The Villianess story: A 100 ways to kill your husband-Chapter 425: Escaping through the woods
Chapter 425: Escaping through the woods
After accepting the letter, Abrielle grabbed Cedric’s hand and they ran, leaving the mansion.
The dagger was strapped to her waist with the letter hidden on her dress. The hallways weren’t busy since it was late. They successfully got to the stables where Elias and Axel were waiting.
"We can run through the woods," Abrielle suggested the same hidden path she used on her wedding day. It was the place she failed to escape through, Abrielle was certain that once they crossed the grassland beyond the woods it would be hard for Lucian to find them in the creek
An additional fact was that the creek was close to the border. It was the fastest way to leave Dacronia. A ship would have been more convenient, but there was no way they could make it through there with the number of knights stationed at the gate.
It would turn into a bloody battle. Cedric and his knights had arrived at the Nightshade estate on horses. It was crazy when Abrielle thought about how they made the long journey on horseback and arrived a day after her.
How fast did they go? And from what Cedric mentioned they were also gathering information. There was also the possibility they might have joined a ship with their horses but this wasn’t the time for Abrielle to figure that out.
Along with the three horses, they took 2 more horses from the stable. Jubilee was too young to ride alone, and Cedric insisted that Abrielle share his horse.
He felt more assured with her arms wrapped around him. "You know I am also an experienced rider," Abrielle grumbled, wrapping her hands around him to secure herself. Everyone was set and he signalled for them to leave. The stables were far from the gates, and in the dark of the night, no one suspected a thing. It felt like a flawless plan.
"I remember someone falling off her horse in a failed escape." He sneered. They quickly got into the nearby woods. Cedric instructed them to increase their speeds then because the grassland was closer.
This was the only path they could escape unnoticed. Abrielle glanced in the direction of the Nightshade family. Her chest felt tight, she never knew things would come to this, and they might betray her one day.
Even if Pierre hadn’t made a choice now, she was certain what it would be. Abrielle felt Cedric tense up. "We are surrounded." He mentioned.
Ahead of them was the grassland. Abrielle’s ears perked up, she could not hear anything yet, but Cedric could. Horses were coming from behind.
He pulled the reins and urged Midnight to run faster. Abrielle’s hold tightened around his waist while her face was buried at his back to protect her eyes from the wind. The rest also increased their speeds. The horses were brought to a sudden halt, and arrows started flying past them, one of which cut Abrielle’s arm, but she held in her cry.
"Former first prince of Dacronia, Cedric Von Drakkar, you are being charged with treason, and I command you to stand down or I will have no choice but to take you down, dear brother." A familiar voice barked out. Cedric’s hold on the rein tightened, and Abrielle glanced over his shoulders to find a different group of knights.
The regime under Alfonso’s command was waiting for them. Alfonso stood in front of a group that was different from the one at the gates. He wore his red armour. His eyes were cold as he stood with authority.
"Hold on tight Abrielle. This will be a difficult ride." He warned Abrielle who listened. Cedric glanced at his followers. It was going to be a hard fight but there was a slim chance they could make it.
He charged forward. Alfonso’s jaw clenched. He knew Cedric was not going to go down without a fight but he should be more considerate of Abrielle.
"Spread out, we have them cornered." He instructed his men. This fight would be over if he used the archers. Cedric was aware Alfonso would not because he could not afford harming the one woman he loves.
Elias, Axel and Evelyn led in front to protect Giselle and Cedric. Cedric could not fight fully because of Abrielle. They managed to hold their ground, but for how long, the plan was to escape.
5 fighters against a large group was a losing game, but they had a battle genius. With Cedric’s command, they were able to break through the line of defence and started racing to the creek.
"Make sure they don’t get to the creek. Archers ready." Alfonso’s voice boomed, reading through Cedric’s plans. The arrows rained down in the dark of night. The metallic scent of blood filled the air. Cedric’s men got injured, but they could still ride.
That’s when reinforcement arrived, rushing from the woods. It was the group at the gate, which meant one thing.
A sick smile curled on her lips. Someone let them in. Someone told them about this route. The Nightshade chose blood over water...
"Can we make it?" She asked Cedric. "Maybe if we get into the thick creek, I can surround it with flames giving us the chance to escape," Cedric answered.
They were being chased from behind by a large group, there was still a slim chance since they were not surrounded.
Jubilee, who was behind Giselle, was super nervous, clinging to Giselle like her life depended on Giselle, and that was the case.
The craziest fact about this battle was the fact that Abrielle had Yuki squeezed between her and Cedric the entire time. Cedric didn’t like the cat, he only agreed because his wife loved it.
The cloud rumbled, a dark cloud suddenly appeared blocking moonlight and everywhere was in pitch darkness. ƒrēenovelkiss.com
Very fast and unexpectedly, lightning struck. Cedric was barely able to avoid it. He was forced off his horse onto the ground. Abrielle was nestled in his protective embrace while they rolled down
Cedric jumped off in a split second, using his fastest speed. Unfortunately, Midnight could not be saved. The horse was burned to a crisp. That wasn’t Callista’s cold lighting attack, but Lucian’s most lethal attack, capable of killing Cedric.
Then another set of bright lights appeared in front of them as a rune formed, and Callista and Lucian stepped out.
