The Top Omega Hunter Wants a Quiet Life [BL]-Chapter 84: Ch : Pay A Visit- Part 2
"Tsk, my makeup got ruined again because I had to pretend to cry over that annoyance. At least we get paid good money to do all this."
Kyle’s aunt cursed as she re-applied her makeup for her next interview.
At this point, it was a routine for her to always do her makeup in a way that made her look sad and mourning. That way, people would be even more sympathetic toward her.
"Hmm, just make sure not to overdo it. And remember what the association asked us to do. We need to sell our act as natural and make sure to put the blame on Ace."
Kyle’s uncle emphasized this to his wife as he got ready for his interview as well.
Unlike his wife, he was dressed rather plainly and had no makeup on. That was his role to play in the drama that he and his wife had weaved.
The only person not constantly being interviewed was their son. But that was because he was too busy with his real-life job.
Being Ace’s cousin had opened a lot of doors for him and many companies had offered him a position. And their son had taken the one that offered him the most benefits and had ended up as chairman.
They were a happy family, built on the sacrifice of just one person. A person that was supposed to be dead and thus, become their cash cow forever.
"Hey, do you think Ace would come back to take revenge against us? What if he tried to tell the world that he doesn’t even know us that well? All our reputation..."
Kyle’s aunt spoke in a scared voice as she tried to map out the possibility of things going wrong. This was a fear she had cultivated ever since she got the information that Ace was back.
But unlike her, her husband did not seem to be that worried.
"Ha-! There is nothing to be worried about regarding Ace. You might not remember, but I remember Ace perfectly. He was a docile little thing, willing to do anything to earn our affection. Nature like that doesn’t change easily."
Kyle’s uncle assured his wife. But seeing how his wife was still not convinced, he decided to add more to convince her.
"I am sure we can get that child to listen to us. We have also built a strong foundation showing that we care for Ace. I am sure we would be just fine."
Kyle’s aunt finally looked convinced, but not because she believed her husband. She was convinced because she was already in this mess.
What more could she do to even step out? There was only digging deeper for her at this point.
"Alright, I get your point. Let’s go to the interview..."
She told her husband and they arrived at the set. But as soon as they came near it, they saw that there was no set or people to greet them.
In fact, the studio seemed to be busy shooting something else.
"Hey, what is going on here? We were scheduled for an interview..."
Kyle’s uncle asked and one of the production crew members recognized him and gave him an awkward look.
"Huh-! Did no one tell you? That was canceled. We need to go and shoot exclusive footage of the new dungeon that opened near Luminous Guild. We have no time for people like you."
The crew member told Kyle’s uncle and he looked angry.
"What about the money—"
"I don’t know. Please talk to your sponsor. I need to go now."
The man was gone before the pair could know any more. But this made them panic because this had not happened before.
Ace had been too important for masses to ignore and even with an emergency, their interview was usually taken and then postponed for later.
The fact that they had not even been asked to sit down was concerning enough.
"D-Darling, what do we do now? Do you think Ace told them all—"
The aunt looked panicked and her husband clutched her shoulder to calm her down.
"Don’t worry. I am sure everything is fine. I did hear about that sudden dungeon opening up in the city as well. I am sure our time will come once that dungeon is taken care of. For now, we should head back home."
Kyle’s uncle assured his wife and they headed toward their car.
As soon as they sat down, the driver started to drive them. But instead of taking them back home, he took them toward the forest.
By the time the pair realized what was happening, it was too late.
"Tsk, you idiot-! Just where did you bring us? Do you think you will be fine after kidnapping us like that? Don’t you know who we are?"
Kyle’s uncle threatened the driver but the driver only kept driving until he finally stopped and the married pair got out of their car.
"That’s it-! I am going to call the police—"
"Sure, go ahead. I would like to see how they are going to catch me as well."
That familiar voice stopped Kyle’s uncle from making the call and he suddenly went blank-faced. The aunt was not in any better condition as they watched the driver come out of his section and a familiar mask greeted them.
"Hello, uncle, aunty. It has been ages since we last met. Hmm, I don’t think I have seen you since the day you sold me off. How was our separation for you?"
The pair looked too shaken to speak as they watched Ace take a step toward them.
And suddenly, the aunt yelled and cried.
"I-it was not my idea. Your uncle and the association... yes, they were the ones who told me what to do. It is not my fault, so do not harm me."
The aunt seemed to be having a mental breakdown as she tried to convey that she was not at fault.
But Ace ignored her and turned toward her uncle.
"Uncle, do you have anything to say for yourself?"
Ace asked and his uncle paused before he decided to speak as well.
"A-Ace, you have to understand. We did this for your own good. At that time, we really had nothing to eat and I was afraid for you and your cousin’s future. What happened was the best outcome we could have hoped for."
The uncle assured Ace, trying his best to sound calm and caring.
But Ace just looked bored of their words.
"Hmm, then in that case, do you know my name? I’m not talking about Ace, but my real name."
He asked the pair and they paused to think.
"Your real name... did you have another name besides Ace?"
His aunt questioned with a straight face and Ace just let out a chuckle before he gave her a look of blankness.
"I see. So this is what your care amounts to? Not that I expected anything different. Ah, don’t worry. I am not going to do anything to you both. At least, not yet. You both deserve a chance to atone after all."
Ace told the pair and they stiffened, waiting for his next words.
