Chapter 58 - Well, I'll be damned

"Good morning," Kang-woo's calm and gentle voice slithered through the air, sending shivers down Chin-hwa's spine. "How was your night?"

The question seemed to be directed towards no one in particular but Kang-woo walked towards Yun-tae and kissed the top of his head.

"Did you sleep well?" He asked.

Chin-hwa opened his eyes and saw Kang-woo smiling so softly and gently towards Yun-tae. His heartbeat accelerated, watching him smile and laugh with that perfect face of his.

His gentle attitude, as he brushed Yun-tae's hair with a smile plastered on his lips, seemed to spread towards the others, and they gushed on Yun-tae's behalf.

"Yeah, I... I did." Yun-tae answered, shyly averting his gaze.

He was still stunned that Kang-woo suddenly kissed the top of his head and in such a public place. Guess he wasn't kidding about making their relationship public.

Chin-hwa turned away from them for a second, clenching his lips together and suppressing his hardened heart.

'I can do this. I can do this.' he sang to himself and gave out a deep breath before turning back to them. "Good morning," He said and Kang-woo turned towards him.

"Good morning, Hwa. How was your night?" Kang-woo asked, raising his hand to reach for his head and maybe ruffle it as he did with Yun-tae, but Chin-hwa subconsciously avoided it.

Kang-woo was taken aback, and so did the rest of them who noticed this, and while Kang-woo stared at his hand in shock and disappointment, Chin-hwa tried his best to act like nothing happened.

"So, I never got the chance to say this yesterday but congratulations, you two." He said and the words pressed on his heart like a boulder.

He told himself to be happy but the more and harder he tried to be happy for his friends, he couldn't help but feel his heart grow even heavier.

Guess it wasn't as easy as pushing Kang-woo away.

Just when would he be free from these feelings that plagued him?

He gently and slowly clenched his fist on the table while putting on a smile to hide his conflicted feelings.

"You're officially a couple."

"Oh wow, so it is true." Seoung-bo said with a little gasp behind her palm. "Congratulations you two. You look so good together."

"So it turned out little Yun beat all of us to a relationship." Dong-cha said, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Congrats, hehe."

"Well, technically," Beom perked up his glasses while drawing their attention. "I beat you all to the punch."

"What?! You?! Give it a rest, Beom." Dong-cha said, her face contorted in serious disbelief.

"But it's true." He said, taking out his phone and showing them a picture. "Unless Yun got into his relationship on Saturday morning then I beat everyone to it." He once again perked his glasses up, feeling proud of himself.

Dong-cha took the phone and took a good look at it. He took a picture with his new girlfriend who was apparently kissing his cheek.

"Well, I'll be damned. To think such a sweet girl got together with someone like you." She said, tossing the phone back to him.

"Yeah, I thought the kind of girl you'd end up with was..." They both looked up, their imagination falling to a similar kind as Beom. Black hair, glasses, and a Melo expression like Beom.

It got them cracking up but they were glad for him regardless. That was one less lonely dog on their team.

And while they were all busy at this, Kang-woo was frozen in place. He expected to hear those words from Chin-hwa's lips after he got together with Yun-tae but hearing it for real made him crumble inside.

Just what was he going to do to make himself feel okay? Would he ever be okay at this point?

He forced his lips to curl up and said to Chin-Hwa,

"Thank you."

Chin-hwa nodded and turned his head away, secretly biting his lips. Just what did he do to deserve this?

Why was love so cruel? It wasn't permanent so why couldn't he get rid of it as well?

"Ah, that's right," he raised his head once more, only to find Kang-woo staring at him and he flinched.

How long had he been staring?

After getting caught, Kang-woo quickly looked away, placing his hand on his mouth.

Chin-hwa stared at him. What was he thinking that he had his eyes fixed on him? And it was those pair of sad eyes like he was guilty.

Yun-tae noticed it but he could not say anything about it. He knew Kang-woo's situation and how he wanted to make up with Chin-hwa so whenever he saw those guilty eyes filled with pain, he wouldn't think too much of it.

But his heart would ache... For both of them.

"About the kitty cat," Chin-hwa said, but before he could talk more, his alarm went off, and he picked up his phone. "Ah, we're going to be late for our next class." He said, packing up his stuff and the rest did the same.

They were seated at the free area just at the foot of the campus building where there were a lot of benches and tables for anyone who wanted to study.

But it was more like a group hang-out spot since anyone who wanted to actually study would head to the library where it was quiet.

Chin-hwa and his friends usually hung out there.

"I guess I'll see you around, I guess." Yun-tae said to Kang-woo who shook his head and said,

"Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere." He said, and they all turned to him, wondering what he was talking about, but he simply smiled.

Yun-tae immediately recalled and he gasped,

"That's right. You're taking the same courses as we are, aren't you?"

"Yes, that's right." Kang-woo said and walked towards him, taking his hand. "So, from now on, we're all going to be learning together. Please do take care of me."

Chin-hwa stared at them. More specifically, he stared at their interlocked fingers before shifting his gaze away.

"It's not just business." He mumbled to himself. "Let's go before all the good seats are taken." He announced and kept walking.

Kang-woo watched his back and his smile turned faint as he lowered his gaze, walking hand in hand with Yun-tae. He was doing this so that he could be happy. So, why wasn't he happy?
