Together Apart: Her White Moonlight Has Returned Too-Chapter 43: Not Once Have I Gained the Slightest Advantage
Vera Yves hadn’t yet recovered when Winston Valentine had already pulled her into the elevator. She withdrew her hand, deliberately standing a bit farther from him.
They arrived at the room.
Winston Valentine took off his coat and went into the bathroom.
Vera Yves charged her phone and finally noticed that the screen was cracked, and the back cover was also filled with cracks.
She had no choice but to remove the SIM card and put it into a new phone, logging back into WeChat.
The documents in her wallet were still there, but the cash was gone, saving her a lot of hassle.
Could the police have found her belongings? But she had left Linda Young’s contact information. How did her things end up with Winston Valentine?
Vera Yves changed her clothes and simply applied some light makeup. The bathroom door opened, and Winston Valentine walked out, wearing nothing but the pink towel she had brought around his waist.
The towel wasn’t large, but it was sufficient to cover the key areas.
Vera Yves stood up, looking straight ahead, "I have things to do and need to go out, make yourself at home."
Winston Valentine pulled her over, pushing her against the wall, his gaze falling on her glossy lips.
Vera Yves frowned at him, "I really have things to do, I don’t have time to deal with..."
Her lips were suddenly kissed. Vera Yves forcefully pushed him away, but Winston Valentine grabbed her waist, deepening the kiss.
Vera Yves tilted her head back, unable to push him away or escape.
His kiss wasn’t as domineering as usual; it carried a rare tenderness, intentionally leading her to surrender. But in Vera Yves’ mind flashed his disdainful gaze, and she fiercely bit his tongue.
The man let her go with a pain-filled groan.
Vera Yves turned her head away, her face cold, "Winston Valentine, have you figured out who I am? I married you through so much scheming, using filthy means to harm the woman you love. Does kissing me like this make Cecilia Vaughn proud?"
The pain in his tongue reminded him this wasn’t a dream.
Winston Valentine slowly calmed down and released her.
Vera Yves took her coat, intending to leave, but Winston Valentine blocked her way, "I’ll take you there."
Vera Yves’ voice was indifferent, "No need."
Zeke Sterling had arranged a driver for her, specifically to take her there.
"Is the place you’re going to remote? Are there cameras? Is the person you’re meeting good or bad? Do you know all this?" Winston Valentine looked down at her, his tone dismissive, "You can go alone, but if something happens, I won’t come to save you!"
Vera Yves turned her head away, no longer insisting. His words were harsh but true.
"Knock, knock, knock!"
Someone was at the door, and Winston Valentine opened it. Walter Lowell respectfully handed over the purchased clothes.
Winston Valentine didn’t even bring any luggage; why on earth did he come to Corvid?
Vera Yves called the driver to cancel the trip and went downstairs with Winston Valentine.
Winston Valentine got into the driver’s seat. Walter Lowell was a bit surprised, "President Valentine, you didn’t sleep last night..."
Winston Valentine massaged his temples, "Just over an hour, it’s fine, go do your work."
"Yes," Walter Lowell acknowledged, and before Vera Yves could open the back door, he enthusiastically opened the passenger door for her. Vera Yves hesitated for a few seconds before sitting inside and thanked Walter Lowell.
Walter Lowell replied respectfully, "No need to mention it, madam."
The car sped along the road.
Vera Yves leaned back in the seat, resting her eyes, clearly showing she didn’t want to talk to Winston Valentine.
Winston Valentine, following the GPS, drove the car onto a rural road that turned out to be a dead end. Beside it was an unpaved dirt path, clearly too narrow for the car to pass.
Winston Valentine turned off the car and asked disdainfully, "What are you doing in this godforsaken place?"
Vera Yves took out her phone to navigate again, "No one asked you to come with me."
Seeing her calm expression, Winston Valentine leaned back in his seat, annoyed, "Mrs. Valentine, you do like to complain even when getting a deal!"
"What deal have I gotten?" Vera Yves replied with a calm expression, "Did you come here specifically to see me?"
Winston Valentine’s expression grew a bit unnatural, "You wish. I’m here on a business trip."
She really couldn’t imagine what major business in Corvid would require the Valentine Group’s president to come personally.
But whatever he’s here for, it surely wouldn’t be for her.
"Then what deal have I gotten?" Vera Yves’ tone carried a hint of mockery, "President Valentine’s been smart, not letting me gain anything in these three years of marriage."
Hearing the sarcasm in her words, Winston Valentine resisted the urge to kick her out of the car.
Vera Yves found the route, and the GPS issued instructions. Winston Valentine started the car, and what was supposed to be a one-hour drive took over two hours.
Simon Warren’s clinic was in a village, quite humble, with a sign about half the height of a person at the entrance—The Jules Clinic.
Several cars were parked by the roadside, some with out-of-town plates. There were quite a few people queueing up inside the courtyard.
Vera Yves was thinking of calling Simon Warren’s assistant when Winston Valentine already had her by the wrist, leading her past the disdainful looks of people muttering, "This person cutting in line has no manners," into the inner hall.
Sitting behind a mahogany table was Simon Warren, in his forties, wearing a light gray traditional outfit, examining a patient with three assistants in lab coats beside him.
Vera Yves went straight to the mahogany table, "Senior, long time no see."
Simon Warren looked up, and upon seeing Vera Yves, was momentarily stunned before quickly regaining his composure, showing a joyful expression, "Vera!"
Vera Yves breathed a sigh of relief, glad he hadn’t pretended not to know her.
Simon Warren briefly instructed his assistants and walked up to Vera Yves, glancing at Winston Valentine. The strong aura emanating from him was slightly intimidating, "And this gentleman is?"
Vera Yves calmly replied, "He’s my husband, Winston Valentine." 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"Ah, Mr. Valentine, nice to meet you," Simon Warren politely extended his hand.
Winston Valentine shook it with little expression, "Nice to meet you."
Simon Warren led them to the lounge inside, "Vera, did you come specifically to find me?"
Vera Yves politely said, "We had business nearby, and I coincidentally heard that you were practicing medicine here, so we thought to drop by. My grandfather was thinking of you before he passed away. My father tried hard to find you but unfortunately couldn’t fulfill my grandfather’s wish before he died."
Simon Warren’s eyes turned red at her words, "It’s my fault. I was in a serious car accident on my way home that year, barely made it, and lay in bed for a year. My family also went through turmoil."
Simon Warren’s face showed sadness from past events, "Later, advised by a wise person, I changed my name and started anew, and things indeed went more smoothly."
Vera Yves’s eyes flickered, "So how long have you been practicing medicine here?"
Simon Warren smiled, "Over two years. Unfortunately, I couldn’t inherit my master’s superb medical skills, only learned five or six parts of it, just barely enough to provide for my family."
"Vera, you rest here for a while; I’ll finish seeing the patients and then we can have a proper chat." Simon Warren clearly didn’t wish to say more and got up to leave the lounge.
As the door closed, Winston Valentine casually remarked, "He’s lying."
Although Vera Yves also doubted him, she couldn’t help asking, "How can you tell?"
