Chapter 997: Chapter 997: Could Her Mother Really Think She Would Give This Marriage to Pearl Landon?

Mr. Landon sat on the sofa, smiling quietly without speaking.

Mrs. Landon seemed more enthusiastic than usual.

The old Mrs. Shaw waved Crystal Landon over and smiled, "Are you hungry? I’ll have Mrs. Zhao fix you something to eat, and then we’ll have dinner later."

"I’m not hungry." Crystal Landon sat beside the old lady, reaching out to hold her slightly withered hand, feeling a touch of softness in her heart. Perhaps relationships between people are destined, elusive, and not something you can seek out. Her mother only thought of her once every half month, and when she did, it was to weigh her down with words, not caring about how she was doing, or why she would rather stay outside than come home. Yet, Grandma Shaw was the one who cared for her in every way possible.

Crystal saw Pearl Landon standing at the door and smiled slightly; it was probably to wait for Richard Shaw.

"Your parents said they came to take you home. Do you want to continue staying here, or go back?" the old lady sought her opinion.

"I’ll go home first and come back to accompany Grandma after some time," Crystal replied with a smile. If she continued to stay, Pearl would likely come by every day for the next half month.

"That sounds good, too," the old lady smiled, glancing at Mrs. Landon. "Crystal isn’t young anymore. We should pick a date and schedule the wedding. It will take more than half a year to prepare, considering the location of the new house, how many guests to invite, and other issues like the dowry."

Mrs. Landon’s face was a bit stiff, as she smiled, "Crystal is still young and hasn’t even started college yet."

"You can still go to school after getting married," the old lady said with a smile. "Richard is of age now, and the sooner he marries and has children, the more at ease I’ll be."

Mr. and Mrs. London exchanged a look, smiling somewhat awkwardly. "We’ll go home and discuss it."

Crystal watched indifferently, seeing Pearl’s face turning pale, while her parents also seemed displeased, as if they weren’t happy about marrying their daughter into the Shaw family.

"Crystal, what do you think?" Mrs. Landon asked with a smile.

Crystal was a bit taken aback and found it somewhat amusing. Did her mother think she would give this marriage to Pearl? Not to mention she liked Richard Shaw; just because Pearl and they liked him, she had to give him up?

"I’ll listen to Grandma Shaw and get married soon so I can accompany her," Crystal smiled innocently, appearing naive.

Mrs. Landon felt a little stifled by this response. Wasn’t this girl supposed to love having fun the most? Why was she willing to get married so early?

The old Mrs. Shaw was very pleased, patting Crystal’s hand. All the affection she had given since childhood had not been in vain.

Just then, Pearl excitedly exclaimed, "Richard, you’re back?"

Richard Shaw returned in his military uniform. He had been at the Imperial City Military District these past few days and could not wear civilian clothes, but he didn’t wear any badges either, moving around casually. Eventually, he would be transferred back to the Imperial City, so he was getting familiar in advance.

Richard Shaw was naturally handsome and distant. The military’s iron-blooded aura diminished his facial features’ attractiveness, giving off an impersonal aloofness.

Richard nodded at Pearl before entering the house, realizing the Landons were visiting today. After hanging up his coat, he approached them with a courteous greeting.

The Landon parents quickly responded with polite smiles, but didn’t even stand up, accepting Richard’s greeting with a sense of entitlement clearly visible in their expressions.
