Chapter 274: Chapter 274

[SAMANTHA’s Point of View]

I considered what happened in the underground mausoleum behind the Wolf’s Tomb to be one of the worst nightmares that my family and I had experienced. The Silver Crescent Pack still hadn’t recovered yet from all the attacks and the destruction that the Shadow Wolves and the Black Claws had done to our people.

I wanted to believe that all the terrible things had finally met their end, together with Richard Bennette’s death. But we weren’t sure what happened to Olivia after we left her outside the underground mausoleum.

When we got out of that cursed place, she was not there anymore. I wasn’t sure if the curse had killed her after she tried to fight it, hoping that she could free herself from it.

None of us was sure what happened to her.

We all concluded that the war was far from ending, especially if the curse had possessed her once again. Not everyone was still safe. But my husband and I always made sure we were on full alert and cautious. Liam and the council ensured round-the-clock guards for the city’s walls, not letting any suspicious people enter the city.

“MOM!!!”

The excitement in Devon’s voice distracted me from the dark thoughts that started to loom in my head. I let out a sigh and tried to push my worries and fears away as I watched him and his twin sister run towards the prairie, where their Dad was waiting for them with a wide smile and arms spread wide for a big hug. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

The cool breeze gently blew the white skirt of my flowy dress as I brushed the strands of my hair from my face. I smiled, closed my eyes, and breathed deep the fresh, clean air. I couldn’t remember the last time I felt this kind of peace since the children, and I moved here to Silver Crescent. I couldn’t remember this kind of serene feeling after I decided to come back to Dominic’s life.

It’s the first time I appreciate that part of this place. The first time I was here with my twins and my mate, my mind was hazed with the idea of the war and the horror of the Black Claws and the Shadow Werewolves invading this place.

But now that the Shadow Wolf King was finally gone and that we finally ended Richard Bennette for real, I wanted to believe that at least we could finally enjoy this little peace that we earned. Our hard work, strong belief in each other’s strengths, and support during our weaknesses helped us get through to this moment...

I looked at Devon and Diana, and I couldn’t ignore the pain in my heart seeing that they had to deal with all the chaos that was happening in our lives. They are both so beautiful. And innocent. And kind and amazing, and I wish I could do something to spare them from all the evil and ugly things in this world.

Despite these, I tried to convince myself that perhaps the Moon Goddess was preparing them for something big—for something that would test them as the future leaders of the Silver Crescent. And I would be forever proud to be called their mother and raise two powerful and talented shifters like them.

“What’s wrong, Mom? Is there something that got into your eyes?” Diana asked as she saw me rubbing my teary eyes. Her face was etched with worry as she pulled the hem of my white, flowy dress.

“No, sweetheart. Mommy is just happy.” I smiled sweetly at my little girl as I bent down and stared at her. I caressed her soft, smooth cheek with the back of my fingers and then pushed strands of her hair behind her ears, making her giggle. “I am just happy we can go out and have fun like this after everything that happened.”

Dominic raised his face to gaze into my ocean blue eyes. Emotions swam in his hazel eyes as the cool breeze brushed my cheeks, making them blush.

[You are so beautiful today,] he whispered in my head through our bond link, and I felt that warmth spreading through my chest.

I didn’t want to give him the satisfaction of making my heart race with his flattery, but I couldn’t hide the fact that I was also mesmerized by the gentleness in his eyes. Dominic was wearing a white camisole paired with white pants that he folded to his ankles. His dark hair was ruffled by the wind as he stood in front of me, towering over me with that gentle smile on his face while his hands were slipped in his pockets.

The kind of look that was impossible to resist.

Diana helped me prepare our lunch and Dominic went to call Devon while our little boy got busy looking for insects that he wanted to add to his collections. When Dominic finally convinced Devon to continue it later and eat lunch with us, he was surprised that the table was already set and that Diana had done it on her own.

“Nicely done, sweetheart!” Dominic praised her with a huge smile.

Diana was so happy that her Dad appreciated her work and then smiled at me; her eyes were bright and very excited. “Mom helped me.”

“She did most of the work,” I smiled and then placed the basket of bread in the middle of the table. “Also, she helped with the dessert. Madisson said Dian had the potential to become an excellent cook and baker one day.”

“Madisson is just being nice, Mom.” Diana meekly smiled. “I still have a lot to learn.”

“Dad can you pass me the salad, please?” Devon asked his dad as he stuffed his mouth with the roasted chicken.

Dominic fumbled as he looked around the table full of food for the salad. With panicky hands, he picked it up and passed it on to Devon, looking awkward.

“Dad.” Diana squinted her eyes as she gazed at her Dad. “You are not used to this, are you? I mean, like, taking care of people around you?”

I almost choked from the wine that I was drinking, suppressing my laugh as Dominic’s face flushed. He quickly fished his phone from his pocket when it rang urgently. That’s when my brows furrowed and followed him with my gaze as he stepped away from the table to answer the call.

[What is it?”] I asked him after he finally hung up, and I noticed the troubled look in his eyes.

[We can talk about it later, my love. We should focus on the kids.] He spoke with a smile, but something in his gaze still made me nervous.

[Tell me, Dominic. Is it Liam?] I asked again, perturbed at the thought that there could be a problem again outside the walls.

[It is Rey. He called, wanting me to know what they found out in the western borders. He told me there are still dark matter that is forming in that part of the forest that we need to deal with as soon as possible.]

It was as if my heart fell flat on my stomach.

I thought all the terrible things had finally ended after we eliminated the Shadow Wolf King. I thought the kids could finally be safe after we almost ended up dead in that underground mausoleum in the Black Forest.

But I guess this evil lurking in the shadows wasn’t done yet with us.
