The offer letter in front of me felt like a time bomb and I did not even move toward it to touch it. That was how much I wanted it gone.
"You should open it and check the terms. I am sure you would like them. And if not, you can tell me and I will change them."
Rhiner was being very kind, and anyone else in my position would have jumped to take that chance.
But how could I be happy when the only reason I was living with a new identity was to get away from the hunters and dungeon stuff.
No matter how good this offer letter was, there was only one thing I could do to it.
"I am sorry, but I am afraid I cannot take this. I would like you to take it back and give it to someone more deserving of this."
My words were firm and left no room for misinterpretation.
The alpha looked taken aback, but quickly recovered.
"I see. I had a feeling you would not accept this offer, so there is nothing I can do about it. I will keep this offer letter for now. If you change your mind, do let me know."
The alpha assured me and I nodded.
I had no intention of getting back to him regarding this, so it did not matter to me what he did with this offer letter.
The desserts finally came and I finished my part quickly. The alpha accompanied me back to the store and I got out of his car before he could open the door for me.
"Thank you for the dinner. I wish you the best for the future."
I told the alpha, and Rhiner followed me to the PC Cafe door with a complicated look on his face. Before I could go inside, he stopped me for the last time.
His eyes told me that he was fighting with himself about something, but he ultimately decided to give me a soft look and speak up.
"Kyle, give me your phone. I will give you my number so that you can call me if you need me."
The alpha demanded, and I handed my phone over. After all, this was a better compromise than him keeping an eye on me all the time.
It took a few seconds for Rhiner to type his number on my phone, but he kept holding on to it for a little longer than necessary.
Once he was done, he handed it back to me and I decided to pocket my phone.
I opened the door to the PC Cafe, but Rhiner did not leave. My instincts told me to speak up. But I ignored them and went inside to drink water.
When I came back, Rhiner was still standing in front of the cafe door, looking inside, but he could not see because I was standing behind a one-way glass.
Finally, after about 5 minutes of waiting, he decided to leave and I felt my body relax.
Today had truly been an exhausting day for me.
I headed back to my room once I was done, and the dark room greeted me back. But my instincts told me that I was not safe.
’There is something in there... something dangerous. I need to be alert and—’
I struck first with one hand as I grabbed my phone’s flashlight and operated it with another hand.
My hand struck something solid and a voice let out a painful grunt before I felt a weight pushing me back down. It caused me to drop my phone, and the light from my phone shined on the body looming on top of me.
The lighting made the features of the alpha shine brighter and my heart thundered inside my chest almost painfully as Theo’s face came into focus.
"T-Theo-! You scared me. Thank god it’s just you."
Once I realized that the one who had tackled me was Theo, I forced my body to relax. But for some reason, my instincts refused to slow down.
They were as alert as the time I faced the boss of the S-ranked dungeon. My powers continued to hum under my skin, ready to come out and defend me at any second.
’What am I doing? I need to calm down before I hurt Theo in some way. Before that, I need Theo to let me go.’
"Theo-? Are you alright-! Can you let me up now? Theo!"
I called out, but the alpha did not respond. His dark eyes continued to look at me with a dangerous expression and his face looked impassive.
But those things were nothing compared to his pheromones that were pushing me down and trying to seep into every fiber of my body.
’What the heck is this idiot doing? Is he trying to force me to go into heat? Ugh, I need to get my dose of suppressants soon.’
I needed to push the alpha away and knock some sense into him. Whatever had gotten into Theo was dangerous.
"Ugh, you asked for this, Theo. This is your own fault."
I warned before I yanked his head back using my hunter strength. Theo was knocked back, and I used my powers to course electricity through my hand and shock Theo.
However, as soon as my powers touched Theo, something weird happened—the fizzled out and nothing happened.
’What the—! This has never happened before. Could it be—? Is Theo a hunter as well, but he does not remember being one?’
I questioned, but Theo gave me no chance to think as he rushed toward me once more to grab me.
Thankfully, I was flexible and swift enough to get out of his hold and not be caught. But I did need to end this small cat-and-mouse chase.
’Is there truly no other way for me to take care of this situation other than to use my pheromones? Since my powers don’t work, I need to stun Theo enough to knock him out.’
There truly seemed to be no other way, so I waited for Theo to come close before I let out my pheromones. The alpha staggered for a second and his eyes widened as he looked my way.
He reached out to grab me, but he was slower this time and looked almost sleepy due to my pheromones.
"Go to sleep, Theo. I am sure you would feel so much better in the morning."
I assured as I watched Theo struggling to stay awake. But ultimately, he was not able to keep himself awake.
He collapsed near me, and I hurried to catch him and put him to bed.
"Shit-! I want to be so angry with you, Theo. But I have no energy to do that. Ugh, I will think more about this tomorrow. For now, I just need to rest."
I closed my eyes as I laid down beside Theo. My intention was to get up in five minutes and get Theo back to his own room.
But before I even realized, I had fallen asleep with Theo in my bed. So it was no wonder when I woke up next morning, I had the bulky alpha wrapped all around me.
