On the Day I Was Kicked Out of the Wealthy Family, I Had a Flash Marriage with a Tycoon-Chapter 190: Making a Deal with Silas Coldwell
Director Xavier nodded. "So that’s what happened. No wonder President Lockwood was so ruthless with the Rivers Family."
Chloe Sterling said, "Is that why you called me here?"
"Yes," Director Xavier chuckled. "After all, we’re talking about Lynn Chester. If there’s a chance to meet her, you can’t miss it. It’s just a shame it wasn’t her."
"Lynn Chester has always been mysterious. She wouldn’t reveal her whereabouts so easily."
"That’s true. But there have been rumors recently that she’s in Crestfall. I wonder if it’s true."
Chloe Sterling didn’t say anything. For now, she didn’t want to reveal her identity to Director Xavier, nor did she want him getting involved in her affairs.
The two chatted for a while longer before Chloe Sterling left.
She didn’t head to the lab, but walked toward the exit instead. Just then, Silas Coldwell, wearing sunglasses, suddenly appeared before her, a smug smile playing on his lips.
"Baby, care to talk?"
Chloe Sterling stopped and watched him for a moment before saying, "Fine."
Her attitude was what Silas Coldwell had expected, but he wasn’t as happy as he thought he’d be. He knew that Chloe Sterling was willing to talk not just for her own sake, but more so for Jasper Lockwood’s.
The two of them walked out of The Medical College together and got into Silas Coldwell’s car.
Zane Stratton was in the driver’s seat, while in the back, Silas Coldwell was turned sideways, staring at the woman beside him. Chloe Sterling’s expression was grave as she looked straight ahead.
After a while, Silas Coldwell suddenly spoke. "Aren’t you going to say something?"
Chloe Sterling glanced at him. "Weren’t you the one who wanted to talk to me?"
"Didn’t you get in the car because you had something to say to me, too?"
Chloe Sterling: "You first."
Silas Coldwell suddenly let out a laugh. "I thought you’d try to negotiate with me first. What’s the matter? Finally realize you’re in deep trouble this time?"
Chloe Sterling pressed her lips together, saying nothing.
"Why did you help Apex Group?" Silas Coldwell suddenly asked.
"How did you know?"
"What is there about you that I *don’t* know?" Silas Coldwell shifted, leaning back lazily. He continued, "Jasper Lockwood is definitely going down this time. He may have dealt with the Rivers Family, but he can’t fight so many factions at once. Leaving with me now is the right choice. I guarantee no one will find out where you are."
"Those people are after me. They just want to find me. They won’t necessarily go after Jasper Lockwood."
"Do you think Jasper Lockwood will let them track you down? The moment he tries to stop them, there will be conflict. He’ll become their enemy. If you didn’t know that, why would you have gotten in my car? Baby, if you think I’m going to help him, you can forget it. You should be glad I’m not kicking him while he’s down."
Chloe Sterling looked at him and said, "He doesn’t need your help. I’m the one who needs your help."
Silas Coldwell raised an eyebrow. "You need my help? I can’t believe I’m hearing those words from you. You want me to take you away?"
"No. I want you to spread a rumor that you captured Lynn Chester in Country E, but she managed to escape."
If anyone else released such news, it might be questioned. But if Silas Coldwell was the source, no one would ever doubt it. The whole world knew he and Jasper Lockwood were at odds, so he would never help solve Jasper’s problems.
This was also the fastest and most effective solution at the moment.
Even if Silas Coldwell hadn’t come looking for her today, she had already planned to find him.
Silas Coldwell scoffed. "But isn’t that the same as helping Jasper Lockwood?"
Chloe Sterling: "You’re not helping him. You’re helping me hide my real identity. If you agree to help, I’ll help you finish that research project you want to complete."
"So you agree to join the Nocturne Group?"
"No, just to help you finish that project. It’s no loss for you. It’s just a matter of having your men put on a show and spread a few rumors. I’ll help you complete the project before the new year."
Silas Coldwell really did want to finish that project as soon as possible, especially before the new year. And no one but Chloe Sterling could do it.
The man’s bewitching eyes narrowed, and a slight smile touched his thin lips. "Baby, you really know me well, don’t you? You know I just might accept this offer."
"So you agree?"
After a long moment, Silas Coldwell finally spoke. "And what if I don’t agree? What’s your plan then?"
Chloe Sterling turned to look out the window. "Find someone else to work with."
Silas Coldwell: "Who else could you find besides me?"
Chloe Sterling: "Your other arch-nemesis."
Silas Coldwell: "..."
The thought of a certain someone made Silas Coldwell’s face darken. After a moment, he said, "Fine. Deal. I’ll have my people arrange it. You can start at my lab tomorrow."
Chloe Sterling pressed her lips together. "Okay."
「At the hospital.」
Charles Sterling found Serena Lockwood and asked, "Is it true that Jasper Lockwood’s new wife is Lynn Chester? Or did you deliberately spread a fake rumor to get other factions to go after him?"
Serena Lockwood’s face was haggard. Jasper Lockwood had brought such ruin upon the Rivers Family, so she was eager for every faction to cause trouble for him. Naturally, she wasn’t about to tell the truth.
"Of course it’s true. The woman’s name is Chloe Sterling, and she’s the legendary Pharmacist, Lynn Chester! She didn’t just save my father-in-law; Old Master Lockwood was also pulled back from death’s door by her. The medicine she uses is incredibly potent. Oh, right, didn’t she help you too? You couldn’t tell?"
Chloe Sterling was Lynn Chester, and she was Jasper Lockwood’s secret wife. Charles Sterling was truly shocked by this revelation.
No wonder he had felt something was off about the way Jasper Lockwood looked at Chloe Sterling at The Medical College that day. It turned out they were actually husband and wife.
But he was still skeptical about Chloe Sterling being Lynn Chester. After all, Serena Lockwood hated Jasper Lockwood’s guts right now, so it was more likely she was saying it deliberately to cause trouble.
It wasn’t just Charles Sterling. The other factions were also skeptical. It had been confirmed that the rumor came from the Rivers Family, and considering their current predicament was Jasper Lockwood’s doing, it was impossible not to question the rumor’s authenticity.
They wanted to find Lynn Chester, but they didn’t want to be used as someone else’s weapon.
After thinking for a long while, Charles Sterling asked again, "What other proof do you have that she’s Lynn Chester?"
Serena Lockwood said, "I don’t have any direct proof, but I’m certain she’s Lynn Chester. Otherwise, why would Jasper Lockwood suddenly marry some country bumpkin? Look at his status! Even the princess of some country wanted to marry him. Would he really fall for a woman from the countryside so casually?"
Charles Sterling stared at her with sharp eyes and said slowly, "Mrs. Rivers, you’d better not be lying."
A flicker of guilt crossed Serena Lockwood’s eyes, but she stubbornly insisted, "Believe it or not."
Charles Sterling had originally planned to return to Country A, but now he had changed his mind.
If Chloe Sterling really was Lynn Chester, then he had to get her to join Apex Group, no matter what it took.
Silas Coldwell took Chloe Sterling directly to his lab in Crestfall.
After getting out of the car, Chloe Sterling frowned slightly. "Didn’t we say I’d start tomorrow?"
Silas Coldwell said, "Can’t we go take a look first?"
Chloe Sterling didn’t say anything and followed him into the lab.
