Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Want to Crash Into the Wall Just Once

"He’s graduated and is going to work in Arkenfall. He’ll settle there as well; he hopes I can go with him."

Diana Curtis lowered her head as she spoke, her tone subdued, while she bit her lip tightly.

She had thought about it for a long time before reaching a conclusion, and now she had made up her mind.

Because she was part of The Pantheon, whether she stayed in Bexley or moved to Arkenfall, it required Holly’s approval. Without Holly’s consent, she couldn’t leave.

"So when will you follow him?"

Holly Sawyer smirked, a hint of mockery playing on her lips as an indeterminate gleam flickered in her eyes.

Diana had someone she liked very, very much, someone two years her senior whom she had constantly pursued.

He excelled in his studies and attended Veridian. Although Diana didn’t enjoy studying and had poor grades, she worked hard to attend the same school, eventually getting into Veridian.

He neither rejected nor accepted Diana, seemingly always giving her a chance, yet it felt as if no chance was actually given.

In what capacity?

Diana was suddenly stunned; she looked at Holly. "Maybe..."

She hesitated for a long time but couldn’t articulate a clear reason.

He hadn’t stated it; he only expressed a desire for her to go with him.

"He hasn’t told you he loves you, nor asked you to be his girlfriend. Why would you follow him?"

Bella Coleman poked Diana and mumbled.

She’d spoken to Diana numerous times, but Diana hadn’t listened at all.

Bella had known Diana for a long time, being three years older and having watched as Diana relentlessly chased after him.

There’s a saying that goes: ’Thinking about it persistently, there must be an echo in response.’

Yet Diana received no reply, only receiving a glance when he needed something from her.

"But he asked me to go with him."

Diana lifted her gaze, her eyes steadfast.

She had loved Jasper Hayes for five years, falling for the boy speaking confidently in front of the podium during her freshman year.

The boy’s smile was so healing that she couldn’t forget it.

From freshman year to sophomore, her gaze constantly followed Jasper Hayes.

She firmly believed that after following Jasper for so long, he would one day turn around and notice her.

One day, Jasper came to her, mentioning he was going to intern in Arkenfall and would likely settle there eventually. He wanted to invite her to join him.

She struggled for a long time; going to Arkenfall meant abandoning her studies and relinquishing many things in Bexley. She struggled a lot but ultimately compromised.

Jasper was her light, and she didn’t want to miss this chance.

"If he cared for you or valued you, he wouldn’t let you abandon your studies just to follow him to Arkenfall. Diana, you’re a sensible person; your education is more important than romance."

Holly raised her eyes to look at Diana, her voice somewhat cold, speaking each word with emphasis.

Love isn’t bread; it can’t solve hunger problems. Only money is bread, able to address such needs.

A good education isn’t just important; it often correlates directly with financial status.

Diana remained silent for a moment. "I want to be willful just this once."

She took a deep breath, looking up at Holly, her nails digging sharply into her skin, causing pain.

The outcome seemed foreseeable; she simply wanted to take the plunge—a reckless headlong dive. Let herself bleed thoroughly, and only then could she persuade herself to let go.

"Love can’t address hunger; without it, there’s nothing left. Education determines your academic qualifications, which can ensure you’re well-fed and clothed."

Holly’s voice was soft, gentle, but carried a shocking intensity as she slowly spoke.

Passionate affection is both fortunate and unfortunate. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

Diana lowered her head, saying nothing as Bella poked her.

"Loving the right person is romance; loving the wrong one is just fleeting youth."

Holly stood up. She leaned against the chair and began speaking softly, yet her voice carried a compelling weight.

"I understand."

Diana tightly clenched her hands.

She understood; she knew everything, yet she just couldn’t control herself.

She wouldn’t turn back until she hit a dead-end; perhaps she was just that kind of person, determined to crash into a wall, even if it meant breaking herself.

"I’ll help you take leave from school. I’ll give you a month to decide what you want, whether it hurts or not. You have to experience it for yourself."

Holly offered Diana an indifferent glance and spoke calmly, her tone quite neutral.

Some things only become clear after personal experience; the pain, whether to let go or not, must be lived through to truly comprehend.

Diana had a stubborn personality, one that wouldn’t turn back until she hit a wall and would have to experience things firsthand.

"Thank you, boss."

Shooting a grateful look at Holly, Diana’s eyes flashed with light as she tightly clenched her fists.

A month should be enough, right?

She thought about how willful she was, intending to use this month to gain clarity.

Bella furrowed her brows tightly, her gaze towards Holly filled with complexity.

She didn’t know what to say.

"Then, boss, I’ll go pack now. I’ll leave the day after tomorrow."

Hurriedly glancing at her phone, Diana bid farewell to Holly and departed first.

"Goodbye, Becky."

After taking a few steps, Diana turned to look at Bella, a smile playing on her lips.

Choosing love over friendship, she felt sorry toward Bella for having let her down.

Having known Bella for a long time, the disputes between her and Bella over Jasper were numerous.

"Good luck."

Bella smiled slightly as she spoke, naturally wishing her friend would find happiness.

But...

Diana left.

Bella dropped into Diana’s former seat, looking at Holly. "Boss, she’ll get hurt."

She worried for Diana, someone so stubborn.

"I know."

Holly nodded, her demeanor particularly calm.

"Then you..."

Bella stared at Holly with bewilderment filling her eyes.

Knowing the possible outcome, why did Holly allow Diana to leave?

Did she just watch Diana crash headlong into a wall?

"Whether she feels hurt is for her to realize. Our words don’t matter. Love is something outsiders see clearly, while those involved are blind. She doesn’t see it, maybe she doesn’t want to."

Holly spoke slowly, her tone exceptionally gentle.

In certain matters, what others say is redundant. Only personal experience evokes true understanding, pain leading to revelation on whether to let go.

Though Holly hadn’t experienced it personally, she had observed enough to understand much.

Bella remained silent, lightly biting her lip.

"It’s getting late; I should go."

Holly glanced at the time and spoke.

She had been out for more than an hour, needing to return early. Leo Grant likely was not asleep at this hour, and she worried he would come to her room to check if she had gone to bed after handling his documents.
