Chapter 111: Setting Out To The Western Continent [ 1 ]

I sat on the sidewalk in front of Clementine’s new private library, waiting patiently until she stepped out.

I didn’t really want to intrude like last time, since... well, yeah.

Though while I waited, I glanced over at my status screen and smiled at my progress.

Alongside Telekinesis, The Demon King of Wrath’s Blood went up significantly.

My stats increased a tad bit too, so I jumped up to Grade 38.

Not a big difference, but with my current powers, I felt like I could take on the Inquisitor by myself and possibly win.

Though as I was lost in my thoughts, the doors to the library opened up, and Clementine carefully stepped outside.

Her gaze landed on me.

"Are we ready to leave?"

"We are. I was just waiting for you to finish."

Her brows twitched.

Only then did I realize what I said.

Avoiding her glare, I stood up, dusted myself off, and nodded at her.

"Let’s go straight to the assassin’s guild."

Without waiting for her answer, I blasted into the sky and began flying toward Lenice.

She flew behind me.

It was a beautiful morning as always.

Just today, most of the snow had melted.

Spring is coming soon.

And that also meant the descent of the demons was nearing.

Shaking my head in frustration, I landed in front of Lenice’s library, and alongside Clementine, we approached Rio, who was busy reading a book.

But when he noticed us, he stood up.

"You’re here right on time. I sent the report to the higher-ups a few minutes ago, so I’m sure they’ll show up soon."

"Alright. Also, since Evangeline and I are here, could you tell us our bounties?" I asked.

Rio tilted his head slightly.

"I believe the bounties have increased since the last time I checked them. Give me a moment."

He went into the back room.

I heard a little bit of fiddling around from the inside, but once it was over, Rio stepped out with a slightly pale face.

"Uhh... The bounty did increase a-a little."

"How little?"

Rio took a deep breath.

"You now have a bounty of 150 Platinum bars each. T-That’s 150,000 Gold coins each. It was only 50 Platinum bars yesterday, so the increase is definitely drastic."

My eyes widened slightly.

I had figured the bounty was high if even the Asura himself came for us.

But definitely not this high.

Judging from Clementine’s nonchalant expression, it seemed like she hadn’t realized just how much that is.

Before I could inform her, the library’s door swung open as Johan stepped inside, glaring at Clementine and me.

"You two have made a mess again."

I straightened and met his gaze.

"We sadly couldn’t avoid a few extra casualties. For that, we apologize."

Johan scoffed.

"You think this is a joke, but it isn’t. The Assassin’s Guild isn’t the only organization that deals in assassinations. There are plenty of bounty hunter organizations who’ll stop at nothing to hunt you down just to collect your bounties."

Oh?

The Johan was worried about our safety?

How uncharacteristic of him.

"It’s fine. We can take care of ourselves. On another note... I wish to put in a request for a special mission."

Caught off guard by my sudden request, Johan nodded, listening patiently.

"Give us a mission to investigate a Marquess or a Duke-ranked demon."

A Marquess-ranked demon was between Grade 40-50.

Whereas a Duke-ranked demon was between 50-60.

Just one rank shy from demonic royalty.

But these were the kind of bigshots I needed to target if I wanted to have a brighter future.

And after a thorough talk, Clementine and I agreed to do this.

"You want a request like that at your level? Overestimating yourselves could lead to death. As experienced mercenaries, you should know that."

As I was about to respond, Clementine stepped in.

"With all due respect, I’m at Grade 36 and Mikael is Grade 38. With our strengths combined, we can easily take down a Grade 50."

She narrowed her eyes.

"Either agree to our request or we’ll leave the Assassin’s Guild."

For a moment, Johan looked stunned.

But after glancing between me and Clementine, he began ruffling his own hair in frustration.

"You two are nothing but trouble..."

"Though, whether by coincidence or fate, there just so happens to be a mission available."

He turned to Rio, who then nodded in understanding and entered the back room.

After that, Johan took out a folder from his dimensional ring and handed it to me.

I flipped it open, and in an instant, I felt as though I hit a jackpot.

▷Demon Subjugation Mission

Location: Western Continent / Harper Citadel

Description: One of our alarms has picked up on a Demon Marquess sighting. It was spotted leaving the Harper Citadel at nightfall. We lost its trace, but a high-ranked demon sighting is very peculiar, so I, the Arch Priest Fivien, formally request the Assassin Guild’s assistance in locating the Demon Marquess and bringing its foul soul to justice.

The Western continent and the Harper Citadel.

I wasn’t sure which one to be more surprised by.

Getting a formal request from that continent... This really is serious.

But why exactly did they ask the help of the Assassin’s Guild?

The churches had paladins and templars.

They could literally snap their fingers, and 1,000 Grade 40 paladins would show up to deal with the issue.

Unless... The Arch Priest has a reason to not call upon them.

How suspicious...

I turned to Clementine.

"What do you think?"

"Seems fishy. But with your..."

She coughed, almost slipping up.

Of course, she meant my eyes.

I was basically the best detective with these Mystic Eyes.

So Clementine and I discussed it for a little while longer until finally turning to Johan.

"We’ll do it."
