the two-faced Adopted Girl Who Melted CEO's Ice-Cold Heart-Chapter 998: This Marriage Was Agreed Upon from the Start, So Why Are They Making So Many Excuses?
Crystal Landon felt a bit surprised, just thinking that her parents were being overly presumptuous. Richard Shaw was a Major General and wielded immense power. The Shaw Family had been a prestigious family since the founding of the country; her Landon Family was simply not on the same level. Not to mention that their daughter wasn’t married into the family yet, even if she were, given the disparity in status, if others showed respect, it was out of courtesy. Her parents acting so high and mighty made her feel a bit irritated.
Moreover, when she returned, she saw that Grandma Shaw’s attitude was quite kind, yet her father only smiled apologetically and kept looking at his watch, looking as if he was in a hurry.
If these weren’t her parents, she might have slapped them.
As expected, Richard Shaw slightly furrowed his brow but said nothing.
"Grandma, what were you talking about?" Richard Shaw asked, sitting next to the old lady.
"We were just discussing your marriage to Crystal, setting a preliminary schedule and gradually preparing. You’re at the Military District, and I’m just an old woman, preparations are slow, so we need to plan ahead. Crystal has to study, otherwise, I would feel at ease leaving it to her," said Grandma Shaw with a smile.
Pearl Landon walked over, somewhat dismissively. Is this old lady of the Shaw Family senile? Crystal is just a little girl who doesn’t know anything. Such an important event usually intimidates even the wives of established families, as hosting is a significant matter with many nuances, and a single mistake could lead to ridicule.
Richard Shaw’s gaze slightly deepened as he held the old lady’s hand and said in a low voice, "No rush, it will be fine once I transfer back to the Imperial City."
He didn’t really agree or disagree with the suggestion.
Pearl Landon could barely sit still upon hearing this and smiled, "If Major General Shaw transfers back to the Imperial City, things will indeed be much more convenient. Grandma Shaw, you don’t have to worry too much."
No one responded to Pearl Landon’s comment. Crystal felt a bit embarrassed and stood up, saying, "I’m heading home; I have a lot of homework to do today, Grandma. I’ll come to see you again on the weekend."
If she listened anymore, she might just throw a punch.
Crystal returned to her room, grabbed her backpack, and left, leaving all the belongings she had brought untouched. She was focused on her studies now; as long as she had books, she was fine, and she’d buy whatever else she needed.
"Why is this child in such a hurry?" Crystal’s mother chuckled awkwardly, seeing Crystal with her backpack, and since the Shaw Family didn’t invite them for dinner, had to stand up and leave.
Once Crystal got into the car, she put on her headphones to listen to English lessons, buried herself in reasing, ignoring everyone.
After the Landon Family left, Grandma Shaw’s smile faded a bit, instructing the housekeeper not to prepare so much food for dinner. Originally, she wanted to keep the Landon Family for dinner, but after seeing their attitude and hearing their words once Crystal returned, she felt displeased.
Once her grandson went to take a bath, the old lady put on her reading glasses, looked at Mrs. Zhao, and asked, "What do you think?"
Mrs. Zhao, being an old hand beside the old lady, smiled upon hearing and said, "Maybe they feel Miss Crystal is too young and want to keep her for a couple more years. Don’t think too much, old lady, you know the Landon Family. If they were smart, they wouldn’t be stuck in such a situation for all these years."
Even though Grandma Shaw had been offering discreet support over the years, yet the Landon Family couldn’t get anywhere, not even reaching the status of an up-and-coming family, it was just hopeless.
The old lady hummed lightly, saying, "I don’t see it like that. It’s quite clear they don’t want Crystal to marry over. This marriage was settled a long time ago, but they can’t make the decision. Why are they making all these excuses now?"
