The Unveiling of Secret Queen-Chapter 204: His Phone Screensaver_1
Amadeus Yancey handed Lily over to Alfred Garland, letting him carry the child to bed for sleep.
He then poured a glass of water for Nathalie Quinlan and passed it to her.
His fingers were elegant, making the glass cup look exceptionally clean and charming. Nathalie blinked, her voice hoarse, "Thanks."
She took the cup from his hand, tilted her head back and gulped down the whole glass of water, finally feeling alive again.
She was too tired, so tired that she didn’t even want to speak. She placed the cup on the table and said to the two people in the living room, "I’m going to take a nap."
"Go ahead, I’ll make some porridge for you and call you when it’s ready," Amadeus Yancey said as he took off his trench coat, revealing a black thin sweater underneath. The smooth lines of his waist and abdomen beneath the sweater seemed almost seductive.
Audrick Zachmann frowned repeatedly at the sight.
Unfortunately, Nathalie didn’t have the energy to appreciate it; she was so tired she could die. She grunted acknowledgment and went upstairs.
...
Downstairs.
Audrick Zachmann watched Nathalie go upstairs, and hearing the sound of a door closing from above, he quickly followed the man rolling up his sleeves toward the kitchen.
"Amadeus, what on earth happened this afternoon? How did Edric fall, and why did Nathalie... perform surgery on Edric?"
He had been terrified when he first heard in the evening that Nathalie Quinlan had performed surgery on Edric Yancey.
Edric Yancey was the Yancey family’s precious child; if the surgery went wrong, how could Nathalie take responsibility?
Amadeus Yancey took pig liver and shrimp out of the fridge, sidestepped Audrick carrying the items into the kitchen, and expertly tied on an apron. He then rinsed the freshly removed items under running water.
All the while, he listened to Audrick chattering non-stop in his ear, "Amadeus, pay attention to me, will you? What exactly happened here?"
Amadeus Yancey finely chopped the washed shrimp with a knife; his hands were beautiful, with evenly spaced bones and not an ounce of superfluous flesh, and his fingers were slender, making cooking a visually pleasing experience.
Unfortunately, this serene sight in the eyes of Audrick, whose nose was nearly flaring with impatience, made him want to snatch the knife away.
"Amadeus!"
Amadeus Yancey, irritated by his incessant noise, filled a clay pot with water, added rice, turned on the stove’s flame, and a gentle blue flame burned quietly above the clay pot.
It was only then that he turned to face the person in the kitchen, leaning against the cabinet and saying, "Edric fell down the staircase at the hospital. The person with him insisted it was an accident, so I need to investigate to clarify how he really fell."
Audrick Zachmann: "Nathalie..."
He had barely opened his mouth when Amadeus Yancey, as if knowing what he was going to ask, narrowed his predatory eyes and, with a husky voice, spoke, "As for Nathalie Quinlan, we have her to thank for Edric’s safety today."
So, in effect, he said nothing at all.
Audrick Zachmann remained as confused as ever about what had happened that afternoon, Amadeus Yancey had already shooed him out of the kitchen.
Being chased out of the kitchen, Audrick Zachmann felt restless, wanting to find someone to ask, but in the spacious villa, there wasn’t a soul or even a ghost to give him the time of day.
He sat on the sofa for a while, watching the man in the kitchen finish cooking the porridge, then heading upstairs.
He got up swiftly.
Intending to follow him.
To ask again.
Suddenly, he saw the phone Amadeus left on the table light up; it looked like someone was calling him.
"Who is it, calling at this late hour?" Audrick Zachmann mumbled as he walked over, picked up the phone, and his smile instantly tightened.
Amadeus’s phone screen saver...
