Chapter 42: Chapter 42: You’re Hugging Me Too Tightly

Looking at her tearful eyes, Winston Valentine’s mind flashed with Vera Yves’s face, and he felt a bit irritated. He stood up, "Take a good rest, I’ll come to see you again when I have time."

As he walked out of the ward, Walter Lowell came up to him.

"President Valentine, these reports initially came from Gale Entertainment. The submission was from a small account. Based on the content of the submission, the person is well aware of Miss Six’s ordeal, even describing the kidnapping details."

Winston Valentine paused. Mark Yves almost went to jail because of the past events. Even if Vera Yves wanted to ruin Cecilia Vaughn, she shouldn’t bring up old affairs intentionally like this; a slight mistake and Mark could end up in jail again.

And only two people know the kidnapping details so clearly.

Winston Valentine was silent for a moment, glancing again at the ward, then said coldly, "Stop investigating this matter any further."

Walter Lowell was a bit surprised, "Yes."

Sitting in his car, Winston Valentine called Theodore Xavier, "For now, don’t take any action against The Yves Family."

Theodore Xavier clicked his tongue, "Why, aren’t you planning to divorce anymore?"

"When did I say I was going to divorce?"

"If you’re not divorcing, why are you playing around with The Yves Family? That small company won’t withstand your tricks. When it really collapses, your wife will cry and throw a tantrum. Can you handle it?"

"She wouldn’t." Winston Valentine rubbed his eyes. As Mrs. Valentine for these three years, if she really wanted to make a fuss, it wouldn’t be so dull.

"Even a cornered rabbit bites back," Theodore Xavier said earnestly, "If you’re not planning to divorce, just live well with her, stop messing around every day."

Winston Valentine irritably cut off the call.

In the evening, he returned to the villa, walked into the bedroom, and found it cold and empty.

It was past ten o’clock, and she still hadn’t returned.

Thinking she might be drinking with Zoe Monroe again, Winston Valentine took out his phone and dialed Vera Yves’s number. After a few rings, someone picked up.

"Hello, this is Corvid City Hospital. Are you a friend of the phone owner? The owner was in a serious car accident and is now being rescued in the emergency room..."

...

In Corvid City, after calling Linda Young, Vera Yves waited for someone to pick her up.

Vera Yves waited at the bus terminal for more than three hours. When night fell and she finally saw the man who came to get her, she was quite impressed with Linda Young.

The man’s name was Zeke Sterling, in his thirties, also a photographer. Most importantly, he was Linda Young’s ex-boyfriend, whom she always said should have been burned to ashes by now.

It’s known that Linda Young and this ex-boyfriend were passionately in love back in the day, but their breakup was also extremely bitter.

Zeke Sterling was quite frank, "Besides the phone and wallet, did you lose anything else?"

Vera Yves shook her head, "The luggage is still here."

"Let’s go, have dinner first, then we’ll help you buy a new phone."

The two went to a nearby restaurant for dinner and then went to the mall to buy a new phone. After getting a new SIM card, Vera Yves called Linda Young to say she was safe and couldn’t help but complain, "Why did you call Zeke Sterling?"

Linda Young sighed, "Who told you to go to such a far place? Our connections there are empty, and there’s really no one on hand now." Otherwise, she would never have contacted Zeke Sterling.

"Alright, for now, you can only rely on him, so don’t be too polite with him."

After hanging up, Vera Yves had dinner with Zeke Sterling, who then dropped her off at the hotel she booked in advance. "You really don’t want me to accompany you tomorrow?"

Simon Warren’s place was a small village in Corvid City, which took about an hour to get to from the city center by car.

"You’re here for work, you must have things to do. I’m fine alone. Linda Young will arrive in the afternoon."

Zeke Sterling handed her a bank card, "There’s fifty thousand on it, the password is Linda’s birthday, use it for emergencies."

Vera Yves took the card, "Thanks."

Zeke Sterling indeed had work the next day, so he gestured for Vera Yves to call if needed and turned to leave.

Vera Yves entered the room, placed her luggage, checked the time, and saw that it was already over ten o’clock at night. She called Hannah Hayes to say she was safe.

Upon hearing that she went to Corvid City, Hannah Hayes was worried, "What are you doing going so far alone? And why did you change your phone number? Where’s your previous phone?"

"I’m here to handle some personal matters. I lost my phone. If you want to contact me, call this number."

"You’ve never traveled so far alone before," Hannah Hayes complained, "and Winston Valentine really, how does he not know to send someone to protect you?"

Hannah Hayes continued to ramble on, and Vera Yves made a few responses before hanging up.

Thinking of Winston Valentine, Vera Yves turned over. When she left, she had informed the villa’s housekeeper of her whereabouts. Besides, his thoughts should be entirely on Cecilia Vaughn now; he wouldn’t care whether she was home or not.

After showering, Vera Yves lay on the bed. In the unfamiliar environment, she had no sense of security. The light was on all night, and her sleep was not restful.

After getting up and washing, she went to the hotel’s first-floor restaurant for breakfast. Just as she came out of the restaurant, she saw Winston Valentine at the hotel entrance.

He was wearing a deep blue coat, his hair slightly disheveled, and his handsome face carried a touch of fatigue, looking travel-worn.

And his gaze at her carried a deep meaning she couldn’t understand.

Could it be she rested poorly and was hallucinating?

How could Winston Valentine possibly be here?

As Vera Yves was about to leave, the man walked towards her with long strides and, as she wanted to retreat, he grabbed her head and pulled her into his arms.

He still carried a chill, and it was only when she detected the faint woody scent on his body that Vera Yves confirmed the man in front of her was no illusion.

In the hotel lobby, people were coming and going, and they all turned to look at the striking couple.

His embrace was tight and strong, as if he wanted to meld her into his body. Vera Yves could barely breathe and instinctively tried to push him away, "Winston Valentine, you... you’re hurting me."

Winston Valentine seemed to snap back to reality, slowly releasing her. His expression gradually returned to his usual indifference, and he asked coldly, "Do you have any awareness of being a married woman at all?"

Vera Yves frowned. Did this man show up at the hotel entrance early in the morning just to blame her? Did something happen with Cecilia Vaughn again?

Winston Valentine continued, "You went this far away, didn’t you need to inform me at all?"

If it weren’t for the fact that not long ago, he had spoken harshly to her because of the woman he loved, she might have thought he cared about her.

Vera Yves took a step back, calmly asked, "Do you care?"

Winston Valentine looked a bit uneasy, sneered, "Of course, I don’t care, but if something happens to you out there, would grandma let me off?"

"I already told the housekeeper at home before I left that I was coming to Corvid City," Vera Yves looked at him displeased, "Besides, I’m an adult. I just went out to meet someone; what could possibly happen?"

Winston Valentine took out her phone and wallet from his pocket and tossed them over, complaining, "You can’t even take a bus ride without losing your phone and wallet; what do you say might happen?"

Vera Yves caught the items and asked in surprise, "How did you get my things?"

"Found them," Winston Valentine said with a frown, "Take me to your room."
