Transmigrated As The Final Villain of a Death Game-Chapter 116: The Train Encounter [ 1 ]
"This one!"
"This one too..."
"How about we get our fortune read too?"
Clementine...
She was like a child.
She exchanged 330 Gold coins into 330,000 Crowns, which was the currency here.
They were all paper bills, thankfully.
Even then, within just half an hour of getting all that money, Clementine had already bought several dresses, shoes for both of us, food... and we were down to 315,000 Crowns.
Basically, this was the equivalent of spending 15,000 dollars.
It was pretty bad.
I spoil her too much.
"Today’s pretty busy. Let’s go reserve some good cabin seats instead."
She pouted and gently pounded my chest, acting cute and insistent.
As much as I wanted to give in... There was a reason why I was against it.
Divination is not a very rare Gift, and as it so happens, the fortune readers get a few fragments of our memories when doing these divinations.
Personally, I didn’t want some random person to know about all the knowledge I had.
And since Clementine was now in on that knowledge...
"No means no."
With that, I took her hand and began slowly taking us to the train station.
Although she was a little mad at first, she soon got over it.
She glanced around a little, and a confused look appeared on her face.
"What’s up with the amount of priests? There’s so many of them everywhere."
I met Clementine’s gaze and sighed.
"This continent is pretty religious, but none of those people are actually priests."
"Then...?"
"If you’re homeless or in need of money, you put on some rags and beg people."
Although it may seem pathetic, this wasn’t that bad of a side gig.
Sitting on the street for a solid 9-5 would earn a beggar at least 200 Crowns.
They could buy groceries for a month with that much.
"Real priests wear fancy clothes. So far, I’ve only seen two actual priests."
She seemed impressed and interested.
And I was happy I could share a bit more of my knowledge with her, even if it was something as boring as how this continent worked.
There were plenty more things we could do in this city, but then again... if we didn’t board the train now, then we’d need to wait another week or take the long route via a carriage.
But then again, this continent was massive.
There were so many more interesting places, one of which was the Harper Citadel.
We eventually arrived at the train station, paid 25 Crowns each for our tickets, and boarded the train.
It was one of those trains that had mini room cabins that could seat four people.
Since we didn’t get any sort of instructions, we just picked one of the cabins in the middle, locked ourselves inside, and finally sat down opposite each other.
We would’ve sat down beside each other, but she wanted a window seat, and so did I.
Anyhow...
"This is pretty interesting. I’ve never seen something like this on the other continents," she said.
"Yeah, Elodrenia and the Skyward continent would much rather use carriages than build a railroad. They’re a bunch of magic-obsessed idiots."
Clementine let out a chuckle and glanced out of the window at the crowd of people.
"It’s refreshing to see everyone acting so normal. Even in Lenice, there are people running around the streets, using their Gifts and causing so many problems."
I leaned my head against the window.
"Do you want to move here?"
"Move here...? I’m not sure."
She leaned her head against the window as well, then met my gaze.
"I kind of like the life we have in our small home. Moving here, with so many demons and Evangelists running around, it feels a little too dangerous. I don’t think I could sleep peacefully."
"I see..."
I thought so as well.
As it stood, we were both nearly Grade 40.
While that was pretty high and it would put us on the level of the paladins, we were still nowhere near the level of the strongest people here.
So I didn’t push that topic further.
Another half an hour flew by in the blink of an eye.
The train began to move, and soon enough, we left the station.
"Want a pillow?" I offered.
She raised a brow.
"You’re going to sleep?"
"...You aren’t?"
A slight pout appeared on her face.
"It’s my first time on a train, and I’ve never even visited this place before. I’m not sleeping."
"Fair enough."
I guess I’m not sleeping either.
***
We left the port city in the early morning, and by the time we reached the third town, it was already dark out.
Also, Clementine kind of fell asleep after just an hour because of how boring it was.
I didn’t sleep since I felt someone watching me for the last couple of hours.
After using my Mystic Eyes, I realized it was someone in the cabin right behind me.
I didn’t feel any malice, so I’m a little curious what they want from me.
Since we still have one more town to go, I guess I should find out.
I quietly stood up, unlocked the door, and closed it, making sure not to wake Clementine.
Then, I approached the cabin that was beside ours and knocked twice.
No one replied.
But right as I extended my hand to knock again, I felt something cold press against the back of my head.
CLICK
"You smell like a demon."
I was a little surprised at how he managed to get behind me.
But I quickly realized that the person behind me wasn’t actually there.
He didn’t emit any energy.
As for the gun... The barrel wouldn’t even be able to get within one inch of my head if this wasn’t anything but an illusion.
So I decided to play his game.
I placed my hand on his cabin’s door and, using Telekinesis, unlocked it and stepped inside.
There was only one middle-aged man wearing a dark coat.
Though his flintlock pistol was pointed right at my head.
I ignored his weapon, maintained my composure, and sat down opposite him.
"You can lower your weapon, you know?"
He didn’t listen to me.
Rolling my eyes, I crossed my legs and stared at him straight in the eyes.
"What do you want from me?"
