Chapter 54: Ch 54: Cornered - Part 5

"Hey, what is wrong with you? Are you not going to go in? Tsk, is this place too smelly for an omega like you or something?"

The alpha who stepped behind me asked as I held my place right outside the door. The alpha pheromones in the air were making him more aggressive than usual... not that I knew that for a fact.

But I could see most alphas in the room shifting around as they looked at each other.

’If I go inside now, I would get jumped for sure. Is this an error or is this someone’s malicious intent?’

I questioned as I finally took a step forward.

The person in charge came forward and gave me a quick look-over. I noticed that his eyes held an almost sinister look in them when he looked at me.

"So you are Joshua’s teammate... I mean, Manet? I apologize that you got assigned here but the other omega rooms were full. I hope you won’t mind this mishap. You just need to wait for your turn and you can leave."

The person in charge told me as I entered the room.

"So, does that mean I can finish first, and then leave?"

I asked the person in charge, just to try my luck. But the man just blinked at me before he sighed.

"I am sorry, but things don’t work that way and you know it. You will have to wait for your turn, and that is somewhere at the end. I am sure you won’t cause us any trouble because of this... for your own sake."

The person in charge did not come out and threaten me, but his words were almost a threat. He was warning me that if I did something stupid, then he would make things difficult for me... not that I minded them trying to do this.

"I understand. Then, I will wait for my turn."

I told the person in charge and his smile became even wider. He gestured for me to sit beside one of the biggest alphas I had ever seen in terms of mass.

The alpha easily occupied two chairs—his and my own—and I had no choice but to stand.

The person in charge clearly did not seem to like it, and he frowned.

"I asked you to please sit. If you continue to be like this, then I would have to mark you up for disobedience."

The in charge told me and I rolled my eyes before I headed toward the alpha and glared at him.

The huge alpha got my message and he stood up, allowing me my seat.

"Hey, what are you doing—"

The person in charge asked me and the huge alpha, but the huge alpha just took a step back and refused to speak up.

"Mister Manet, if you continue to cause trouble like this, then I will have no choice but to call the authorities—"

"Sure, go ahead and call them. I am sure you would have a hard time explaining to the media why you stuck a lone omega in a room filled with all these alphas."

I told him and the person in charge lost it.

"Tsk, you stupid omega don’t seem to understand what is going on here. Let me tell you—there is a strong person behind me who wants you gone. So I am asking you to leave before I have to force you. If not, then I am sure all these alphas will have a fun time with you."

The person in charge told me and I had a sudden feeling that these alphas around me were not real participants.

’Fuck—! Why do these things happen to me?’

I sighed and the in charge lost it and signaled for an alpha to grab me. I dodged the alpha and took out a small vial from the inventory.

Since I was the only one wearing a mask, I broke the vial and the person in charge looked beyond shocked.

"What is that... what are you..."

He asked before the smell hit him and he collapsed along with every alpha in the room.

"Tsk, weaklings. They wanted to go after me when they cannot even take care of themselves?"

I questioned, removing my mask to smell the pheromones. The air was getting clearer, so I moved toward the person in charge to look at his system.

Usually, people were not able to see, much less influence, others’ systems, but as the number #1 hunter, there were exceptions and privileges offered to me that allowed this.

’I wonder if Lynn also got to enjoy these privileges when he was no.1 on the hunter’s rankings. I would have to ask him.’

It took me a full minute to approve myself on the list and I picked myself up to head out.

Just as I opened the door to leave, someone else entered from the other side. The female beta looked shocked to see the scene behind me and I quickly covered my face.

But it was already too late because the female beta saw me.

"Y-Y-You—! Why are you here? Did you come back—?"

The female asked and I struggled to remember who the female was. I was sure I had seen her before, but my brain did not recall her name.

"Director Rose, where are you—"

"DON’T COME HERE. I will come to meet you once I’m done."

As soon as I heard her name, recognition flashed in my mind. Now I recalled why she looked familiar.

’She used to be one of the lower-end directors back when I was still in the association. Seems like she did well enough for herself.’

"A-Are you here because we made someone pretend to be Ace?"

Rose asked and I decided to answer her.

"I could not care for anything you mentioned. Ah, but I suppose it would be a problem for you if what happened here were to get out, right? I am sure you knew what these people were planning."

The guilt and discomfort on Rose’s face told me that she knew fully well what these people were planning to do to me.

At the same time, she likely thought that it was none of her business what happened to an omega like me.

’Had I not been powerful enough to defend myself, would this incident have been buried by the association? Tsk, I already knew these people were shady, but there should be a limit.’

I walked past Rose and her face twisted.

"H-Hey, you do know that we did what we did because we care for humanity. The world needed Ace to be shown to have hope, so that’s what we did. And today’s incident... It was an accident. I am sure you understand."

Rose spoke in a way that showed her desperation. She likely thought of me as a mindless fool who would agree with her.

"Look, miss, I don’t care what you do from here since I have no intention of going back to the association. You are even welcome to continue with your fake ’Ace’ agenda as well. But do not get in my way or I will come forward and end the association."

I warned Rose and she nodded.

Before I left, I gave her one final warning.

"Oh, one last thing. If I hear that something like what happened today happens again, I won’t even give you a chance to explain yourself. Next time, I will finish the association myself."
