Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 44: Endure the Disgust for Me
"The watch he’s wearing is a Patek Philippe, worth one and a half million."
Winston Valentine touched the teacup by his side again, "This set of purple clay teapots is crafted by a master, the price shouldn’t be less than a million, and this redwood table and chairs, made from Dalbergia odorifera, are of top-quality materials, at least over a million."
Simon Warren comes from a poor family, and according to him, has only been practicing medicine for two years, so it’s indeed impossible for him to accumulate such wealth. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Vera Yves carefully observed the lounge again, there was a bookshelf next to it with many medical books on it.
Vera picked up a few books and briefly looked through them; they were all very standard Chinese medicine books.
After grandpa got older, he gradually couldn’t handle the clinic, coupled with father focusing solely on business, he simply closed the pharmacy.
Many who came to look for grandpa were seriously ill, their family’s money was almost exhausted from medical expenses, so grandpa prescribed for free, doing some routine treatment.
He treated many patients, curing some and failing to cure others.
Until someone died after being "treated" by grandpa, and the patient’s family dragged banners to protest outside the clinic, she still remembered how those people looked like they wanted to devour someone, starkly different from their pitiable appearance when they begged grandpa for treatment.
Later, the Yves Family called the police, and those people were taken away, originally thought the truth would soon come to light, but then more people came one after another.
They accused grandpa’s prescriptions of having problems, and said his acupuncture had issues, claiming grandpa treated them for free because he was using them as test subjects.
The situation escalated, some family members did an autopsy but couldn’t prove a direct link between the patient’s death and grandpa.
Yet, those people wouldn’t let grandpa go.
They threw rotten eggs and wilting leaves at the clinic entrance, dragged banners.
Grandpa had no choice but to close the clinic doors.
She didn’t understand why treating for free could become a reason to attack grandpa.
Grandpa seemed to age ten years overnight.
She cried while hugging grandpa, saying she would never let him treat people again.
Grandpa just smiled and patted her head, "Silly girl, these people just couldn’t think straight after losing a loved one, caught in a blind alley."
Even at that time, grandpa never complained.
Vera’s eyes grew wet, she snapped out of it and wiped the corners of her eyes, Winston Valentine stood behind her at some point, "Instead of waiting here, why not take a walk outside?"
Vera turned towards him, he had faint dark circles under his eyes, had he really not slept all night? Then why did he accompany her here?
Vera had wanted to take a walk anyway, nodded, Winston Valentine naturally held her hand, and Vera tried to pull away but couldn’t.
"When you’re out, it’s best not to show your emotions on your face." Winston Valentine tightened his grip on her hand and whispered in her ear, "Letting others see we’re not on good terms as a couple isn’t ideal."
The two walked out hand in hand, attracting the attention of many.
The clinic looked ordinary from the outside but had a hidden world within, with a dedicated pharmacy, decoction room. The two walked to the backyard, where a small hill of decoction residues piled up.
Vera walked over, opened and checked carefully.
"Woof woof woof!" A dog’s bark almost made Vera fall, luckily Winston Valentine caught her in time.
A middle-aged man leading a Doberman scolded, "You can’t just wander into the backyard! Hurry out!"
Winston Valentine took a look at the man, then led Vera out.
"This clinic isn’t simple." Winston Valentine looked around at the environment, there was surveillance in every corner, the backyard had many tire marks, Simon Warren must have other businesses to accumulate such wealth.
"Luke Shaw said he met Simon Warren while procuring medicinal materials." Vera looked at Winston Valentine, "I specifically checked the map, five kilometers away from this village is a deep mountain, there should be many precious herbs in the mountains."
Noticing footsteps, Winston Valentine tightened his hold on Vera’s hand.
Simon Warren walked over urgently, seeing the two holding hands, his eyes flickered, "President Valentine, Vera, the meal is ready, let’s go eat."
Winston Valentine raised his brow, changing the address so quickly, his investigation speed was impressive.
The dishes Simon Warren prepared were abundant, treating Winston Valentine warmly, offering precious wine from his collection, Winston Valentine refused with the excuse of needing to drive later.
Simon Warren drank alone, ending up crying bitterly, kept praising Old Mr. Yves to Vera, regretting not having the chance to repay his teacher’s kindness.
After playing the emotion card, Simon Warren wiped his face, "I’ve arranged a guest room for you to rest, go back after resting."
His hint to leave was quite clear.
Vera watched his silhouette more convinced that she could find something from him.
The two arrived at the guest room, Vera received a call from Linda Young, she was nearing Corvid, estimated to arrive in over two hours, "I heard from Zeke Sterling that you left with a man?"
"It’s Winston Valentine."
"The dog change its ways?" Linda Young’s voice was loud, the guest room was quiet, Vera feared Winston Valentine would hear her and went outside, "He’s on a business trip to Corvid, happened to come along with me."
"Just the two of you?"
"Mm."
Linda Young was puzzled, Cecilia Vaughn was still hospitalized, yet Winston Valentine traveled thousands of miles to find Vera? It’s like the sun rising in the west.
Vera returned to the room, just closed the door, and was confronted by Winston Valentine, "Dog man?"
Vera felt a bit guilty.
"Do you usually curse at me like this when talking with friends?"
"I didn’t."
"Didn’t?" Winston Valentine moved closer to her, "Then why are you feeling guilty and avoiding eye contact with me?"
Hearing this, Vera lifted her head to look at him, trying to prove her innocence.
The next second, her lips were once again pressed by a kiss; Winston Valentine held her waist, picked her up and placed her on the bed, releasing her lips before she could prepare to bite.
"Born in the year of the dog, love to bite?"
"Winston Valentine, kissing a woman you dislike, doesn’t it disgust you?"
Winston Valentine’s eyes darkened, his long fingers caressing her lips, "So, kissing you, made you feel disgusted?"
Vera turned away, unwilling to answer.
"Even if it disgusts you, bear with it."
Lips were once again sealed with a kiss; Winston Valentine pinched her cheeks, making it impossible for her to bite.
The domineering kiss took away all her air.
An unapologetic kissing style solely aimed to leave a lasting impression.
After the kiss ended, Winston Valentine held her close, Vera gasped for air, cursed him a pervert in her heart but dared not anger him again, knowing he could do anything.
She didn’t know how much time had passed, when she heard the man’s deep breathing beside her.
Vera wanted to move his hand away, but even in deep sleep, his hand remained firmly locked on her.
If she didn’t know his heart was with Cecilia Vaughn, she might have mistaken him for really caring for her.
She hadn’t rested well last night either, thinking about it and closed her eyes.
She didn’t know how long it was until a sudden, urgent phone ringtone sounded.
The pressure on her body suddenly lifted, Vera opened her eyes.
Winston Valentine rubbed his temples and answered the call; Samantha Warren’s tearful voice came through, "Winston, Cecilia is missing! I sent people to search, but she can’t be found anywhere!"
"When?"
"This morning, she kept saying you’re mad at her for not visiting, and that you wanted to send her abroad. I comforted her a bit, thought it was fine, but after I went to see the doctor, came back and she was gone."
"I’m heading back immediately."
Winston Valentine hung up the phone, got up, and looked at Vera, "Come back with me now."
