The Top Omega Hunter Wants a Quiet Life [BL]-Chapter 32: Ch : Become my Partner - Part 4
Lynn’s confident smile covered his face, and I felt a weird sense of satisfaction to make it go away with my words.
"I’m sorry, but I cannot participate in the hunter’s championship for your team."
I spoke clearly, but I did not tell Lynn the reason behind this. I wanted to see if he would take my rejection well or not.
As I expected, Lynn was not used to rejection, and his face immediately fell at my words.
"What do you mean—? Maybe you did not understand, but I am asking you to be on my team. Don’t you want to be famous? Or earn a lot of money? Now is your chance. And as the number #1 hunter, you won’t be in any danger, even if you join my team."
Lynn tried to make me change my mind.
I had to admit that he did bring up a few good points. I had checked the money that was given out to the participants and the winning team, and it was a lot. It was roughly around 1 million dollars after taxes.
Truly, it was a decent sum that would allow most people to live freely their whole life. But it was not worth the hassle for me.
"I do want money, but I can do without fame. And I don’t want to enter a dungeon—ever."
I told Lynn, but he seemed to not want to take no as an answer. So, I decided to continue.
"Besides, I already allowed another hunter to put my name in their team with the condition that I won’t show up for the actual competition. So it is useless for you to try and recruit me now."
Only once I had told Lynn this did his face change.
"Who is that bastard...I mean hunter who asked you beforehand? I was so sure I warned the whole Luminous guild not to come here and ask you..."
The last part was muttered under Lynn’s breath, but with my sharp senses, I could hear it just fine.
I noticed from the corner of my eyes that Emma seemed to be enjoying Lynn’s agitation. She was almost giggling, and her eyes sparkled when she looked at me and Lynn.
’What a hassle. I should end this conversation before it gets even weirder.’ 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Sir, if that was all you came here to ask, then I would have to ask you to leave. It is time for us to close the café now."
Lynn’s eyes flashed, and my instincts warned me about danger at the same time. Before I could dodge Lynn, he flashed me with a glare, and his thick pheromones pressed me down.
"Who is the bastard who asked you before me? If you tell me, then I can resolve this mess for you. Surely, being on my team would be much better."
The pheromones were thick, and they were trying to coerce me to agree with the alpha.
’Tsk, as if this is going to work on me.’
I did not know what kind of weak omegas Lynn had met before, but I refused to give in to his pheromones, and I held firm.
"Sorry, but you will likely know when the competition starts. I have no intention of paying any more mind to this conversation. And using your pheromones is prohibited. If you continue like this, we might need to ban you."
I told Lynn just as I felt another, fresher pheromone join the agitated alpha ones.
When I looked behind to see who it was, my face almost collided with Theo’s chest as he came to stand behind me.
"Please leave. Kyle does not want to talk to you anymore. If you have to talk to him, please inform me beforehand so that I can be present during that time...as emotional support."
Theo’s voice sounded cold when he spoke, and I could see sparks coming out of his eyes as well when he looked at Lynn.
But instead of feeling relieved, I felt a little terrified for Theo.
’What is this idiot doing, picking up a fight with an S-ranked hunter? Is he not afraid of what could happen to him? Ugh, this is such a nightmare. I better separate them quickly.’
I turned to look at Theo first, simply because I had a feeling he would be the easier of the two to deal with.
"Theo, please head inside first for dinner. I will accompany our customer to the door and join you."
Theo made an annoyed face when I addressed him, but he was not able to keep it in front of me for long. He ultimately sighed and followed my orders.
Lynn, who was watching all this, looked at me and raised his eyebrows, almost as if asking me what I wanted.
"You—! Come with me. And before you ask—no. I have no intention of participating in the hunter’s championship. Not now, and not in the future. So don’t even bother asking."
I assured Lynn, who finally understood that I was serious about it.
"Tsk! It’s a missed opportunity for you. My instincts told me that you would likely do a good job if you participated in this competition."
Lynn told me, and I immediately replied.
"If I do participate, then it would be unfair for the people who have worked for the past 10 years to be able to participate in the competition as the civilian choice. I don’t want to take advantage of my position."
I told Lynn that it was unfair, but in reality, it was unfair in a different way.
Despite me labeling myself as a civilian, I was not actually a civilian. And having too much attention on me was bound to bring this to light.
Not to mention, if someone was to recognize me somehow, it would be a disaster.
’I should get my looks changed so that I don’t get recognized in the future. Maybe a hair color change and a style change would be enough—’
"Fine. I understand that I cannot force you to participate. I should be happy with the fact that if I cannot have you as my partner, then the other teams would also not get you, even if they already submitted your name...also, call me if you need anything."
The alpha looked nervous as he spoke before he turned around and left.
’Now that I think about it, there are a lot of alphas who want me to call them if I’m in trouble. But somehow, I get the feeling that they are weaker than me. In that case, why would I ever call them?’
I decided to head back to the café. But just as I was about to open the door, I saw a shadow heading into an alley from the corner of my eyes, and my instincts yelled at me to follow that shadow to find out what was happening.
I truly did not want to get involved with anything, but I felt like I had to follow that shadow.
"Emma, I need to run an emergency errand. I will come back in an hour."
I opened the café door and yelled to Emma before leaving. I knew the others would hear the call in the dining room, so I was no longer worried about that.
