The Unveiling of Secret Queen-Chapter 205: Holy Crap, What Did He See?_1
The man’s black phone lit up with a soft glow, but the highlight wasn’t the phone call.
It was the photo on the screensaver!
The photo showed a girl in pajamas who looked very young. Her facial features were delicately beautiful, and her skin was very pale; her thin eyelids made her round, bright eyes stand out, and the slight upward tilt at the corners gave her a somewhat mischievous air.
A white, six-pointed star necklace hung around her snow-white neck, the fine diamonds sparkling softly in the light.
There she stood, appearing somewhat uncomfortable, holding a doll in her hand and showing a very faint smile to the camera.
Unbearably cute!
He would recognize that person even with his eyes closed—Nathalie Quinlan!
Audrick Zachmann’s internal alarms blared, feeling as if he had messed up; he utterly failed to understand where this photo came from.
Why would Amadeus’s phone screensaver be of Nathalie?
When was this taken?
He suddenly felt his feet couldn’t hold him any longer, picked up the phone, and headed upstairs.
The second floor was eerily quiet, the door to the central room ajar, darkness inside unlit.
Amadeus Yancey opened the door and tiptoed in, hearing the even breathing of someone sleeping soundly in the bed.
He couldn’t help but think of Nathalie’s hoarse voice when she had just come out of surgery, and his heart ached with compassion; he stood by the bed and bent down to tuck her in.
Nathalie Quinlan was rarely sleeping so soundly.
She was exhausted, too tired even to lift her eyelids, so she didn’t notice someone approaching.
Until, it seemed, a ’mosquito’ kissed her forehead lightly, cool and soft.
That woke her up, and she frowned subconsciously, pressing on her swollen eyes before opening them and asking the blurry figure beside the bed, "...How long have I been asleep?"
Seeing her sit up in bed, the blanket slipping off her, Amadeus Yancey picked the blanket up from the floor, saying, "Not for long, you’ve only slept for a little over an hour."
"The porridge is ready; come down and eat something first, then you can continue to sleep afterward."
Nathalie’s mind slowly started working again, the sleepiness coming and going swiftly, but even after a short rest, she still felt exhausted, disinclined to move.
She sat on the edge of the bed with her eyes closed, gathering herself; eventually, she felt somewhat more alert and told the tall man with long legs, "You go ahead, I’ll take a shower and be right there."
Take a shower and be right there?
In the dark, the man with a distinguished air raised an eyebrow, and a flicker of emotion crossed his pitch-dark eyes. He placed his hands in his pockets, watching her get out of bed to search for clothes in the wardrobe without any hint of embarrassment, his lips curling slightly in a stunned smile.
It seemed he had been too successful in playing the ’good friend’ role!
Successful to the point that she was nearly treating him like an ’uncle’!
This was not a good sign.
"It’s cold outside at night, you can easily catch a chill, so wear something warm when you come down," he said, barely concealing the invasive possessiveness in his gaze. His movements were natural as he walked out, even thoughtfully closing the door for Nathalie.
Outside, Audrick Zachmann, holding his phone, ran smack into him.
His eyes clearly darted away upon seeing him.
"Uh, I came up to return the phone, I didn’t see anything."
Shit, what had he just seen? Audrick’s heart raced; he could scarcely believe his eyes, but he was too embarrassed to mention it. To do so would make it seem like he had intentionally spied.
"Someone called you; they just hung up. You should return their call," Audrick said, stuffing the phone into his arms.
He ran off hurriedly, disappearing at a sprint as if a ghost were chasing him from behind.
