Chapter 88: Trust

"You were searching for me?" Nia heard a voice as she was serving the food on the plate.

Her body stiffened as she looked back nervously. Her heart was beating faster. Nia had made sure that no one was there. Nia had even kept her ears wide open and yet she could not hear Sir Kit walking towards her and that frightened her.

Nia made sure that no one was around, "Princess Eleanor wants to talk with you, but make sure no one sees you. The Priest might be keeping an eye out for her."

Sir Kit looked at Nia who said in a whisper. He could see that she was preparing food but she also looked nervous.

"You were searching me for this?" Sir Kit asked.

Nia did not know how to react. The masked man looked at her as if the mere thought send a bad taste in his mouth. Sir Kit’s eyes were sharp and dark.

"You need to tell me how to call you. I cannot be asking for Lady Gisella’s help." Nia said in a small voice but she soon did not continue. She could feel the change in Sir Kit’s aura.

"No need. I will find you when I have to deliver the letter. As per how you can contact me. Just tell Lady Gisella and she will tell me, Although it will not be important in a few days," Sir Kit’s tone turned to a whisper as he looked at Nia, "I will go to the Princess."

Nia nodded her head. She looked at the masked man walking outside as she took a deep breath. Nia looked down at her ring as she bit her lips.

’Princess told me to do this. She said she had to appear sick. We need to make sure that the temple cannot heal her.’ Nia told herself as she closed her eyes. She removed the ring and inverted it slowly. A small opening at the bottom caught her eyes.

Nia knew that the ring was given to her by Princess Eleanor long back but she had always wished not to use it. But now she had to even though she did not want to.

Nia put her nail in the small opening. The powder that was stored in the ring was attached to her nails. Nia looked at the small print of the particle that looked like some spice as she sparkled it on the food.

Nia knew that the power was made of the roots that she had prepared the purpose. Even a small amount of it was enough to make someone sick and Princess Eleanor wanted to be sick.

’All for the Princess,’ Nia said as she swallowed.

The food was prepared and all she had to do was to deliver it to the Princess but Nia knew that she should wait. Princess Eleanor wanted to talk with Sir Kit and she had to respect that. She could only enter once PrincessLeanor had a word with him.

But Nia also knew that she could not wait in the kitchen for too long. ’I should walk slowly,’ Nia said as she started her journey towards Princess Eleanor’s room like a turtle as she could only hope that Sir Kit had entered the Princess’s room by now.

Sir Kit looked at the Princess who sat on the bed in a daze.

"Princess Eleanor," Sir Kit said as he saw the Princess’s back stiffen. He could see Princess Eleanor turning towards him as she smiled,

"Can we talk," Princess Eleanor said as she waited for Sir Kit to walk towards her?

"I am here to talk. Why was Princess searching for me." Sir Kit asked. He could see that Princess Eleanor was not being herself.

She was not overly confident as she was not even concentrating on him. It bothered him somehow but he could not pinpoint on it.

"I wanted to thank you for helping me. I heard that the Grand Duke agreed to let me stay in the mansion." Princess Eleanor said with a smile but it did not reach her eyes.

"Is this the reason why you called me?" Sir Kit said in annoyance. He knew that Princess Eleanor had something in mind. Otherwise, she would never have gone to such lengths to call him. "You will be assigned a new escort soon."

"I want to see you at Beaumont Mansion too," PrincessEleanor’s voice cut through as she said in a hurry. "To be honest I was a little afraid. I heard the Priest is paying attention to me and soon the whalers will be here to make sure that I am feeling all better and ready to enter the Royal Palace."

Princess Eleanor looked at Sir Kit as she said, "I will not get healed but you need to make sure that I reach the mansion without any problems. You need to protect me. I trust no one."

"Princess, isn’t it unfair? Trust works both ways." Sir Kit said as he looked at the princess. "You trust me on this but I am clueless." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Princess Eleanor bit her lips. She knew what Sir Kit was getting at.

"Princess, I agreed because I wanted the perfume but now you want me to protect you? You say you don’t trust anyone but I have no one to trust. I cannot trust a person who is not honest with me." Sir Kit said with a straight face.

"You had already promised." Princess Eleanor said. Her eyes showed her disbelief. "You cannot go back on your words."

"I will not go back on them but you need to start being honest with me too. I need to know who I am against. I need to know whom I should be careful around. I am clueless walking on the road that you want me to but this cannot go on forever, princess. You need to show some truth to me too. So why don’t you start by telling me why you want to enter the Beaumont’s mansion?"

Princess Eleanor was silent but soon she sighed. "I will tell you everything but once we reach Beaumont Mansion. Trust me. I will tell you all."
