius and now glared at him from behind.
He had heard my words too, and so he turned around. For the first time ever, his face portrayed some semblance of confusion.
"Why are you here? I thought William said you’re not going to be participating?"
"Am I participating? I promised I wouldn’t go after the demons or people who are going after the emperor."
I tilted my head slightly and glanced down.
"As you can see, the demons are still trying to kill the emperor. And whatever mercenaries you hired are doing their best too. As for you and a few demons out in the outskirts, you’re not exactly a part of this anymore, you know that?"
Alexius narrowed his eyes.
"What do you think William will say once he hears about this?"
Hearing that, I let out a chuckle and exchanged a glance with Clementine. Then, I slowly floated up to Alexius, stopping just a meter away.
We were both within killing range of one another, and yet...
"Alexius... You say that, but that’d only be possible on the off chance you come out of here alive."
I reached for the sword on my waist and brandished it leisurely.
"Don’t you agree, Alexius?"
He just stared at me for a few moments, then let out a sigh.
Finally, all of the swords and lances that had been in the sky suddenly vanished. Instead, each of them went back into Alexius’s body, increasing the intensity of his energy several-fold. In just a few seconds, he was practically unrecognizable. But I knew that whatever gimmick he was using was something I could deal with, as long as Clementine’s right there behind me.
"Amon Everness. As you are one of the most important pieces of the puzzle, I will give you the chance to back away now. Otherwise, I will not hesitate to kill you, even if I receive reprimand later."
A faint smile tugged at my lips as I found him rather humorous.
But then again, he was Alexius. A being who, under no circumstance, could be underestimated.
And so with that in mind, I decided to make the first move.
The space around my blade suddenly distorted as it moved at a ridiculous speed toward Alexius’s neck. Right as it was about to make contact, I increased the weight of my blade by several hundred tons.
It was as though I was dropping a large skyscraper on top of him.
And yet, to my sudden attack, Alexius reacted nonchalantly. He raised one of his hands and caught my blade effortlessly. But even though it looked completely effortless, the space around his neck seemingly shattered.
It was my first time seeing something like this.
Just a large portal-like crack in the sky that continued to expand. Yet instead of stars and planets being in that spatial crack, there were thousands, if not millions, of miniature eyes.
Much like the ones that belonged to Rachel.
...Eldritch Eyes?
Could there be more than 5 Eldritch beings that exist?
Before I could ponder over it for any longer, the eyes that had filled that spatial crack vanished. What replaced them was my earlier expectation of endless cosmos and beautiful stars.
Not for long though, as the spatial crack lasted for only a brief fraction of a second before vanishing.
What followed was a dark purple beam of light that burst forward from Alexius’s hand, headed straight for my face.
But the attack was very slow thanks to my Telekinetic Control Field.
My blade returned and slashed the dark purple beam in half, dispersing all of its energy much like what happened back in his office.
It was clear I could counter him.
And he seemed to realize that too.
But for some reason, Alexius continued tossing the same attack over and over again. For a moment, I thought that he was just being stupid. Yet when I saw a faint crack forming on my nearly indestructible katana, I realized that he had just been trying to chip me down all this time.
So with that in mind, I decided to finally quit trying to test him, and instead, I reappeared beside Clementine. By now, she had healed completely, and although her energy was a little drained, it didn’t matter much.
After all, from here on out, we’ll both be going all out.
