Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Meeting Ryan Dunn

So the photo was deleted by Holly Sawyer?

Sean Grant looked at Holly, "I have a backup."

He always had a habit of storing two copies of everything on his phone to ensure against unnecessary loss.

"Oh."

Holly’s attitude was surprisingly calm; she yawned and said.

Sean went to look through the backup photos and found there was nothing, absolutely nothing.

"So, who exactly are you?"

Sean took a deep breath. He stared at Holly, knowing that her identity was not simple. If she stayed by Leo Grant’s side, many of his plans would be difficult to implement.

Holly said, "A good person."

The dessert Holly ordered was quickly brought over by Bella Coleman herself. She looked at Sean, who was sitting across Holly, and blinked.

Tsk, could this handsome guy really have something going on with Holly? But he does look a little familiar.

"Everything’s served, enjoy it, they’ll melt if left too long."

After Bella said this, she left.

Holly nodded slightly at Bella, implying that Ryan Dunn had arrived.

"Aren’t you leaving yet?"

Holly picked up a spoon to start eating. She raised an eyebrow and asked Sean.

Tsk, does he plan to follow her around forever?

"Since I’m here, I might as well eat. I’ll go order some dessert."

Sean had no intention of leaving so quickly. He got up to order dessert, planning to eat while keeping an eye on Holly.

He wanted to know whether Holly was there just to enjoy dessert, or if there was another agenda.

Sean went downstairs, and a crew-cut man walked upstairs. The man’s gait was a bit cocky, so Sean glanced at him.

"Let’s go to the private room."

Holly saw Ryan and signaled for him to follow her.

The two of them walked into a private room. The dessert shop’s private room wasn’t open to the public, so no one knew there were private rooms inside.

The door to the private room was a hidden door, blending seamlessly with the wall, making it almost undetectable.

Ryan followed her, bringing along Holly’s dessert. Unable to carry everything with two hands, he took the white peach oolong flavored item.

"Boss, here’s what you wanted."

Ryan handed a small packet to Holly, speaking slowly.

His previously cocky demeanor vanished at the sight of Holly, restoring his composure.

As a joke, he couldn’t act nonchalant in front of Holly, or he might get reprimanded. He had experienced Holly’s prowess before.

Holly’s expression was particularly indifferent: "Mm-hm."

She focused on scooping ice cream, seemingly only having eyes for the treat in front of her.

"Boss, about that..."

"Don’t talk now, my ice cream’s going to melt."

Ryan was about to say something but was interrupted by Holly.

Ryan: "..."

He looked at Holly, then back at the ice cream in the cup before her, falling into deep thought.

Alright, ice cream takes priority over everything. He suddenly felt that life was not worthwhile.

He suddenly started to question if Holly was really Holly. He had always known she was interested in food, but he had never seen her so devoted.

Now he had seen it firsthand; in the presence of ice cream and himself as a living person, Holly chose to ignore him, with her focus entirely on the dessert.

After a while, Holly finished her ice cream, wiped her mouth with a napkin, then looked up at Ryan, "What were you going to say?"

Ryan: "..."

Alright, I’ve got no value compared to food.

"Boss, am I really less important to you than ice cream? Is ice cream more important than me?"

Ryan feigned a heartbroken demeanor and asked, looking immensely sad at Holly.

"You just realized this now?"

Holly stared at Ryan for quite a while, blinking before speaking.

In the face of food, nothing else mattered.

The world is vast, but food is more important.

Ryan clutched his heart feigning injury, looking painfully at Holly, "Boss, you’re breaking my heart."

"Speak properly."

Holly tapped the table and said, finding his act utterly insincere and inappropriate.

However, Holly ignored her usual conduct and tone, which was quite...cough cough.

"Boss, what do you need this drug powder for? There’s nothing much to it; it just makes the coma last a bit longer."

Ryan got serious quickly, asking earnestly.

He’d always been into researching drugs, capable of concocting almost any kind needed. He just didn’t know why Holly chose this one, as it lacked any offensive capabilities.

Holly said, "Nothing special."

She obviously had her own use for it, but she didn’t plan to share.

"Boss, what are you planning to do next? When are you returning to Arkenfall?"

Ryan had come from Arkenfall. Holly had hardly ever left Arkenfall for so long before.

"To protect Leo Grant. He’ll return to Arkenfall soon; I’ll accompany him then."

Holly spoke with particular calmness, rhythmically tapping her fingers on the table.

"Boss..."

Ryan looked at Holly, hesitant to speak.

Really, it’s quite hard to say.

Everyone in The Pantheon knew Holly stayed by Leo Grant’s side to repay a debt, but they all felt she had repaid whatever it was many times over.

Nonetheless, they dared not say anything because it was Holly’s business, and they had no place to question it.

——

After ordering dessert, Sean found Holly was missing. There were still two servings of dessert where she had been sitting.

Went to the bathroom?

Sean frowned, glanced around, and checked the bathroom, finding no one there.

There was only one bathroom on the second floor of the dessert shop. The open door meant Holly wasn’t there, possibly having slipped away.

"Does your dessert shop have any secret passages?"

Bella Coleman brought Sean’s dessert over, and Sean asked. He had been sitting there a while, and Holly hadn’t appeared.

She can’t have just disappeared; she didn’t go downstairs, so how could she vanish?

"Mister, what are you talking about? How could a little dessert shop have secret passages? Do you think it’s a Communist Party gathering place during the revolution?"

Bella rolled her eyes at Sean, responding in exasperation. But in her heart, she thought Sean was quite clever. The private rooms were technically like secret passages, given their secrecy and that no one knew about them.

"How did the young lady just disappear?"

Sean frowned, pointing to the seat across from him.

"Isn’t she your friend? You’re asking me now? Are you trying to be funny?"

Bella rolled her eyes at Sean again, then walked away in her high heels.
