Chapter 31: Ch 31: Become my Partner - Part 3

Ben was a hard worker and because of that, he had been able to meet Emma and open such a successful café right in front of Luminous guild.

He and his wife were some of the biggest investors in some top guilds and had a lot of money and influence.

But they mostly liked to spend their time in the café and relaxing.

However, their calm life had been disturbed by something...or rather someone these past few days....not that the poor souls were to blame.

Kyle had arrived first.

He was someone Emma had saved by taking him to the hospital. Both she and Ben had never expected to meet him again, but they had.

And as if it was ordained by fate, they had accepted him into their lives. Then Kyle had brought Theo into their lives, and things seemed to have shifted.

Theo was someone who said he had no memory of his past and always seemed to wear a puppy-like expression when Kyle was with him.

But once he was all alone, there was an air of danger around him that made Ben flinch and almost not want to approach him.

He felt...different from normal humans and alphas. But he did not feel like a hunter either. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

Rather, he felt like a bomb that was about to go off any second, and the only one holding him together was Kyle.

Even now, as Theo worked around the café with a smile on his face, there was something dangerous about it.

Ben could even swear he could see Theo’s eyes flashing red for a second. But that could also be a trick of light.

’Maybe I am feeling threatened by Theo’s presence because he’s another alpha that lives in close proximity to me and is not related to me by blood. After all, neither Emma nor Kyle seem to feel anything wrong with him.’

Speaking of Kyle...he was another oddity Ben could not make out what to think about. He was an omega and a civilian...or so he said. But truthfully, the way he carried himself did not make him seem like an ordinary person.

But at least he did not feel threatening like Theo did.

’Ugh, I don’t know what to think about this. Is this all in my head? Am I being more sensitive than I should be?’

"Ben, I am done here. What should I do next?"

Theo asked Ben while Ben was in deep thought. It startled Ben enough to make him drop the pitcher of water he was carrying.

Ben sighed as he watched water spill everywhere. But before he could get to cleaning it up, he needed to give Theo another task to keep him busy.

"Theo, can you serve tables 4 and 5 for now? I will need to mop this place before someone slips and falls here."

Ben called, and Theo moved to follow his orders. Ben remained tense until Theo was back to work, and only then did he turn his head and go back to work.

About 15 minutes later, he watched as Theo looked at the clock and he had a blank expression on his face. Ben decided to call him before anything could happen.

"Theo, is something wrong? Your expression doesn’t look so good."

There was silence around them for a good minute before Theo opened his mouth.

"Kyle is late. He told me he would be back in 15 minutes. It’s been over an hour by now."

That was true. It had been over an hour since Kyle left. But since he had not called, Ben had assumed that this was normal.

"Don’t worry too much about it. Maybe Kyle got stuck in traffic or there was some dungeon opening that caused him to be late. He’ll be back soon."

Ben assured, but Theo did not look convinced, almost as if he knew none of that had happened.

The air turned dangerous and alpha pheromones dominated them. They were strong enough to even make Ben and a few customers gag.

Luckily, just before any accidents could happen, the door to the café opened and Kyle walked in. He paused, noticing the intense air inside, and Theo’s mood changed within seconds.

Gone was his dangerous air, and instead, a puppy-like expression took over his face as he skipped over to Kyle.

"Kyle, you are back. I was worried about you. Are you alright? Nothing happened to you, right? You were late."

Theo asked these questions one after another, and only then did Ben feel his instincts calm down. Everything was alright once more.

As soon as I entered the café, I could feel the heavy alpha pheromones inside, threatening to choke me.

I tensed, waiting to see what would happen. But instead of being attacked by an unknown person, I was attacked by Theo.

He wrapped his arms around me and babbled at me.

"Kyle, you are back. I was worried about you. Are you alright? Nothing happened to you, right? You were late."

His words went through one ear and out the other as he spoke, as I was shaken around by the huge alpha.

My head felt a little light, but I was able to shake myself out of that state pretty quickly.

"I am fine. I just ran into some trouble on my way here, so I am a little late. Did anything happen while I was away?"

I asked, turning more toward Ben than Theo. After all, knowing the people around me, I could easily tell who the more responsible one was.

"No, of course not. Things were just fine. But I would appreciate more help from you. I have too many people to serve."

Ben called toward me as he went back to delivering stuff to the tables around him. I hurried inside and put a new batch of coffee to brew as I prepared things to serve.

Theo followed me inside, and I handed him a few trays that needed to go out. The chef was overworking at the moment as well, and he looked thankful to have me around.

After all, I was not as good of a cook as a chef, but I was decent. It came with my training as a hunter.

Between me, the chef, Theo, and Ben, we were able to handle most of the work. Emma was also busy at her corner, dealing with orders as she talked over the phone and sent out deliveries through external companies.

Overall, it was hard work that we got done in time.

Before we closed, the door opened and we all groaned as we got ready to serve our potentially last customer.

I looked at the man, ready to take his order, only to see Lynn’s face in front of me.

"Yo! I am not here to order anything, so you can relax. I am here to ask Kyle to be in my team for the upcoming hunter championship. I promise I would take care of you."

Lynn assured me while speaking to Emma and Ben. He seemed confident in the fact that I would accept his offer.

Unfortunately for him, it was already too late to recruit me.
