Chapter 57: Bumping Into Him

Rosa had been anxious ever since she found out about Abigail. She paced back and forth in the living room, constantly throughout the evening. She didn’t know how her daughter-in-law was, and how the woman managed to stay all alone in the hospital.

Of course, Asher was there, but he was still a stranger, not a family member. How much could he really do? Rosa was extremely grateful for her nephew for everything he has done.

She should have been the one to take care of her daughter-in-law. No, it should have been Nicholas.

As soon as she thought of her eldest son, Rosa’s eyes turned red in anger as her fists clenched.

Everything that has happened until now was only because of her son! If only he had told her beforehand, she wouldn’t have missed out on her daughter-in-law’s situation!

She took a deep breath and tried her best to calm herself down.

No need to continue scolding Nicholas like this. The man had always been aloof and indifferent to everything since his childhood. He rarely smiled even when he was a toddler.

Such a serious young man, what else could she expect?

Just when she was thinking about it, her cellphone rang. She hastily picked it up knowing who it could be. Seeing the time, she had expected the duo to return already.

What’s taking them so long?

But as soon as she picked up the call, Asher’s anxious voice echoed through the speaker, making Rosa stunned. Her footsteps stopped as her eyes widened and face paled.

Something happened to Abigail!

"I’m coming!" She replied hastily and hung up the call, throwing it on the couch.

Then she rushed toward the door as fast as she could with a worried expression. The moment she walked outside, she noticed her daughter-in-law fallen to the ground, curled up and her nephew standing next to her, looking at the woman anxiously.

"Asher, Abigail!" Rosa spoke loudly as she rushed over. By the time she reached, she was already gasping.

At the same time, Abigail seemed like she heard nothing and continued tosob loudly.

Rosa couldn’t take it anymore.

This was all her fault. She should have called her daughter-in-law personally instead of waiting for her son to open his mouth. That young man was good for nothing, but what was Rosa doing as a mother-in-law?! She wasn’t responsible at all! Just look at the young woman’s condition right now!

"Abigail?" Rosa finally squatted to the ground and caressed the woman’s head gently, saying, "Abigail dear, get up. You’re home."

Abigail suddenly jolted and raised her teary face, looking at her mother-in-law with a shocked and anxious expression on her face. Her eyes filled with fear as she stared.

Why did her mother-in-law decide to come now? She had already decided not to reciprocate with either of these people, not to be loved by illusions. After all, wasn’t it a better choice than to wake up some day in her old, asylum room, bereft of all this love?

Then why did her mother-in-law have to appear once again and show affection to her?! Why didn’t the older woman come when Abigail needed her the most?!

Abigail suddenly got up and took a few steps back, muttering softly, "D-Don’t come closer..."

"Abigail?" Rosa felt alarmed seeing the young woman’s defensive mood. She instantly stood up and said, "No one’s coming closer, okay? Let’s go inside and talk, okay?"

"I don’t want to talk!" Abigail held her head as if she couldn’t take it anymore. Her head felt like it would burst apart because of all the negative emotions swirling around her mind. "Don’t... don’t come closer."

Just stay away...

As long as you all stay away, I won’t feel anything...

As long as I don’t feel anything, I’ll probably be fine...

At least, I won’t feel these terrible emotions that burst through my heart.

Abigail felt tears rolling down her cheeks once again. Sure enough, being alive was even more difficult than dying. She had to carry the burden of these negative emotions with every walking step. Wasn’t it better to just end her tiny life once and for all?

She wiped her tears with her trembled hands and mumbled, "stay away... Don’t follow..."

After that, she took a few steps back and started to run toward the main gate of the villa.

Both Rosa and Asher were standing there, shocked to the bone. The latter came back to his senses faster than ever as he ran forward.

But the moment Abigail reached the gate, it opened automatically and standing in front of her was a familiar car, heading inside. She directly collided with the car as her torso hit the front of the car as she groaned softly.

She raised her tear-filled eyes and looked at the driver inside.

This time, Nicholas didn’t let the driver take him home. He wanted to take his mind off his own wife ever since he returned without saying a word. His mind had already cooked up several images of how Abigail had already fallen in love with his cousin and how they would flee.

It was better that way, but why did his heart burst into flames upon thinking that? Since he didn’t want to feel these things anymore, he avoided talking about her and thus, forgot to even tell his mom about Abigail’s accident.

In any case, wasn’t Asher already there to take care of the woman? She should be fine.

That’s what he thought and busied himself as much as he could. But when he saw the tear-faced Abigail, looking back at him from the outside, his heart stopped as his eyes widened slightly.

She... She was crying?

Who made her cry?

Wasn’t Asher with her?

Nicholas stared at her for a moment before his wife herself took a few steps back and wiped her face. This time, she didn’t glare at him a single moment and rushed past his car, right outside the gate while he continued to sit there like a statue.

He noticed something.

Abigail was all wet and there were traces of blood all over her clothes.

Was this how his cousin meant to take care of his wife?

What a grave mistake he committed! He wanted to hand over his wife to that person?!

All of a sudden, Nicholas’s heart burst out in anger. He could see Asher rushing behind Abigail, completely ignoring his presence.

Nicholas only looked at the man briefly and turned the car around in one go. Then he drove over, stopping the car right in front of Abigail. He lowered the glass and said, "Get inside."
