The Top Omega Hunter Wants a Quiet Life [BL]-Chapter 29: Ch : Become my Partner - Part 1
’Ugh, I am not even surprised at this point, just a little disappointed in myself at this point.’
I pushed Theo away and got up. This time, the alpha did not put up much resistance toward me and I was easily able to get my morning routine started.
There was not much crowd at the PC Café during the early hours, but the T.V. was blasting at full volume with a group of people cheering as they watched the announcement.
It grabbed my attention as well, so I looked at what they were looking at as well.
[-an opportunity of a lifetime. Support your favoured team and have a chance to win from the 1 million dollar prize pool. Make sure you tune in to the hunter’s championship-]
’A hunter’s championship-? Like, a competition between hunters who form teams? Is that really a good idea?’
This was yet another thing that was unthinkable in my time.
Not only were hunters rare, but there was no end to the dungeons that needed to be cleared. We barely had any free time on our hands.
And today, the hunters were so abundant that they even had the luxury to develop a league of their own.
"Hey, get me a glass of juice here!"
My interest was clear enough, but the shout of the customer caused my concentration to break and I went to grab the juice he ordered.
Once I returned to the counter, I felt my eyes turning toward the T.V. once more.
Emma noticed my interest as she walked over to deliver something to another customer and she decided to educate me a little about what was going on.
"Ah, are you interested in the hunter’s championship as well? Don’t bother replying. You are at an age to be interested, after all. Have you ever gone to see one?"
Emma asked and I shook my head. This was my first time having heard about such a thing.
"I see. Well, as you can tell, it’s a competition between guilds and their teams to choose who’s the best. It’s mostly for the show and nothing more. But it has a special rule— all hunter teams must have 5 members. However, not all 5 can be hunters. There has to be at least 1 civilian in the mix. Don’t you think it sounds fun?"
Emma asked and the competition suddenly did not look as fun as it did before.
"They mix a civilian in with the hunters? Isn’t it dangerous?"
I asked Emma and she shrugged.
"Well, it is to balance teams out... or so the committee says. But everyone knows it’s just a publicity stunt and gives those who have deep pockets a chance to be able to pay to be there and get famous. The committee makes sure the civilians are safe."
Emma assured me but it still felt wrong to me.
But I could understand the committee’s stand of view as well.
Even back in my days, when dungeons had been death holes, people had tried to brave them even when they were not hunters, all in search of glory and riches.
However, no one had ever successfully returned back from a dungeon run alive while being a civilian. But times had changed now and there were more ways to stay safe in a dungeon.
So maybe having civilians participate was not that bad of an idea...
’Ugh, it sounds terrible, no matter how much I think about it. Only an idiot would approve of such a thing.’
Anyway, this had nothing to do with me anymore, so I decided to stop paying attention and work on my orders.
Theo woke up about half an hour later as well and the first thing he did was walk over to me and wrap his arms around my middle.
Walking felt almost impossible once I was in his grip, so I had no choice but to ask him to let go of me.
Theo pouted and tightened his arms around me once more, but ultimately, he did let me go and I breathed a sigh of relief.
Once I was free, I went over to the coffee machine to make a fresh batch for our customers, only to discover that we had no coffee left.
"Emma, do we have a spare coffee bag in the back? We are all out here."
I asked Emma when she came around to get something from the kitchen.
"Hmm, let me check in the storage..."
Emma motioned for me to follow her and together, we researched the store as well. But there was no coffee bag in there either.
"How weird. I was so sure I ordered coffee last time. Did they never deliver it to me?"
Emma asked in an annoyed voice and I could understand why.
Coffee was one of our best sellers during morning and evening hours when the office started and ended. So running out of it was not good.
"Do you want me to go and buy some quickly for now? You can order a new batch for delivery while I do that."
I suggested and Emma suddenly looked grateful toward me.
"You would do that? Thank you-! Wait, let me tell you what brand to bring and where you will find it. Here-"
Emma gave me a note with the coffee name and brand name as well as the location of the store I could pick it up at.
The location was one of those fancy supermarkets not too far away, so I headed out.
Theo noticed me all the way across the room and walked toward me.
"Kyle, are you heading somewhere? Do you want me to come with you? It’s not safe-"
The alpha asked as he looked at me with his puppy face. I had a feeling that he would follow me all the way to the store if I did not stop him now.
"Theo, you cannot come with me. It’s a 15-minute task anyway, so I won’t need any help from you. Why don’t you go and help Ben out for now? He looks like he could use some help."
Poor Ben was a bouncer, but he was being made to serve food as well at the moment because of the lack of hands. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Theo opened his mouth to complain, but before he could voice anything, Ben noticed him.
"Theo, can you come and help me here? I need another person... shit-!"
Ben barely protected the falling plate before he looked at Theo with another begging smile.
Theo looked stuck between helping Ben out or heading out with me. So I decided to give him the push that he needed.
"You should go and help Ben out, Theo. That way, I will not have much to do when I return as well. Don’t worry. I won’t take too long to come back."
I assured and Theo finally relented. He did not look happy when he turned around and walked toward Ben to help him out.
But I used this time to head out and get the coffee.
However, I ran into the last person I expected when I was out buying the coffee. And that also happened because we both grabbed the same bag of coffee.
