Chapter 60: Because Of You!

By the time Abigail woke up, she was inside a small white room with gray and blue curtains by the window. She blinked as she tried her best to look at her view. It still felt a little blurry in her eyes as she glanced at the glucose syringe attached to her wrist. Her other hand had a syringe of blood attached to her.

Then she happened to look up and met Nicholas’s eyes. His face remained cold and dark as he stared at her.

No... He seemed to have been standing nearby and staring at her for God knows how long.

Abigail felt a little guilty in her heart. By this time, her depressive phase had already started to fade. There was a rare sense of peace in her mind before her mania could take over.

Right now, it could be said that she was finally sane.

She coughed and raised her right hand weakly and said, "Hi...."

Nicholas’s expression didn’t change as he continued to stare at her like that. He could see traces of guilt in her eyes, making his eyes turn even darker.

He sneered in his heart.

So this girl knows she made a mistake, didn’t she?

Of course, how could he not know this woman pulled another stunt and jumped into the river right in front of Asher? That cousin of his also jumped inside the river to save her.

What a great knight in shining armor! Both of them were fit to be together!

The more he thought about that incident, his heart burnt with traces of jealousy.

Just when Abigail had started to feel uncomfortable under his cold and icy stare that continued to darken, the man finally said, "You jumped in the river."

It wasn’t a question.

Abigail averted her eyes guiltily.

So he knows about this, huh. She wanted to explain that it was her bipolar disorder, but she knew it would only look like she was merely making an excuse. After all, the ’Abigail’ of this world was a serial killer, not a mental case.

That woman wanted to kill everyone who ever got in her way, similar to her mother. After all, the villain took after her mother.

But this Abigail was different. She didn’t have a single goal in her life other than to live peacefully. She didn’t want anything other than peace from her mental and emotional turbulence.

"Speak."

"Well...." Abigail scratched her head, trying to come up with something. "You see.... I saw something shining in there. Since I wanted it, I jumped..."

Her excuse was so lame that even she didn’t believe it.

"After you’re discharged," Nicholas’s expression was filled with a hint of mocking as he said, "I’ll take you to that bridge. Show me what kind of shiny thing attracted you so much that you jumped."

Abigail’s mouth shut as she lowered her head, pretending that she never heard those words.

The more she acted like this, the more Nicholas got angrier. Veins popped on his forehead, but in the end, he said nothing and walked outside the room. As soon as he walked out, someone grabbed his collar and dragged his entire body out, pushing him onto the wall.

Honestly, Nicholas already knew who dared to treat him like this. Who else could it be other than his damned cousin?

But he remained calm and peaceful as he raised his head and glanced at the man, raising his eyebrows coolly.

Asher felt even angrier seeing his cousin’s expression. He really wanted to punch the man right on his jaw, but he still had his reasoning mind stable.

"She jumped because of you."

"But she jumped right in front of you, and you couldn’t even stop her." Nicholas didn’t care about the reason why his wife jumped. In his eyes, she was merely making trouble and giving him a headache.

In his eyes, his cousin was more of a failure. Didn’t this person know what Abigail could do and couldn’t? This person should have been ready to face her craziness if Asher dared to fall in love with the woman.

Nicholas couldn’t believe this was the same Asher who surpassed him in business. No, more likely, he couldn’t believe he trusted such a useless man for his wife.

"Get out of here." Nicholas finally spoke as he pushed the man away, fixing his tie as he gave the other a cold glance. "I gave you a chance, but you lost it because you’re useless."

"Get out?" Asher exclaimed, his laughter tinged with anger. "Is it my fault she got all down in the dumps because of you? If you’re a real man, don’t just stand there and watch your wife suffer because of your choices! Take your marriage seriously, cousin! There are plenty of better guys out there for her, and yet, you’re just taking her for granted!"

"You, out of all people, shouldn’t tell me what I should do and what I shouldn’t."

"Ahem..." A familiar female voice vibrated from the back, making both the men stunned and frozen as she said, "I need water..."

Both of them looked at Abigail who stood in the corridor with a glucose bottle in one hand and her other holding on a medical pole with a bag filled with blood. She looked extremely weak as if she would fall if she weren’t leaning against the wall.

Asher, as always, was the first to act as he jumped toward her and held her shoulders, asking in worry, "Abigail, are you alright?"

"Yes...." Abigail felt awkward now that she didn’t feel either depressed or maniac. She didn’t know who to face them both, and she needed a moment of peace.

But she still needed to drink water. And since Nicholas had just gone outside and there wasn’t any nurse in sight, she decided to walk out and find some water for herself.

Since her childhood, she had been independent despite having nurses all around her. So she was confident that she could do it here too.

But who would have thought to witness such a scene?! From pushing Nicholas against the wall to having a verbal war.... Every single thing reminded her of BL novels!

If these two weren’t real cousins, Abigail would have really jotted down another BL novel featuring these two as the main couple!

She giggled in her heart, but her face remained calm as she looked at them innocently.

If the two men knew what she was thinking about, they would surely have been angered to death.
