The Smiling Death-Chapter 387: The Monster That Couldn’t Be Stopped
He dropped to the ground and sat down heavily, breathing hard.
"Haa… haa… haa…"
His whole body hurt. His head was throbbing from overusing Death's darkness and shadow abilities. His arms felt numb from the constant fighting.
He wiped the black blood from his face with the back of his hand and looked around.
The battlefield was still chaotic, but compared to before, the number of monsters had decreased a lot.
On the other side, his group members were still fighting the remaining monsters.
Some were injured. Some were exhausted. But they were still fighting. No one was killed. That was surprising.
Amon then saw Ethan sitting near a broken tree some distance away. He was breathing heavily and holding his arm, which looked injured.
Amon slowly stood up and started walking toward him.
"You still alive?" Amon asked as he walked closer.
Ethan let out a tired laugh. "Barely… That thing almost killed me earlier."
Amon sat down near the tree for a moment. "Thanks for that earth wall earlier. I would have been smashed into the ground."
Ethan nodded. "You owe me one."
Amon smirked slightly. "Yeah, yeah."
Both of them were exhausted. Their breathing was heavy, and their bodies were covered in dirt, blood, and scratches.
Around them, other members were also getting tired. The monsters were fewer now, but everyone had been fighting for a long time.
But the real battle was still ongoing.
In the distance, lightning flashed again and again. Booms and explosions echoed through the forest.
Malphas and Scarlett were still fighting the two Rank Five monsters. While Mark..Ethan's father was backing Scarlett.
That battle was on a completely different level.
Amon slowly stood up again. "I'm going to help clear the remaining monsters," he said.
Ethan nodded tiredly. "I'll support from here with earth spells for a while. I am tired..."
"Okay. Rest for a while before joining the battle again."
The area where they were currently had no monsters because a strong monster like the wyvern had come there earlier. But slowly, monsters were approaching Amon and Ethan again.
Because of the sudden appearance of those two monsters, everyone had run away in a rush. So they were scattered and not fighting in a proper pattern. But still, it was not a big deal since the monsters were fewer now.
The people had slowly gathered near each other as they fought.
So now the group was fighting while staying close to each other, protecting each other's backs whenever needed. Only Amon and Ethan were slightly away from them.
The tower was more than 300 meters away from them. They had really run far away from that place. Yet they could still hear and feel that chaotic ongoing clash.
'Alright. Let's go.'
But just as Amon took a few steps forward, something suddenly shot through the air at incredible speed.

It flew past above them and slammed into an already broken tree.

The tree shattered completely on impact. Amon and Ethan immediately turned their heads toward it.
Dust slowly settled.
Then they saw a figure lying among the broken wood and debris.
Amon's eyes widened.
"That's—"
It was Malphas.
His body was injured. His clothes were torn. There were bruises on his face and body. Blood was coming from the corner of his mouth.
The demon was in bad condition. But even then, he slowly pushed himself up from the ground.
His eyes were still sharp. Still calm and dangerous.
If even Malphas was thrown like that, then those two Rank Five monsters were far more terrifying than they had imagined.
A man with black hair ran towards Malphas. "Sir Malphas, wait for me!"
Amon also moved in that direction. Ethan followed behind worriedly.
"I am okay... just a few wounds." The black-haired man named Kevin supported Malphas to get up.
Soon a green light started to come out from Kevin. It was an advanced-level spell, so there was no magic circle.
It slowly but surely healed Malphas's wounds.
"Are you okay?" Amon, who came towards him, asked.
Ethan stood behind. His beast wolf-like ears twitched.
"I am okay, boy..." he said. But his voice was grave.
He was looking past Amon.
So Amon also turned and looked toward the monster.
The demon skull-faced monster was still near the tower. The sound of its clash with Scarlett and Mark could be heard.
'Hope she's okay...' Amon felt worried for Scarlett.
But then his eyes focused on the more dangerous thing. The huge monster who was fighting against Malphas was walking in their direction in slow steps.

But there was something odd about the monster. Its eyes were glowing from time to time in a yellow shade. Even its body was releasing small shockwaves.
"What's happening?" Amon asked. His expression turned pale, feeling as if something was totally wrong here.
His instincts were screaming at him.
"He looks... weird... something is happening to him," Ethan said while looking at the monster.
"What might it be, Sir Malphas?" Even Kevin asked.
A few other group members also came closer to them.
"What's going on?"
"That thing is coming here..."
"Even Sir Malphas was not able to handle it."
"Everyone, silence. Calm down first," Amon said in a loud voice.
As the people quieted down, the tension in the air became even heavier. Fear was clearly visible on their faces, but they still forced themselves to stay calm.
It wasn't their fault. Anyone would be afraid after seeing a monster like that and knowing that even their strongest person couldn't defeat it.
All eyes turned toward Malphas, waiting for an answer.
Malphas kept staring at the approaching monster for a few seconds, his expression dark and serious.
Then he finally spoke.
"That thing... it is evolving... it's entering a new rank."
That word alone made everyone silent.
The monster was already peak rank five. Now it was becoming a rank six monster. Which was the worst possible outcome for them.

The monster with slow step got more near.
The other group memeber who were still fighting also gaze up at it. Fear was crawling over everyone.
Amon also looked at the ugly abomination. He gulped down his saliva.
