Chapter 61: Ch 61: Danger- Part 1

"Tsk, stop running away and allow me to hit you."

Joshua yelled out in a frustrated voice as he went after the alpha that had ruined his trust and also his team.

Klein Smith was a son-of-a-bitch who pretended to be all nice and sweet to get close to him and gain a foot in the hunter’s circuit. But once he was in and made his connections, he threw away Joshua and the others like they did not matter.

And that was something that Joshua felt deep in his soul. The betrayal stung badly, and it made him want to tear someone apart.

"Tsk, you act like you are any better? How many people did you reject just because they did not meet your ’standard’? The only reason you took me in your team was because you liked my face. Aren’t you worse than me in that regard?"

Klein asked and Joshua felt himself get annoyed even more.

"Shut up-!" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

The reason Joshua was so annoyed was because Klein had hit a sensitive mark on his ego.

Joshua was a bit of a fascist and liked people based on their faces a lot more than personality. But he was trying to change slowly now. Especially after he had been betrayed this deeply by Klein.

"Anyway, would you stop trying to hurt me? We both know your attacks can’t touch me. It would be better for you not to try."

The alpha taunted back as he disappeared between trees and avoided the attack. He was untouchable and he knew it.

"I can hit you. Just sit still and I will-"

Joshua was cut off mid-sentence as he suddenly felt an intense presence heading his way. His pause caused Klein to stop as well.

"What’s wrong? Have you changed your mind about me? What? Are you too scared-"

The alpha did not get to finish his sentence when a huge arm-like something collided with Joshua and the omega went flying because of it.

But the black appendage did not stop after making Joshua cry out in pain. It went after Klein next.

Luckily for the alpha, he was able to dodge by making himself melt in the ground and missing the attack completely. But Joshua was not as lucky and he twitched where he was lying on the ground, now completely motionless.

"H-Hey, Joshua, are you alright? Are you hurt-! Hey, answer me."

The alpha panicked as he made his way to the fallen omega and reached out toward him with trembling arms.

But Joshua did not react or give him a reply. The omega was totally out of it and bleeding badly. At this rate, even his life would be in danger.

"Tsk, don’t scare me like that. You need to open your eyes and tell me you are fine. Hey, you are too stubborn to get hurt like this. Joshua-"

The alpha cried once more, but there was no response from the unconscious omega in his arms. Times were beginning to get dire now and the alpha had no choice but to pick up the omega and make a run for it.

"Where is your emergency escape device? Everyone is given one, right? Where-"

The alpha was too rattled to think rationally. So he was not able to find what he wanted to.

"D-Don’t touch me-"

That was all Joshua was able to say when he opened his eyes and saw the alpha fussing over him.

"N-Now is not the time to be saying that. Don’t you know your own condition? You are injured badly and... oh god-! The blood won’t stop-!"

The alpha was getting more and more nervous by the second. He had never wanted Joshua to die and now that the omega was so close to death, he no longer knew what to do.

And then, he sensed someone heading toward him at a furious pace and he got ready to defend Joshua.

He might have been the asshole that decided to leave Joshua and not look back, but he still cared for him... at least enough to not want to see him die.

"Come out, whoever you are, and face me."

Klein called and the next second, he was thrown back by someone’s blade colliding with his own weapon.

The massive force of the attack pushed him back and when he looked up, he saw a familiar mask. The person who attacked him was the new teammate Joshua had picked up.

"Did you do that to Joshua? Did you hurt him?"

The new omega asked and Joshua felt tongue-tied and terrified.

He was someone who had faced top alphas in the hunter industry, but he had never felt tongue-tied and terrified like this. It was as if he was about to be killed if he lied to the omega in front of him.

"I-I... of course not-! I did not... there is something out there that hurt Joshua and I was just trying to get him to safety."

The alpha promised with a shaky voice. He was willing to put anything on the line in order to prove his words as the truth.

Finally, the omega in front of him believed him as he lowered his weapon and paid attention to his surroundings. He seemed to have sensed the threat as well.

Seconds later, Lynn, the top hunter, joined them as well. He jumped down from the tree and his eyes narrowed as he looked in the same direction the omega was looking at.

"Looks like there is something out there that could be a danger to us all. We should inform the hunter’s association and have most teams retreat for now. We cannot risk everyone’s safety for the sake of a small competition."

Lynn sounded confident but Klein felt his heart skip a beat.

"We cannot cancel the championship. There is so much that has been staked on it. What about all the money and investment the teams made-"

"It’s worthless if you lose your life. All the money and resources might look like a decent deal to you for now, but that’s only because you do not know the true horrors and dangers of being a hunter. You should be grateful and take your leave now."

Lynn warned the hunter and the young alpha went quiet.

What would he even say when the former rank #1 was telling him this? He was more than qualified to talk about all this.

"For now, I will call the association and tell them what happened and that they need to retreat... tsk, my communicator is not working. What about you all?"

The rank #2 alpha asked and the other two people took out their communicators as well. But as expected, they were not working at all.

"There must be something in the forest that is hindering our communication with the outside. We better go and look around for now. Hey, you-! Grab the unconscious omega and protect him with your life. We both will make sure to clear the way for you going forward."

Joshua was picked up and the trio + the unconscious omega started to move deeper into the forest. Their only hope was to find all six hidden flags and trigger the alarm in the association.
