Chapter 119: The Beastmen’s Heat Is Coming

"What have you done to bewitch them? To make those idiots completely forget all the dirty things you’ve done!" The Everwake lay flat on his back on the ground. Though his breath came in ragged gasps, his voice was still laced with a piercing edge.

Evangeline rose, casually picked up the towel that had been used to dry Lachlan’s long hair, and began wiping her own fingers, one by one.

Lowering her gaze, she chuckled softly. With a flick of her wrist, she tossed the towel onto The Everwake’s face. Her lips curled. "You want to know, do you? Be patient... The next potion is for you, and I’ll be feeding it to you myself."

The Everwake took a deep breath and closed his eyes.

The bamboo house fell into a sudden, dead silence. Just when he thought he might get through the night peacefully, her voice, laced with a seductive charm, drifted down, light and nonchalant. "I almost forgot something."

Before The Everwake could open his eyes, a fluorescent light streaked through the air and drilled into the center of his forehead.

Instantly, a chill raced through his veins, his body stiffening, inch by inch.

’He could no longer shapeshift!’

The Everwake’s eyes snapped open, his pupils contracting. A furious darkness churned in his prismatic eyes.

He clenched his jaw, his voice a thin, icy line. "Evangeline!"

His roar was so powerful it almost made the bamboo beams tremble. Veins pulsed on his forehead. His ink-black hair, drenched in cold sweat, clung to his pale skin. He looked like a beast bound in chains. "What did you do to me?!"

"Don’t be so loud," Evangeline said from the bamboo bed, her voice languid.

Beside her, Bunny was also sleeping soundly, as if no noise could possibly wake it.

The Everwake stared daggers at Evangeline’s slender back, malice churning in his eyes, but in the end, he made no other sound.

After some time, the only sounds left in the bamboo house were the even breathing of Evangeline and Bunny, mingling with the patter of the storm outside, weaving a tranquil quiet.

Suddenly, The Everwake’s eyelids fluttered open. His thin lips moved without a sound, forming strange, faint syllables.

The sounds were barely audible, yet they had the quality of an eerie Spell.

But a long moment passed, and still, nothing else stirred in the bamboo house.

The Everwake’s pupils contracted. The veins on his forehead throbbed menacingly, and he clenched his jaw so hard he could taste blood.

Refusing to accept it, he tried to summon them again, but The Swarm seemed to have fallen silent. Not even the faintest whisper of wings reached him.

’Not only could he no longer shapeshift, but he couldn’t even summon The Swarm to fight for him!’

Had Evangeline witnessed this, she probably would have taunted, "The Imprisonment Spell. Just the thing for stubborn bastards like you."

She had anticipated that The Everwake would pull a stunt like this.

The Swarm’s creatures were small and easily hidden. Combined with The Everwake’s Enchanting Skill from his Butterfly Wing Dust, there was no way she would give him the chance to pull the same trick twice.

Binding his abilities was the safest option.

Now, The Everwake was a Ferocious Beast with its fangs pulled, filled with a vicious energy he had no way to release.

*

「At the first light of dawn, Nix finally returned, his feet wet with morning dew.」

He stood silently before the bamboo bed, gazing at Evangeline as she slept soundly, cuddling Bunny. A dark, unreadable light swirled in his violet eyes. After a moment, he gently pulled the beast skin up, covering her carefully.

When he turned to look at The Everwake on the ground, his gaze instantly turned cold and sinister.

Nix seized The Everwake by the neck and, as if dragging a corpse, threw him out of the bamboo house.

THUD—

The Everwake landed hard in a muddy puddle, splashing filthy water onto his pale face.

He choked, sputtering out a mouthful of filthy water. With dirty droplets still dripping from his jaw, he forced a chilling smile and looked up at Nix on the steps, his eyes glacially cold.

Just as The Everwake was about to speak, he heard a clanging and clattering sound from amidst the downpour.

His brow furrowed. He looked toward the sound, and when he saw the scene around him, he froze, a rare look of shock on his face.

Overnight, three new green bamboo houses had sprung up like mushrooms after a rain. They were identical—all conspicuously cramped and narrow—and formed a triangle, enclosing the house before him in the center.

Caden Albright was half-kneeling on a slanted roof, his silver hair shimmering with a cold luster in the downpour. His long fingers flew as he sealed the gaps in the roof one by one, ensuring not a single drop of rain could leak through.

The Black-Scaled Python slithered through the downpour, its tail coiled around fresh bamboo, traveling back and forth between the bamboo forest and this place.

And Lachlan was half-squatting under the bamboo eaves, his lashes lowered. His fair, clean fingers held a sliver of bamboo, fitting it perfectly into the house’s frame with unerring precision.

Rainwater slid down his eyelashes, but he paid it no mind, utterly focused.

The Everwake’s pupils shrank, and a cold, incredulous laugh escaped his throat.

Back in the Oasis Tribe, he never could have imagined such a ridiculously absurd scene.

But now, the cunning fox, the irascible python, the aloof Snow Leopard... building bamboo huts in the pouring rain and mud. Heh. They were completely insane!

Through the curtain of rain, the outlines of the bamboo houses slowly became clearer.

"You’re going too."

Nix’s low, hoarse voice carried a calm deadliness, utterly cold and sinister.

"Me? You’re telling me to build bamboo houses?" A sneer touched The Everwake’s wild features, and he let out a cold laugh. ’Me, go crazy like those three idiots? Dream on!’

"Not going? You think you have a choice here?" Thorne slithered back, coiled around a new stalk of bamboo, his black scales gleaming with a cold light. Hearing The Everwake’s contemptuous words, a flash of iciness crossed his dark green, vertical pupils.

The words had barely left his mouth when his tail, still carrying the bamboo, suddenly whipped out!

Before The Everwake could react, he was sent flying by a brutal force, landing with a SPLASH in another muddy puddle. His long, dark hair was soaked in filth, a picture of utter misery.

Caden Albright, kneeling on one knee on the eaves, wore an icy expression on his exquisitely handsome face. His amber eyes pierced through the rain, staring down at The Everwake as if looking at something filthy. He said nothing, but his disgust was palpable.

Lachlan never once looked up, his eyes reflecting only the grain of the bamboo pieces that were gradually taking shape.

Nix didn’t speak, merely watched with cold detachment, the dead, sinister chill in his eyes falling upon everyone equally.

Evangeline sat by the window, cracking melon seeds. The sharp CRACK was exceptionally clear.

A smile played on her lips, and her eyes danced with the light of someone enjoying a good show, full of interest and leisurely contentment.

Although the curtain on their new life had not yet truly been raised, the outlines of their different factions were already quietly taking shape.

Whatever the future might hold, for now, it was clear the Beast Husbands were not yet of one mind.

Caden Albright and Thorne, having been the first to meet up, shared a subtle, unspoken understanding.

Lachlan remained untouched, just like the man himself, as if all the world’s turmoil was nothing more than smoke and clouds, unworthy of his gaze. Nothing seemed capable of holding his attention.

As for Nix, he seemed to antagonize everyone, friend or foe. Perhaps, given the chance, he would silently murder any of the other males who were competing with him for their female master.

After all, he was a madman who couldn’t even tolerate his own Contract Mark. How could he possibly tolerate anyone else stealing her attention?

As for The Everwake, not only was he isolated and helpless, but he had also incurred the wrath of the group because of last night’s events. The days to come would likely be the hardest for him.

Evangeline watched the farce with contentment, until a hateful glare from The Everwake shot her way.

Her red lips curved slightly, but she didn’t even deign to glance in his direction. Her slender fingers tapped lightly on the windowsill, a ghost of a smile touching the corners of her eyes. "You all had better hurry up and finish those bamboo houses. After all..."

"The Beastman mating season is coming."
