Tokyo: My Superpower Refreshes Every Week-Chapter 454 - 452: Rest Assured, Sir, There Are No Injuries_1
Lightning ravaged the sky. After a series of deafening booms, Paradise Island returned to silence.
Soledad stood on a path bathed in golden light. Charred corpses were visible everywhere, and the air was filled with the sickeningly sweet scent of burnt flesh.
Even those who hid in buildings couldn’t escape being struck by lightning. She, however, was unharmed.
Soledad looked down at her limbs, and tears welled in her eyes. If she could avoid death, she naturally didn’t want to descend to Hell with those wicked people.
The Thunderous Giant that had obscured the sky vanished.
Dim stars and a shining round moon appeared over Paradise Island. She tilted her head upward, feeling incredibly surprised.
Was that an envoy sent by God?
Soledad had thought she understood this world, but the scene before her seemed to tell her otherwise. She was still very far from grasping the nature of the world. This world was far beyond her imagination.
Soledad walked forward and saw Walter lying by the roadside. His charred face couldn’t hide his terrified expression; faint, evaporated traces of tears and snot were visible.
She let out a gleeful laugh, wiping tears from the corners of her eyes, and skipped away.
Along the road, she gradually found others who had suffered the same fate—men and women.
The Thunderous Giant had only slain the adults attending the banquet and the staff assisting them.
People like her, who had endured the same ordeal, were all unharmed.
Everyone gathered, none knowing what to do next. They simply clustered together instinctively, staring at each other.
While everyone was perplexed, a roaring sound came from the sky. Three transport helicopters and six armed helicopters appeared in the star-dotted night sky.
Soledad huddled with a little girl she knew, seeking a sliver of safety.
The three transport helicopters didn’t land but dropped rappelling ropes, allowing the U.S. Army soldiers to descend quickly. The other six armed helicopters patrolled the sky.
Johnny Arther was the commander of this Flying Eagle Operation. He was a typical hero type who enjoyed adventure and excitement, always preferring to be on the front lines.
He was the first to jump to the ground. His eyes swept over the bodies on the street. "What the hell happened here?! Hey, Gadley, spread out into squads and search for any injured who need help."
Squads of armed soldiers quickly fanned out through the streets, searching for casualties.
Johnny approached Soledad and the others. Looking at their attire and remembering this was the Hunter family’s private island, he understood what had happened.
A flash of annoyance crossed Johnny’s eyes as he muttered, "FARK, those bastards!"
The orders were to rescue these scumbags, and he was reluctant. If any were still alive, he’d find an excuse to kill them off later.
"Don’t be afraid," Johnny said, trying to sound reassuring. "We’ll take you to a safe place, back to your families."
His words didn’t ease the tension on their faces.
He wasn’t in a rush, patiently waiting, using the promise of returning home to coax them into explaining what had happened.
A Giant Dragon? A Thunderous Giant? Two fighter jets crashed...
Johnny’s face was etched with shock. He had come here in response to an emergency distress signal from the island.
The Hunter family’s island was significant enough to draw the U.S. Army’s attention.
But this rescue mission was proving far more difficult than he had imagined.
Reports from Gadley and others crackled continuously over the walkie-talkie. The names of the prominent figures found dead made Johnny break out in a cold sweat.
This incident involved the mysterious Different World.
Johnny’s heart pounded, fearing another Thunderous Giant might suddenly emerge from the sea or elsewhere on the island.
Yet, despite his fear, he didn’t leave.
Not until Gadley reported that, aside from the victims they’d found, there were no other living people on the island.
He breathed a sigh of relief and radioed his superiors.
"General Loel, aside from the victims we’ve gathered, there are no other survivors on Paradise Island. According to them, they first saw a crimson Giant Dragon, larger than the island itself, emerge from the sea. Its breath engulfed two fighter jets, and then it disappeared. Afterward, a giant formed of lightning appeared and killed everyone present, including Hunter and his people."
"What?!" Loel exclaimed, then quickly regained his composure. "I see. Deploy your men to secure the island. I’ll discuss how to proceed with the higher-ups."
This event involved too many influential people. Loel knew the dispatch of F-35 fighters to Paradise Island couldn’t be covered up, but that was a secondary concern. The urgent matter was how to handle an incident of this magnitude—one that could shake the United States to its core. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
He hung up and dialed Air Force One. The call connected after two rings.
"General Loel, what is it?"
"Mr. President, I have an urgent situation to report."
Loel relayed the information, tactfully implying the two F-35 jets had been on a live-fire training exercise and had coincidentally stopped at Paradise Island.
"Is that so?" Nett wasn’t concerned about that minor detail. He was preoccupied with how to manage the aftermath, relieved he hadn’t accepted Alexei’s invitation.
Those fools, he thought, so clueless. Gathering for a banquet at such a dangerous time.
He was both afraid and annoyed. It was clear this incident couldn’t be made public.
After last time’s public admission about the Different World and Monsters, coupled with the legend of David, the Saint Heir, New York was already slipping from his control.
If something like this happened again, it would further destabilize the existing order.
Nett’s power stemmed from America’s existing order and the public’s reverence for it.
If the populace realized that even those at the top were vulnerable, the consequences would be dire.
The shackles of class must never be broken.
"Tell the U.S. Army on the island to maintain strict secrecy.
"Publicly, we’ll claim we discovered Hunter was conducting illegal business on the island.
"Before the law, everyone is equal; no one in the United States enjoys special privileges!
"We dispatched the U.S. Army to the island, and a fierce battle ensued.
"Realizing his defeat, a desperate Hunter set fire to the buildings, choosing self-immolation, which resulted in numerous casualties.
"We successfully rescued those children."
Nett finished, his head throbbing as he rubbed his temples. "That’s the general idea. First, have the troops on the island start fires to burn the place down. Then, I’ll arrange media interviews. Pick someone reliable and make sure they memorize the press release."
"Understood. I’ll assign it to someone reliable immediately."
Loel hung up, knowing he had narrowly averted disaster.
「Tokyo, Phoenix Academy.」
Archery targets were set up on the spacious lawn.
Kochou, enjoying some rare free time, was practicing archery with Phoenix Academy Maggie.
The bright afternoon sun shone down on them.
She wore a Kyudo uniform with a chest protector, which felt stuffy, and sweat accumulated noticeably beneath it.
But Kochou didn’t use an umbrella. She believed that accurately aiming and shooting in such conditions was a form of mental training.
To be troubled by the heat and miss the target was a sign of weak willpower.
A truly strong-willed person could lie in ice and snow and still pull the trigger with precision when the time came. That required terrifying willpower, something ordinary people couldn’t achieve.
But to lead a vast conglomerate, one had to achieve what ordinary people could not.
She aimed at the target. Sweat dripped from her forehead into her eyes, but her gaze didn’t flicker, remaining fixed on the target as her fingers relaxed.
The arrow precisely struck the bullseye fifty meters away.
A hint of satisfaction appeared in Kochou’s eyes as she glanced at Phoenix Academy Maggie.
The girl’s expression was equally determined, seemingly untroubled by the sweat trickling down her forehead.
She stared at the target, drawing the bowstring into a full moon. Her fingers relaxed, and the arrow whistled out, accurately hitting the bullseye.
Witnessing this, Kochou said with satisfaction, "Maggie, well done."
"Mother, isn’t that to be expected?"
Phoenix Academy Maggie’s reply brought a smile to Kochou’s face. "You’re right."
The Butler behind them answered a call and quickly approached. "Madame, there’s been an incident on Paradise Island."
Kochou turned, a slight frown on her face. "What happened?"
"We just received word. The U.S. Army suddenly stormed Paradise Island, citing human trafficking, arms smuggling, and illegal drugs, engaging in a fierce battle with the island’s defenders.
"Mr. Hunter, seeing no way out, reportedly set himself on fire, igniting a blaze. A total of fifty-two notables from various sectors were implicated. The media is calling it the largest criminal syndicate in history!"
Kochou’s expression remained unchanged. She turned to Maggie. "What’s your take on this?"
Phoenix Academy Maggie frowned slightly. "Hunter is the head of the Texas consortium. How could the U.S. Army just land on his island and attack him like that? There must be a deeper reason."
"Exactly." And the only thing that would make the United States cover up something like this must be related to the Different World. Dio’s doing, perhaps?
Kochou murmured to herself, not ruling out other Angel Envoys.
The world had been restless lately.
Yet, at such a critical time, the United States was unwilling to share intelligence. This created divisions between countries, making it impossible to consolidate their strength.
Of course, Kochou understood why the United States acted this way.
As the nation with the most intelligence, Nett naturally wanted to use it to gain an advantage regarding the Different World.
But as a party with less intelligence, Kochou preferred the United States to make all its information public, holding no secrets.
"Maggie, continue your archery practice. I need to attend to some matters."
Kochou decided to first discuss the Paradise Island incident with Iwasaki and the others to discern the truth.
She wasn’t in a hurry to activate her own channels to find the truth.
Actively choosing to do something versus being compelled to do it were entirely different matters.
She would wait for Iwasaki and the others to beg her to use her contacts in the United States.
That way, regardless of whether she ultimately obtained any information, Iwasaki and the others would owe her a favor.
Adult relationships weren’t strengthened by sincerity but by constant calculation, ensuring that mutual bonds became unbreakable.
"Yes," Phoenix Academy Maggie replied. She really wanted to see Aozawa soon; she had so much to tell him.
