The Top Omega Hunter Wants a Quiet Life [BL]-Chapter 53: Ch : Cornered - Part 4
[Ready...3...2...1...start]
The system gave us time to start and I immediately picked up the pen to write the test. Answers fell into my mind before I even finished reading them.
[Trait: Genius is in effect]
Once I was finished, I looked over the test and realized that I had filled it up a little too well. I did not want to stand out, and handing in a perfect score sheet was not the way.
So I went back and purposely marked some questions as wrong before I looked up and noticed that no one else was done.
[Time: 45 minutes left]
Out of the one hour we got for this test, I had only used 15 minutes, so I had a lot of free time I did not know how to use now.
’What did one do in their free time anyway? I cannot stand up and I have nothing to do.’
I could have opened the system and surfed the hunter net, but I had a feeling that would be a dead giveaway that I was done.
So I just needed to wait and get bored until someone else finished and handed the paper in before me.
After all, I did not want to be one of the first people to exit, but I did not want to be the last.
My boredom lasted another 15 minutes before someone finally finished, handed the paper in, and left the test room. I debated whether I wanted to follow or not, but then I watched another person finish and then another.
Slowly, more than half the people left, so I felt safe leaving as well.
I realized I made the right decision as soon as I exited the room. Reporters had surrounded the other people already, even before I showed up.
"-Excuse me, sir. How was the written round this time—"
"-We have reports from sources that there was a ’special section’—"
"-Do you have confidence that you will pass this round—"
The reporters were everywhere. It almost looked like every participant had their own reporter.
I decided to make a run for it before I could be caught, and I lowered my presence to do that. I managed to make it quite far when I came across a dilemma—I was going to bump into someone.
The hallway was too crowded, and the reporters were making it even more crowded.
So I decided to risk it and make a run for it.
I collided with someone, and the last thing I saw was Lee Minho’s startled face as I ran past him.
Fortunately, it did not seem as if he had recognized me, so that made things easier for me as I opened my hotel door and entered.
I was the first one back, but it did not take long for Sasha and Amy to return either. They both looked exhausted but happy with the result of the competition.
"Manet, how did the quiz go? It went well for us. I knew the answers to most questions and so did Amy. Oh, boss and Sam are not back yet? I was so sure they would have been done way before us."
Sasha spoke in a fast manner, but I understood everything she said.
Amy rubbed Sasha’s back with a fond look on her face.
"Slow down when you speak, Sasha. It is difficult for anyone to know what you are saying at this rate. And boss will be here soon enough. He must have been held back by the media... again. People really like his face."
Sasha assured her, and Amy gave her a searching look that asked, ’Are you serious?’
Even I felt like Amy was trying to be positive, but this was too much.
"It would be more accurate to say that the media likes our boss’s outbursts more than his face. But you are right. He will be back soon—"
No sooner had Amy spoken, the door slammed open and Joshua entered with a seething face. Amy moved toward him to ask what happened, but Ben signaled for her not to do anything and let Joshua go to his room.
Once Joshua was gone, Amy turned toward Ben.
"So, what happened?"
Ben looked uncomfortable, but he sighed and moved his hand through his hair before speaking.
"We ran into Attacus and things got... heated. Joshua almost lost it before I grabbed him and brought him back."
Ben told us, and both Amy and Sasha took in sharp breaths.
I was the only one who was clueless, but I could piece together the context clues. Ben noticed me and decided to answer me anyway.
"Attacus used to be a former teammate of ours, but he left us for ’better opportunities’ in the middle of the championship last time. Anyway, you don’t need to worry about him because we won’t run into him again... hopefully."
The last part was said under Ben’s breath, but I heard it clearly.
"Anywayyyyy, the results will be out in a short while, so we can wait for them. How did you do on them, Ben?"
Sasha changed the subject quickly, and Ben turned his attention toward her as well. I relaxed my shoulders and sat down.
I closed my eyes, relaxed on the sofa, and only opened them when I heard the beeping sound of the system.
"AH—the results are out. Let’s check them."
Sasha exclaimed, and I opened the system. 90/100. That was my score, and I looked at my marked answers.
The results were exactly what I had predicted, and the ones I had gotten wrong on purpose were the only ones wrong.
"Woah—! Our team scored really high. Manet, were you secretly a genius or something? Your score is almost as good as our boss’s."
Sasha exclaimed as she looked at our team score, and indeed, Joshua had scored a 94/100. The rest of the team was not shabby either, with their 70–80 scores.
Overall, our team was not at the top but not at the bottom either. We were safe from elimination.
"Oh, this—? I just like to read books and other stuff in my free time, and I naturally gathered some information. I was surprised to see the test paper as well."
I lied through my teeth and made my voice sound as if I was shocked as well.
Sasha believed my lies and her eyes went wide.
"I-I see. So we got lucky, huh? But even luck is a skill. But we should not take it easy. The hard part is starting now. We need to go through a fitness test next."
Sasha reminded us all, and I nodded.
I was going to do the same in the fitness test—hold myself back. But then I entered the room and felt my eyes twitch as I smelled the intense alpha pheromones in the air.
I could immediately tell that most people in the section with me were alphas.
’What the hell—! Didn’t they look at my report? I am an omega. How can they stick me in a room filled with alphas like this? Isn’t this a violation of rules or something? It can cause an accident.’
It was common sense to separate alphas and omegas during these times. Unfortunately, someone looked to have been deprived of common sense here.
