Chapter 52: The Man who Never Cared For Her

It took a few days for Abigail to be discharged. Asher took full charge of taking care of her during the stay, except for, of course, the bathroom visits. Actually, he also wanted to help her there, sneaking a little sweetness from her.

It was just that Abigail blushed when he asked and refused to look at him for half a day. So he could only let it slide and would find a nurse whenever the woman needed bathroom visits.

As for Nicholas....

He seemed to have disappeared from the face of Earth. Earlier, when Asher said to the man about stealing away his wife, the former thought his cousin would make a scene of at least trying to retain his marriage to Abigail.

Or at least show a few traces of jealousy.

But, to Asher’s surprise, Nicholas seemed to enjoy his life far more after leaving his wife to another man.

What a disappointment! His cousin couldn’t even care about his wife when she was in the hospital. Meanwhile, Abigail was still worried about her dear husband, who hadn’t visited her at all during her stay after he left. At the moment, she didn’t even know where they were going as she rushed outside the main door of the hospital to find a taxi.

"Wait up!" Asher was right behind with several bags in his hand as he said, "Don’t run! Remember what the doctor told you!"

"Yes, but I need to find Nicholas! He hasn’t come to see me!" Abigail spoke anxiously. "What if he really were injured and didn’t tell me because I’d be worried?"

Worried?

Asher sneered.

More like the man was too happy to leave her alone. It seemed like Nicholas had just let go of a burden that had irritated him to no end.

Asher’s face turned dark at that thought. That man didn’t deserve this, or any other woman at all!

He took a deep breath to calm himself down and said, "Abigail, I’ll take you to him." And make you see what kind of sh*tty man you were worried about!

Abigail finally stopped in her tracks before the door and relaxed, smiling. "Asher, let’s go! I want to see him!"

"Yes. Let’s go and see him." Asher knew in his heart that his cousin didn’t want to glance upon this woman’s face, let alone entertain her. He was sure they’d be kicked out of his room.

Ah, Asher didn’t even know whether the man was still staying in this country or not. It would be better for him to go back.

That way, Abigail would surely be disappointed and realize how her husband hated her to death.

Thus, the two of them went back in the cab. The closer they were to the hotel, the more anxious she became.

During her stay, she had thought originally that her mother-in-law would come running to find her and even drag Nicholas by pinching his ears, pulling the man forcibly. Abigail depended on her mother-in-law to see her husband’s face and ensure he was fine.

But neither of them contacted her. Only Asher cared for her throughout that time, even sleeping on the cold chair outside the ward.

Despite being reassured, Abigail felt her heart sinking deeper and deeper into the ocean of sadness. She tried to smile like before, but her sudden mood change made her feel alert.

There was a reason why she had to stay in the asylum at all times. Despite being treated all those years, she still had episodes of mania and depression occasionally. There wasn’t a time when she was normal in a sense.

It had been only a few days since she arrived here, and her excitement was beyond every mania episode she had ever felt. During this time, she would become an extreme narcissist, thinking of herself as the most awesome and perfect of all human beings.

In a sense, she had been in a high mood at all times, looking like someone who had just taken drugs or something.

But her depressive mood would be entirely the opposite, turning suicidal. Of course, it wasn’t that her mood swings had to shift from mania to depression every time. Sometimes, the symptoms were mild because the nurses would take appropriate care of her.

For instance, they wouldn’t let her be surrounded by depressing scenes so that her mood swings would be controlled. Aside from that, she would also be taking her medicines on time, keeping her mind and emotions slightly in control.

But...

Her mood swings were terrible since she hadn’t had her medicines for a while.

A hint of anxiety filled her heart as her fist clenched silently under her sleeves. She knew she would become an even harder person to handle when in this kind of mood. She didn’t want to be depressed anymore. This is when she shouldn’t see any pointed things, especially in her current situation.

She would surely stab herself to death!

Abigail swallowed as she tried to calm herself down, but the flow of her mind continued to drift in the same direction, making her feel increasingly anxious. The more anxious she became, the more her breathing turned faster.

No... She became depressed because of Nicholas! She should try to plot something to get back at him! Becoming entirely depressed wasn’t an idle choice! Aside from that, she should quickly find some medicines without telling others about it.

It’s not that she couldn’t tell others, especially Asher, about her emotional situation. They would surely take care of her situation.

She was about to open her mouth and tell Asher everything before things got worse when Asher pulled out his phone while leading her to his car. He put his finger on his lips and whispered, "I’m calling your husband."

Oh... Her husband....

The man who never cared for her.

Abigail’s mouth closed as she pursed her lips. Maybe they wouldn’t care about it even if she told them. What was the point of telling anyone about it? She was sure Nicholas would forget about her and even refuse to spare her a single glance.

As expected, the man didn’t even pick up Asher’s call. The latter sighed and put his phone back in his pocket. He was about to speak when he turned toward the woman walking beside him and saw her shedding tears as she looked like a lost soul.

Asher was alarmed.
