Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Mrs. Valentine Wasn’t Here for Love

Vera Yves looked over and saw Winston Valentine standing at the door with a grim expression.

She withdrew her gaze, gave a few instructions to Linda Young, and then hung up the phone. The next second, her wrist was grabbed by someone.

Winston Valentine looked down at her, his voice as cold as ice, "What exactly do you intend to do?"

Vera Yves looked up at him, "Since President Valentine has already convicted me in his heart, naturally, whatever President Valentine thinks I want to do, that is exactly what I want to do!"

Winston Valentine looked at her sharp tongue and chuckled, "Do you think that with Grandma protecting you, I have no way to deal with you, so you’re being this arrogant!"

"Winston Valentine, the law convicts a person based on evidence, what basis do you have to treat me like this?" Vera Yves looked at him fearlessly, "Is it all based on personal likes and dislikes?"

"Besides you, who else detests her so much?"

"Why would I detest her?" Vera Yves sneered, "Because you like her? But your liking her doesn’t affect my position as Mrs. Valentine. Winston Valentine, do you think I schemed my way to becoming Mrs. Valentine just to talk about love with you?"

Winston Valentine was so angry he pinched her chin, "Vera Yves!"

Vera Yves’s eyes started to burn as she continued, "If you have the guts, divorce me, marry her, and protect her openly!"

Winston Valentine tightened his grip, "Provocation won’t work on me. I might just bring down The Yves Family, unless you think I’m all bark and no bite."

Vera Yves glared at him angrily, "If you dare touch The Yves Family, I’ll go to Grandma and have Cecilia Vaughn sent abroad!"

"You wouldn’t dare!"

"You can try!"

Winston Valentine sneered and let go, "No longer pretending to be the reasonable, enduring Mrs. Valentine?"

"That’s thanks to President Valentine’s good teaching." Vera Yves took a step back, "Grabbing someone’s weakness allows you to do whatever you want!"

"Then I’m afraid Mrs. Valentine will be disappointed, as I, Winston Valentine, have no weaknesses!" Winston Valentine gave her one more cold glance, "If you want to go against me, you’re far from being capable!"

Winston Valentine turned and left.

Vera Yves watched his back, her tightly clenched palms slowly loosening.

She certainly didn’t have the ability to confront him; she only relied on his concern for Cecilia Vaughn. It was truly ridiculous.

Packing up her luggage, Vera Yves, still uneasy, sent a WeChat message to Hannah Hayes, telling her to warn Harry Yves and Mark Yves to be careful.

Hannah Hayes’s call came the next second.

"Vera, did you and Winston Valentine have another falling out because of Cecilia Vaughn?"

Vera Yves didn’t want her to worry, "No."

"I watched the news, and it was completely false reporting! Our Mark did nothing to her; how could he have ruined her reputation!" Hannah Hayes was furious, "It must have been Cecilia Vaughn who asked someone to write that nonsense!"

Vera Yves thought, it was ninety percent likely Cecilia Vaughn had someone write that report.

With the news out, she became notorious in social circles, and probably no one would consider marrying her anymore.

Winston Valentine naturally felt deeply sorry for her, and Old Mrs. Valentine naturally wouldn’t force her to marry under such circumstances.

Even Luke Shaw’s actions towards her were part of her plan.

Hannah Hayes snorted, "Vera, that woman is very cunning, you definitely can’t win against her! Mom’s thought it through, since she said Mark ruined her reputation, tomorrow I’ll take Mark to The Valentine Family to propose marriage!"

"Mom!" Vera Yves had a headache.

Hannah Hayes didn’t sound like she was joking, "What do you know, this is called uniting through marriage. Old Mrs. Valentine will certainly agree, then we won’t have to worry about her ruining your relationship with Winston, and it’ll keep her close under my watch, Mom will definitely help you get revenge!"

Vera Yves rubbed her temples, "If you don’t want The Yves Family to disappear from the face of the earth, I advise you to drop the idea."

"You child, if you had the ability to keep Winston Valentine’s heart, Mom wouldn’t have to worry so much!"

Vera Yves was silent for a while, "Hanging up."

After hanging up, Vera Yves stared at the ceiling, her eyes gradually growing moist. When it came to relationships, she never had much skill. Thinking of Winston Valentine’s disdainful look, her chest felt tight. It was the dislike that really hurt; after all, she never learned how not to care.

The next morning, Vera Yves received a call from Linda Young as she arrived at the airport. The model Linda had originally scheduled a shoot with had suddenly changed her schedule, and the shoot was now moved up. Linda was unwilling, but the model had connections, and Linda wasn’t in a position to clash with capital.

"Vera, how about changing to tomorrow’s flight?"

Vera Yves looked at the ticket in her hand, "I’ll go first, once you’re done, come join me."

"Alright, if anything comes up, call me."

After three and a half hours, Vera Yves arrived in Alcott, 300 km from Corvid. She still needed to take another bus.

On the bus, Vera Yves received a call from Linda Young saying she couldn’t fly over until the next day since her shoot wouldn’t finish until after seven p.m.

During the two-hour bus ride, Vera Yves started to feel a bit drowsy. Only after she got off did she realize her wallet and phone were gone.

Standing in an unfamiliar plaza, watching the bustling crowd, Vera Yves stood dazed for a moment, then found a bus terminal staff member and reported the incident to the police. After some thought, she called Linda Young.

Hospital.

Cecilia Vaughn looked at the man sitting by the bed, "Winston, since Grandma doesn’t want you to come, you shouldn’t come anymore. Don’t make Grandma upset because of me."

"Don’t overthink it, and don’t worry about Grandma either."

Cecilia Vaughn’s eyes darkened, "With these reports coming out, Grandma must think I’ve disgraced The Valentine Family and wants to send me abroad, right?"

"Those reports are merely rumors, I’ve already had them taken down," Winston Valentine’s voice was calm, "Of course, if you’d like, you can take a break and go abroad."

Cecilia Vaughn looked at him incredulously, "You plan to send me abroad, pretend none of this happened? Vera Yves does something like this, and you want to cover for her?"

"Whether you want to be in the country or abroad is up to you." Winston Valentine’s tone turned colder when he thought of Vera Yves, "If it’s proven to be her, I’ll make sure you get an answer."

"What kind of answer?" Cecilia Vaughn pressed him for a response, "Will you divorce her?"

Winston Valentine looked cold, "That’s my private business."

"Will you?" Cecilia Vaughn insisted, "Winston, weren’t you always most afraid of me being wronged? Now that Vera Yves has hurt me like this, you still want to keep her by your side?"

"Those are two separate things."

A venomous light flashed in Cecilia Vaughn’s eyes, and the next second, tears rolled down her cheeks.

"Winston, do you know how I’ve been these days? It’s Vera’s doing that I’m in such pain every day. How is this a separate matter? Just the thought of her being your wife makes me uneasy all over!"

Seeing her tears, Winston Valentine felt guilty; had it not been for him, she wouldn’t have suffered this.

Noticing his softened expression, Cecilia Vaughn wept even more beautifully, like a pear blossom bathed in rain.

"I know, ever since The Vaughn Family went bankrupt, we could never be a possibility. But you’re the man I’ve loved for so many years; I don’t want you with a woman like Vera Yves. Winston, please divorce her, will you? It’s the only way I might feel a little better."
