Transmigrated As The Final Villain of a Death Game-Chapter 117: The Train Encounter [ 2 ]
The two of us stared at each other for what felt like minutes.
That was until the man in front of me finally lowered his flintlock pistol and stashed it away inside his coat.
"I apologize. It seems like I’ve mistaken you for a demon."
He’s a little too tactful.
"Are you a noble?"
"I’m not. I’m a mercenary."
A mercenary who speaks like a noble, that’s rare.
But odds are, he’s not really a mercenary.
I used my Mystic Eyes to look into his coat.
To my surprise, the inner part of his coat was filled with all sorts of long-range weapons, close-range weapons, grenades, and even some random utility items.
He really was decked out.
"You should probably go back to your own cabin. It’s a little stuffy in here."
"Mmm... I would love to, but I have to ask. What made you think I was a demon?"
His eyes narrowed.
"All demons smell like death. I thought you were one too, but it looks like you’ve just killed a lot of people instead."
I let out a chuckle.
"And that doesn’t worry you one bit?"
"I don’t care about crazy people. You’ll get yourself killed by someone else. I only care about demons."
Huh.
I guess he has some kind of grudge against them.
Although I know I shouldn’t snoop around...
"Are you getting off at the next stop?"
I couldn’t help but feel like meeting this guy wasn’t a coincidence.
But it seemed like I used up all of his patience.
"You’re nosy and annoying. Leave my cabin or you’ll sabotage my mission."
Ouch.
Well, if he didn’t want to share, I couldn’t help it.
I went back to my cabin, and left his cabin’s door open out of pettiness.
Still, since I didn’t feel his gaze anymore, I closed my eyes and decided to get some sleep.
But sadly, my peaceful sleep only lasted less than half an hour as I was woken up by a particular sound.
BANG!
SCREEEEEEEEEECH!
BOOOOOOOOM!
The whole train abruptly shook, and when I glanced out of the window, I saw sparks flying.
Only then did I realize that the train had derailed and the front cabins had flipped.
SCREEEEEEECH!
"AAAAAAAAAAH!"
Screams rang out from the nearby cabins, but since I had glued myself to my seat with Telekinesis, I barely budged an inch.
Clementine was the same, though she had woken up already.
"What’s happening...?"
"I think the friend I made earlier is blowing up the train," I answered.
She rubbed her temples in annoyance.
"Should we just stand by?"
I glanced through the window, and the next thing I knew, I saw a giant boulder fly straight toward us.
BOOOOOOOOOM!
The giant boulder crashed into our cabin and split the entire train in two.
Still rooted to our seats, we deadpanned as we were suddenly launched hundreds of meters into the sky before finally tumbling down toward a formation of sharp rocks.
The rocks shattered when they made contact with our bodies, and in the end, I cushioned our fall with Telekinesis.
We weren’t hurt at all.
It was almost comical how little danger we were in.
And yet, as I sat upright and glanced toward the train, my eyes widened.
The train was split into several parts, and the cabins were littered everywhere.
Not only that, there were some people who weren’t as lucky as us, and so the boulders and flying cabins crushed them.
In the front of the train, however, there was a massive hole, and beyond that, a giant rock formation which was also missing a large chunk, almost like someone had blasted a hole through both at once.
And I didn’t need to be a genius to figure out that the man I had met earlier was responsible for this whole mess.
RUMBLE!
But clearly, the mess wasn’t over.
The giant rock formation toppled over and split in midair before ultimately hurtling directly onto what was left of the front of the train, killing anyone who was inside.
"..."
"Why did no one use their Gifts?" Clementine mumbled.
"I mean... They could’ve survived if at least one of them activated their Gift, right?"
I pointed to the other side of the train.
There were at least 30 people there.
"The smart ones used their Gifts and escaped. The people who would rather die than break the rules, well... they died."
"How tragic..."
That it was.
But it was even more tragic how I was growing used to seeing such violence.
At least a few hundred people died just now.
And yet, I didn’t even feel a shred of remorse for them.
I need to hurry up and finish our mission so I can pay a visit to a great healer.
Otherwise, I’ll never really know what’s wrong with me.
With those thoughts in mind, Clementine and I hiked back down our small mountain and jogged over to the front of the train that had been crushed.
I knew there wouldn’t be any survivors here, but I did know who would be there...
And when I saw the silhouette of the man I met earlier, I knew I came to the right place.
Seeing us approaching him, he turned around and aimed his flintlock pistol at me again.
Just this time, I matched his energy and pulled out my sniper.
"Couldn’t you have destroyed the train a little closer to the town?"
He placed his finger on the trigger.
"The conductor was a demon."
"Then why’d you wait so long before killing him?"
I really didn’t get this guy.
He had some messed up sense of justice.
Or was it even justice?
I do remember him mentioning a mission.
Right as he was about to answer me, he was rudely interrupted.
CLAP CLAP CLAP
The sound of someone clapping caught all our attention.
When I turned to the side, I saw a white-haired man happily approaching us.
Yet his crimson eyes didn’t quite match his happy demeanor, as they were cold and filled with malice.
"Good job, Vincent. You’re one step closer to..."
The man glanced over at us and tilted his head.
"Ah, more capable people. Would you two like to accompany us up north? We’re planning to stop by the Harlot Citadel tomorrow. I have some business I need to take care of."
Harper Citadel?
But putting that aside, although he wasn’t using even a tiny bit of his energy, he seemed incredibly powerful.
Much more powerful than me, Clementine, or this old man who goes by the name Vincent.
Seeing how Clementine was also glaring at him, she seemed to recognize it too.
But as the tension grew further, it all vanished with a simple chuckle from him.
"Now now, both of you put down your pea shooters. I’ve got some carriages coming to pick us up in just a few minutes."
"Is that so..."
I stashed my sniper away.
"Then we’ll accept the kind gesture. We’re also heading toward the Harper Citadel, you see."
"Oh? Then I’m happy to have you. My name’s Kai."
He approached me and extended his hand.
"And yours?"
Even though I didn’t want to, I knew it’s best not to get on this guy’s bad side, at least not yet.
"I’m Mikael."
Kai let out a chuckle.
"A fake name just like mine. I believe we’ll become very great friends~"
Yeah...
I don’t think so.
