The Villainess Winning Back Her Beast Husbands-Chapter 113: Defining Wifely Authority
As his words faded, all eyes fell upon Nix.
The firelight cast flickering shadows across his androgynous face as a faint, dark fragrance drifted through the air.
Evangeline lowered her gaze, gently stroking the sleeping Bunny in her arms. She didn’t turn around. Her narrow eyes were perfectly calm, and even the crimson mark at the center of her forehead seemed to radiate a cold indifference, as if she truly didn’t care what Nix would choose.
Nix’s purple eyes were filled with a chilling emptiness, an unshakeable gloom churning in their depths.
He completely ignored The Everwake, his gaze fixed quietly on Evangeline as his long fingers clutched the hem of her robe.
Nix’s knuckles whitened as he tightened his grip, his restraint so absolute that his hand trembled.
He remained silent, but his pale fingertips and lowered lashes revealed an almost obstinate resolve. Clearly, nothing was more important to him than what Evangeline wanted.
Evangeline, slightly surprised, turned to look at Nix. She had thought he would side with The Everwake.
After all, for Nix, forceful possessiveness was the only way he knew how to experience love.
"Tch. Fool," The Everwake sneered. The uncanny, colorful butterfly patterns on his face suddenly flared, fluorescent light coursing from his cheeks, down the elegant lines of his neck, and all the way to his spine.
With the sound of tearing silk, twelve enormous butterfly wings erupted from his back.
The wings spanned several meters, as brilliant as a rainbow. In the firelight and pouring rain, each one refracted a mesmerizing, illusory light, impossibly magnificent.
The Everwake shot into the air. His twelve wings spread gently, scattering a shimmering, fluorescent dust.
Evangeline’s brow furrowed. She looked up at the dust drifting down from the sky and quickly shielded Bunny.
The next moment, Nix’s hand clutching her robe convulsed, his knuckles turning deathly pale.
A pained expression twisted his pale features. The coldness in his purple eyes was suddenly shattered by terror, and the nine-star pattern at the center of his forehead began to crack.
And it wasn’t just him.
Caden Albright, who stood protectively in front of her, let out a muffled grunt and dropped to one knee. He clutched his head, his expression a mask of agony.
Thorne’s dark green, slitted pupils contracted violently, and his serpentine tail swept out uncontrollably.
Among them all, only Lachlan seemed to be faring better, though his brow was tightly furrowed and emotions roiled in his gray-brown eyes.
The scene instantly descended into chaos, as if everyone had been dragged into a nightmare from The Abyss.
A short distance away, Orion and Elias Moretti were also pale but managed to remain on their feet. They exchanged a look, each seeing the alarm in the other’s eyes. When they looked up at The Everwake, their expressions were grave.
His Butterfly Wing Dust could draw out a person’s deepest fears.
The Everwake landed lightly on the roof of the bamboo house, his twelve wings refracting a sinister, cold light.
He looked down upon the crowd, a grim smile curling his lips. His brutal voice was laced with a bewitching charm, like a lover’s whisper. "Be good... tear her apart."
His words, laced with a sickly sweetness, bored into the depths of their nightmare-corroded souls.
Nix—or perhaps, Loras—stared at Evangeline, murderous intent swirling in his purple eyes.
Caden Albright, Thorne, and even Elias Moretti and Orion were losing control. They transformed into their beast forms, and, seething with murderous intent, lunged for Evangeline’s throat and heart from all sides.
The Everwake’s enchanting words had stirred the deepest pain in their hearts. This, combined with the hallucinogenic Butterfly Wing Dust, caused all of their Heart Demons to manifest with a single target for their rage.
—Evangeline.
’What a manipulative, two-faced bastard.’
Evangeline was so furious she laughed, a cold light flashing in her eyes.
With a flick of her wrist, her Cold Frost Whip cut through the air with a bone-chilling glint. But before the lash could land, the tide of insects lurking nearby began to stir, coordinating with Loras and the others and tying her hands.
The venomous insects swarmed like a plague, and Loras and the others relentlessly unleashed one deadly attack after another.
Forced to protect Bunny, Evangeline had to retract her long whip, cracking it before her to create a barrier of ice.
Suddenly, a foul wind gusted from behind her!
The crimson serpent that was Elias Moretti opened its cavernous maw, chilling fangs dripping with venom. It lunged for the back of Evangeline’s neck with a ferocity that suggested it would tear out her throat even if it meant mutual destruction.
The foul wind whipped Evangeline’s hair aside, exposing the pale skin of her nape.
When its fangs were but half an inch from her skin, they stopped.
An agile Snow Leopard pounced, its sharp teeth like blades, and viciously clamped down on the vital spot just below the serpent’s head.
The Snow Leopard’s sharp fangs pierced the giant serpent’s scales, and venomous blood sprayed out!
Elias Moretti, enraged by the pain, whipped his serpent tail back like a steel lash, striking the Snow Leopard across the spine!
With a sharp CRACK, blood instantly soaked the Snow Leopard’s fur!
He coughed up bloody foam but seemed not to feel the pain. An almost stubborn viciousness roiled in his gray-brown Beast Eyes as he used the momentum to slam the serpent’s head into the ground, the impact creating a massive fissure!
The Snow Leopard released its blood-soaked fangs and leaped in front of Evangeline like a bolt of lightning.
His front claws dug deep into the ground, his back arched into a fierce, taut line.
Facing the murderous intent of Caden Albright, Thorne, Orion, and the others, he didn’t shrink back in the slightest. A low growl rumbled in his throat, but his tail carefully nudged Evangeline toward safety.
The Everwake floated down from the eaves.
He leaned forward slightly, studying the Snow Leopard with great interest as if he’d found a new toy. Suddenly, he tilted his head and smiled, the butterfly patterns on his cheeks glowing with an otherworldly light. "You can actually resist my Butterfly Wing Dust?"
"Lachlan, Lachlan... I really did underestimate you."
Evangeline stared at the Snow Leopard shielding her. Lachlan’s beast form was elegant and powerful. Though not as massive as Caden Albright’s, he was an insurmountable barrier, steadfastly protecting her.
Looking at Lachlan’s tensed spine, Evangeline suddenly understood how he had managed to break free of The Everwake’s control.
Lachlan was a person who radiated detachment from his very core—cool, aloof, and solitary. To him, the world’s myriad illusions were nothing more than passing clouds. It was just like at the very beginning, when he was the only one who had seen through her "Flora" disguise.
Even The Everwake’s world-bending Illusion Technique was useless against such a clear and perceptive mind.
"Lachlan, you..." The Everwake’s eyes glinted, a treacherous light swirling within them.
Before he could finish, Evangeline’s head snapped up, her glare as sharp as a blade. "Shut up!"
The air instantly grew still. The smile on The Everwake’s lips froze, and his prismatic, glass-like eyes dimmed, as if a toxic powder were churning in their depths.
The Everwake sneered. "You don’t seem to grasp the situation you’re in."
Evangeline ignored him, not even deigning to glance in his direction. Her gaze remained fixed on Lachlan’s tense spine.
She suddenly reached out and gently pinched his snow-white ear-tip, which was dusted with the iridescent powder from the butterfly wings. "Lachlan, I have a mission for you. Can you do it?"
Where her fingertips passed, the bewitching dust dissipated with a soft rustle.
Lachlan’s claws made a grating sound on the ground. His ears twitched. His eternally clear gray-brown Beast Eyes, reflecting Evangeline’s face, flushed crimson as he nodded firmly.
"Hold Bunny and stand aside."
The moment she spoke, Lachlan’s form flickered. He shifted back into his human shape and knelt on one knee, blood trickling from his lips. He wiped it away, his brow furrowed in concern. "But you..."
Evangeline suddenly raised a hand, her slender fingers pressing against his blood-stained lips as a Spiritual Medicine rolled into his mouth, instantly soothing his injuries.
She took the chance to place Bunny in his arms, her gaze steady. "I trust you to take care of him."
Lachlan shuddered, his pupils contracting violently. Finally, he forced a single word through his teeth. "Okay."
The Everwake’s sneer rang out at just the right moment. "How touching."
He scoffed, his prismatic eyes filled with ice. "A pity. You’re all... going to die!"
Evangeline turned to face The Everwake, who looked as if he were calmly watching a show he had orchestrated. She then glanced at Caden Albright and Thorne, their eyes bloodshot and devoid of reason, their murderous intent so thick it was almost tangible.
"Heh..." Evangeline’s lips quirked, but there was no mirth in her eyes.
She gently brushed a stray lock of black hair from her temple. With each step she took toward The Everwake, the ground beneath her feet cracked like a spiderweb. "The Everwake. Have you had your fun?"
"You are my Beast Husband. This kind of reckless behavior is so unbecoming."
"Today, I’ll teach you the meaning of... a wife’s authority!"
The last three words were a cold rebuke. Instantly, with a shocking display of power, lightning filled the sky and struck down!
