Chapter 55: Ch 55: Next Round- Part 1

I left the shaking female all alone and went back to my room. As soon as my body hit the pillow, I relaxed and closed my eyes.

The day had not even been that hectic but I felt drained already.

’Oh god—! Don’t tell me that I am that washed? Usually, what happened today wouldn’t even have been something noticeable for me.’

I complained, but I did not get up from bed to check out what happened. Instead, I focused on feeling better and relaxed my body.

Somehow, I was also the first person back from my examination and I decided to call Emma and Ben to keep up my façade with them.

I was not adept at using a phone, but Emma had insisted I keep one, so I had bought one. But the phone she had bought was collecting dust in the corner of my bag now.

I fished it out and decided to call Emma first.

Ring

"Hello, Kyle—? You are calling me...? Did something happen? Do you need my help?"

She picked up within the first two rings but instead of sounding glad to hear from me, she sounded confused and startled.

Her worry startled me as well and I quickly assured her that nothing was wrong.

"Ah, no—! Everything is fine. There is no need for you to panic. I just called you to ask how you were doing."

I told the female on the other side and only then did Emma calm down.

"O-Oh, I see. For a second, I thought you were in danger and wanted my help. But it’s nice to hear that you are fine. Both Ben and I are doing fine as well. We are waiting for the real championship to start this evening." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

Emma told me and she sounded much lighter now. The worry that had been present in her voice seconds ago was no longer there.

"Hmm, that’s good... what about Theo? Do you know what is going on with him? Is he feeling better now?"

I asked Emma since she and Ben were my only source of connection with that alpha.

"Oh Theo—? He should be fine. The last thing both Ben and I heard was that he made it to the vacation house without problems and he is living there without any problems. He will be back the same time we all would be back home."

Emma assured me and I felt a little bit better after hearing that.

The conversation turned much lighter after that and we continued to talk until I felt the door opening, indicating that others were back as well.

"Emma, I will call you some other time. I need to head out now."

I told Emma and she made a disappointed noise. But I knew that if I did not end the call now, then Emma would keep going for another hour, talking about meaningless things.

"Ugh, finally... it’s over. I thought I was going to kill someone when they stuck me in that mixed room. It was so annoying."

Joshua complained as he came back. The scent of mixed pheromones filled the air but I was strong enough to resist it and go out to meet my team.

"How was the second round?"

I asked, more for the sake of politeness than actual interest.

"Ugh, don’t even ask. I don’t know who makes these brackets, but they sure are annoying. Anyway, I am going to take a bath. I need to get rid of these pheromones."

Joshua complained and hogged the bathroom first.

Poor Sasha was left all uncomfortable as well. But unlike Joshua, she mostly smelled of omega pheromones.

Amy and Sam were lucky that they could not smell pheromones because they reeked as well. But being betas, they did not seem to know that.

"You both should spray some pheromone cleaner on you as well."

I told the pair what Sasha seemed too shy to tell them. They both looked startled but complied with my request.

Within an hour, we were all cleaned up and waiting for the results from our examination.

I received mine first and the screen simply said that [I passed]. Not that I had any other expectations. Even if the person in charge wanted to fail me, he wouldn’t have been able to do much because of Rose. She seemed to have taken my warning to heart at least.

"W-What are the results for you, Manet? Did you pass?"

Sasha asked and I nodded.

"Yeah, I passed. What about you all?"

I asked for the sake of formality.

"We all passed as well. With it, the real competition will start next. We should get ready. I will tell you what the next competition will be."

Joshua stood up and went out of the room. Then, he rolled in a whiteboard and a pair of markers to ’inform me’ what the next round would be.

"The next round will be an individual round. We will all be transported to a different segment—hunters in hunter segments and civilians to the civilian segments—and we need to make it to the final stage within the allotted time."

Joshua made marks on the whiteboard when he explained this. His gestures felt extravagant and unnecessary, but I did not point it out.

Sam noticed my deadpan look and decided to nudge me.

"Just nod and go with Joshua’s actions. He is usually too stressed and this is his way of unwinding. Just... give him this much for now."

Sam told me and I relaxed my shoulders.

"-Kyle, did you understand the next part?"

Joshua asked me, having realized that I had zoned out halfway. But unlucky for him, I was too well-trained to not retain information, even when I was not paying attention.

"Yeah, I got it. So the next round of the championship is a timed race but the starting point would be random and we need to make it to the finish line individually."

I told Joshua and he looked tongue-tied. He had clearly not expected me to remember what he had told me, but because I remembered, he did not know what to say to me anymore.

"Y-You... that’s right. That is the next part of the championship. We will all be transported to our starting lines within the next hour so be ready."

Joshua warned me and I nodded.

Since I had some time, I decided to get something to eat from the pantry. But as soon as I grabbed the bread, I felt a tingling sensation in the pit of my stomach.

"Fuck—! It’s starting already?"

I heard Sam yell loudly and before I knew it, my body had been teleported to a new location. I was surrounded by walls when I opened my eyes and let out a large groan as I realized that there was no light around me.

"Tsk, not a dark room again. What is with these games and dark rooms?"

I questioned, recalling some of the traps in the dungeons that caused me to fall in a similar place. I was sure that those traps were where the association had gotten the idea for this kind of trap from.

But that did not make my dislike for these places any less.
