Chapter 112: The Boy Band Gathers, A Major Scene of Carnage

The next instant, insects in the swarm burst one after another, as if crushed by an invisible hand.

Globules of stinking green ooze exploded, their slime falling to the ground and corroding it into hissing, charred pits. The nine-star pattern on Nix’s forehead flared, and purple Star Pattern Power circulated, radiating a silent killing intent through the curtain of rain. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚

A cold sneer escaped The Everwake’s lips. He tapped his toes to the ground and shot back several meters, his floor-length black hair slicing a sharp arc through the downpour as a strange, sharp shriek escaped his throat.

In an instant, thousands upon thousands of venomous insects took flight, their wings beating violently as they formed a vast, toxic net that blotted out the sky.

Thick vines erupted from the ground, sweeping through the insect swarm with the force of a thunderbolt!

The two forces collided, shaking the very earth and sending wave-like tremors across the ground.

Evangeline grabbed Nix and flicked a finger, sending a golden flame shooting from its tip!

It was just a tiny flicker, but the moment it touched the swarm, it was like hitting a pan of burning oil.

"BOOM—"

Flames surged, filling the sky. As if meeting their natural predator, the insects emitted piercing, heart-rending squeals. They twisted into charred husks within the inferno before plummeting from the sky, a grim and horrifying sight.

The Everwake stood silently in the distance, his rainbow-like, crystalline eyes watching it all, his gaze frigid.

His lips parted as he spoke, his tone indifferent. "The Beast God must be blind to have bestowed such powerful witch power on someone like you."

Evangeline tightened her grip on Nix’s wrist, gazing at The Everwake from across the leaping sea of flames.

She suddenly let out a soft laugh. "Don’t you want to know why I became a Witch after you died?"

The corner of The Everwake’s mouth twisted into a mocking sneer. He clearly had no intention of dignifying her with a response.

A series of strange shrieks escaped his lips, the sound waves vibrating through the air. The insects struggling in the sea of fire were instantly revitalized, their tough carapaces now shrouded in a bloody mist as they swarmed madly toward Evangeline.

Evangeline’s gaze grew cold, and she slowly clenched her fist.

Instantly, frost surged and coalesced in her palm, forming a Cold Frost Whip. The whip was wreathed in a bone-chilling mist that seemed to make even the roaring flames freeze in place.

"I was hoping we could reminisce about old times, but I never thought you’d be so cold-hearted."

Her red lips curved into a beautiful smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes, and her voice was laced with ice.

Evangeline flicked her wrist, about to tear through the scorching flames.

Just then, a silver-white blur flashed before her eyes.

Silken silver hair billowed like a waterfall in the heatwave. A tall, slender figure shielded her completely, and a black mist, thick as ink, surged from his palm, aimed directly at the overwhelming swarm of insects.

Wherever the black mist passed, even the firelight was devoured.

The buzzing of the insects’ wings instantly became a wretched shriek as they plunged, one after another, into the darkness.

In just a moment, the black mist tore a gaping hole through the swarm.

"Eva, are you all right?" Caden Albright didn’t turn around, his tender voice thick with concern.

"You..." Evangeline blinked, her long lashes trembling. "What are you doing here?"

Caden Albright maintained his defensive posture, but a soft laugh escaped his throat. "My female master is causing such a scene. How could I dare stay away?"

Evangeline snapped back to reality and scanned the area. "Where’s Bunny?"

"SCREEE—"

A dark shadow suddenly tore through the curtain of rain as a Wyvern with enormous Bone Wings swooped down!

"Eva—"

Evangeline whipped her head around to see Thorne leaping down from the Wyvern’s back.

He was clutching a swaddled bundle to his chest, shielding it completely from the pouring rain.

When he raised his head and his eyes met Evangeline’s, those green, vertical pupils, usually full of animosity, suddenly softened. The endless hostility in his features receded like a tide, and it seemed as if even the torrential downpour had grown gentle.

"Eva!" Thorne hurried forward, holding Bunny, his anxious eyes raking over her. He looked her up and down, checking her carefully, a suppressed pain churning in his dark green pupils. "The backlash from breaking the contract..."

He grabbed her wrist, though his fingertips didn’t dare to squeeze. His voice was terribly hoarse. "You promised me you would come back..."

For once, a rare softness touched Evangeline’s features. "I was wrong. I’m sorry for making you worry."

Thorne’s breath caught. He shook his head, and seeing Evangeline’s gaze fall upon the bundle, he carefully lifted a corner of the swaddling.

A pink and tender Bunny was sleeping soundly while sucking a thumb, so well-protected that not a single drop of rain had touched them.

"They’ve grown." Evangeline’s fingertip hovered over Bunny’s cheek, but she didn’t touch them.

The cubs of the Beastman Continent grew differently from normal children. In just a few days, Bunny was no longer the little fluffball they once were. Their features were becoming more defined, and even with their eyes closed, you could tell they strongly resembled their father.

Just then, hesitant footsteps sounded from within the curtain of rain, coming to an abrupt halt a few paces away.

Evangeline turned and, through the hazy curtain of rain, met a pair of cool, grey-brown eyes.

The downpour blurred Lachlan’s silhouette, but it couldn’t hide the surging emotions in his eyes.

Those grey-brown eyes, usually so cool and distant, were now fixed on her, as if they could never get their fill. The rims of his eyes were red, and the corners were still wet—whether from the rain or something else, it was impossible to tell.

The most striking thing was the bruise on his cheekbone. The mottled purple and blue looked especially jarring on his otherwise coolly handsome face. This beastman, normally so aloof and proud, now looked like an abandoned pup, his very breaths coming in careful, heart-wrenching trembles.

Evangeline spared him only a single glance before looking away and taking Bunny from Thorne’s arms.

’What is today, a holiday?’ she thought to herself. ’I’ve managed to gather five of the male leads in one spot.’

Before the thought could even finish, the Wyvern folded its Bone Wings and landed, transforming into a human amidst the rain. He shook his wet hair, flinging water everywhere. With such a free and unrestrained air, it was clearly Orion.

At the same time, the faint snap of a breaking twig echoed from the woods.

Another tall, slender figure stepped slowly out of the woods, wading through the puddles. His scarlet eyes lingered on Evangeline for a moment, churning with an indecipherable emotion, before he silently looked away.

Elias Moretti looked toward The Everwake, his expression grave.

The ground was a surging tide of insects, and the air was thick with a suffocating pressure, like a bowstring pulled taut to its breaking point.

The corners of Evangeline’s long, narrow eyes lifted. ’Now this,’ she thought, ’is quite a scene. If the mood wasn’t so grim, I’d have to whistle and applaud. What a party!’

"Heh, what a lively party indeed." The Everwake’s rainbow-colored, crystalline eyes glinted with an eerie, cold light as his gaze scraped across their faces like a razor’s edge.

He sneered, his savage tone dripping with mockery. "Are you all under Evangeline’s witchcraft? Have you forgotten what she did to you?"

"Caden Albright, you’re still alive? What a pleasant surprise. But... was the pain of being flayed alive not enough for you? Or did the cold winds on Thorncliff fail to wake you?"

"Thorne, your Beast Crystal may have recovered, but can you really forget those days you spent being trampled into the mud?"

"Lachlan..." The Everwake let out a sudden, soft laugh, the firelight dancing on his mocking features. "Weren’t you always so high and mighty, too proud to spare Evangeline even a single glance? Chasing after her so eagerly... that’s not like you."

"Then again... the look in your eyes does remind me of something."

"When your people were dying from the plague, did they also look at you with such... desperate hope?"

A truly soul-crushing blow.

The Everwake’s voice was laced with venom, every word a precise dagger twisting in their freshest wounds.

He suddenly doubled over, his muffled laughter filled with maniacal glee.

The Everwake’s gaze then swept past Orion and Elias Moretti, finally landing on Nix.

"Loras, do you see now?"

"She is a fickle, insatiable, and vicious female."

"Join me, and let’s kill them all!"
